  1. For the integrity of the competition I imagine it will have to be used after using it so far and it playing a part in the outcome of matches. I would think (from seeing inside Stockley Park on tv) that a safe distance can be made between the operators.
  2. Excellent news about your recovery Paul. You'll be back suffering with the rest of us at Ewood at some stage in the future ??. Stay safe and follow the advice mate.
  3. Rovers players, staff and management agree to wage deferrals. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/april/club-statement/
  4. He only mentions integrity in the context of finishing the competitions rather than any other solutions that are being banded about. Do you not agree with that?
  5. The QPR Chief Exec, Lee Hoos makes some really good points about the current (and beyond) issues football is facing. He also mentions that season ticket holders may have to be reimbursed. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11711/11980286/coronavirus-qpr-chief-executive-lee-hoos-fears-clubs-are-being-pushed-to-the-brink
  6. That's my recollection of him too Andy. I always thought he was decent but that was it. I understand though he was an excellent anchor man for televised football in Spain which was some achievement given that Spanish wasn't his first language.
  7. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/breaking-ligue-1-season-cancelled-21940250 Another top European league calls it a day for this season.
  8. No disrespect as I know you replied to my post but I lost interest after reading your first paragraph.
  9. Pretty much my thoughts. Rovers could score massively from a supporter relationship perspective by offering some incentive to current season ticket holders by some gesture of goodwill. Waggott has spoken previously about valuing customers - now is the time to be innovative.
  10. I'm chuffed about that Andy but you could have answered my conundrum. They just weren't happy with an Englishman who had the same surname as something as iconic in Wales. ???
  11. I refereed at Rhyl when they were in the Northern Premier League and, as you say Parson they were a welcoming and very hospitable club. As I remember though there fans were vociferous and not shy in telling me when they thought I'd got one wrong ☺️.
  12. Thanks. Rhyl could be the first of many. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52376408
  13. I didn't. Can you give me the gist of what he said please?
  14. You have raised probably the most important point in this crisis when you mention season tickets. For most clubs outside the PL (where TV money dwarfs all other income) the summer is vital as it's when the bulk of their cash comes in. Given the uncertainty at the moment (and for some time yet I think) I doubt clubs have been able to give season tickets much thought. The worst case would be no spectators until next year and that would mean half season tickets being available but the other side of the coin is that many clubs just won't survive that long with no money coming in. There is no easy way out of this for many. As you rightly say football is at the crossroads and sadly many clubs will go the way of Bury. For many of the ones that survive will be run on a shoestring. I fear that we will fall into that category.
  15. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52381612 The clubs in the National Leagues have been decisive and ended their competitions immediately although there needs to be further discussion on promotion and relegation. I wonder what BT Sports have done as they have the tv rights to the National League including playoffs. The comments from the Barrow director are interesting considering the selfish comments we have seen from some of the big hitters.
  16. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11976052/charlton-athletic-takeover-by-east-street-investments-under-investigation-by-efl It seems that Charlton are in bother again but equally the EFL and it's 'fit and proper' test should be investigated thoroughly. Taken from the article is this: But majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer has still yet to satisfy EFL requests for proof and source of funding. He is now being investigated, along with former executive chairman Matt Southall and Jonathan Heller, who were both removed from the Charlton board last month after a bitter civil war for control of the Championship club.
  17. I have just watched The Unforgotten again and enjoyed it as much second time around. It's essentially about a cold case team and there are three series and the cherry on the cake is it's British. The excellent Nicola Walker takes the lead role but each series has many top drawer actors and actresses.I If a whodunnit is your thing then I recommend this.
  18. When I watch football I want there to be some atmosphere and background noise. The notion of hearing players voices echoing around an empty stadium just doesn't appeal to me at all. I recently spoke to a couple of ex professionals who said the lack of motivation that empty stadiums would engender would effect the intensity and overall quality of the football. I completely agree with him too having refereed games behind closed doors.
  19. You are making the mistake of thinking everybody is interested in the sports you mention. I pay for Sky essentially for football and rugby league. I have never watched golf, F1 or basketball and have no desire to do so. And I will not be watching televised football in empty stadiums.
  20. With regard to Sky I believe they will lose their stranglehold over football due to the many cancelled subscriptions they will get in the near future. One of their main sources of income is from overseas broadcasting with pubs and clubs also contributing a large amount. With pubs being closed and many unlikely to open Sky are desperately worried. I have spoken to friends and family and they have all said they will cancel their subscriptions rather than watch live football in empty stadiums. The Sky deal lasts until the end of next season and contractually I don't know if they can wriggle out of it or at the very least dilute it. The landscape of football is about I believe to change and hopefully for the better. Perhaps the real issues like silly kick off times and expecting fans to travel inordinate distances unnecessarily in midweek will be reviewed if the Sky bubble bursts.
  21. What about going in and coming out of the ground, travelling, queuing to buy tickets etc, emergency evacuation and other things. I just don't believe it's practical to safely open any sports ground or any mass gatherings whilst there is a threat of this horrible virus is still around.
  22. Social distancing is here for a good while yet and the examples you give are far more important than football where it's virtually impossible to stay a safe distance. I will go when it's deemed safe and I feel confident enough to.
  23. That would be a worry but I really don't think there will be the same money swishing about in the game. I honestly think the wider fear is that football's Golden Goose (Sky) isn't going to come out of this too well and the knock on effect will have huge ramifications for professional football.
  24. That's a poor example - it's completely unnecessary risk. You passing on a virus will certainly lower other people's standard of living for sure.
  25. Quite a few on here have been saying that football as we have known it in 'modern' times will never be the same again. The ridiculous wages, Sky's total command of the game, agents and a plethora of other things will be streamlined and hopefully the game is given back to the fans in respect of a sensible pricing structure across anything football related and maybe board representation. The great shame is that it will take this horrible virus to give the powers that be the kick up the backside they desperately needed.
