  1. Rest in Peace Gordon. I didn't need to see that save from Pele in HD, super slow motion or even in colour to know I had witnessed something that would go down in history. He was like a contortionist saving that but he made hundreds of other top class saves too. I saw him speak at a dinner a few years ago and the thing that struck me was his humility.
  2. No my friend. Your legacy to BRFCS will be the Assombalobga story. ????
  3. So it's a halved shirt with Assombalonga modelling it. ??
  4. Our current form is all over the place. Out of the last ten we have won four, drawn one, lost five. conceded sixteen and scored fifteen. The four wins were back to back and the draw was the first of that sequence. Given them stats it's really difficult to predict a result for tomorrow. The priority should be a clean sheet and build from there.
  5. He is employed to make saves. For two years now he has been first choice and without checking must be close to 100 games. It was said that Friedel was worth twelve points a season to us and we need that from a keeper. His shot stopping and reflexes are up there with the best but his weaknesses haven't been improved upon since his debut. That said I don't for one minute believe Mowbray will drop him and let Leurtwiler have a run of games.
  6. In fairness that should apply to any players we bring in. It's pointless signing anybody if they aren't better than what we have.
  7. Both Farke and Webber were appointed at Norwich after Mowbray joined Rovers. There has been ample time for Mowbray to set up a European scouting network but the truth is he has preferred shopping at home and often with players he knows. If he is now acknowledging the need to up his game fine but if we are to bring in summer recruits from abroad something needs to happen quickly.
  8. After seeing them at Ewood before Christmas I thought it might have been a one off but watching today Norwich have confirmed they are the mardest team I have seen for a while. Slab head Hanley must have to train alone.
  9. Lambert really lost it there. I thought he was going to smack the Norwich coach when they were in the tunnel.
  10. To be fair though if we had bought Brereton in the January window he would have cost £12m. There are some canny operators at Ewood ?.
  11. I said that Den. They really set the kit off and the beauty of the whole kit is its simplicity. I remember getting the full kit from Johnny Forbes and I felt a million dollars. RIP Fred - one of our own.
  12. For some context we have probably spent a big chunk of next three seasons gate receipts on 'a project' assuming we are paying £2m per season for him. And who is answerable for that?
  13. It's one of his inherent weaknesses. His decision making on balls into the box is poor and has been since he broke into the team. I'm not sure how that can be coached out of him, it's more instinctive to me. He has some terrific assets but once his failings start to cost goals regularly then he simply has to be dropped. I guess the big question is does Mowbray trust Leutwiler enough.
  14. In comparison to the last home game it was like chalk and cheese. Where was the intensity, pace and commitment that we saw against Hull. We were devoid of energy today which puzzled me as I expected a reaction to last weeks hammering. Mowbrays only tactic today seemed to be a long diagonal to Graham who put himself up against the tiny Dasilva to head the ball back across. But Graham was so out of touch he didn't win many headers cleanly and our game plan floundered. Mowbray did his usual chess piece substitution and moved several players around when like for like would have done. However I don't think they were the reasons we lost. The goal we conceded was pitiful and once again our keeper was at fault. How a ball can travel at that height with no great pace along our six yard box with Raya rooted to his line is incomprehensible. Quite simply he needs dropping. I thought I had heard it all in football until I saw Brereton described as a project signing. It sounds like an ase covering description.
  15. I was thinking similar thoughts Andy when I posted it. Kean έξω. είναι ένα άχρηστο κέλυφος.
  16. Look who's back ?. It looks like his agent has blagged him another gig. He wants to move into a different direction to coaching. He has finally realised he is useless at it. And that inane grin. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/former-blackburn-boss-steve-kean-13973681
  17. I don't think there is any club in the upper echelons of English football who rely on income through the gates to finance new signings where a fee is involved. They rely more on TV money, commercial income, sponsorships and owner benevolence. The vast majority of posts I read are about trying to put bums on seats which invariably would lead to increases in match day income. Mowbray had money to spend in January and had money left over from August. He chose not to bring new players in because they didn't represent value for money, something which I agree with him about.
  18. Sheffield United doing a Rovers by throwing away a seemingly unassailable lead. The game was littered with individual errors which made for good viewing.
  19. The talk is about John Pittard who is Rovers most ardent supporter. And to support that statement I can tell you that he hasn't missed a game since 1973. That includes friendlies and testimonials.. Personally I think the club should recognise incredible loyalty like that.
  20. Or as Mowbray himself said he is going to have to use one of the youngsters like Magliore.
  21. I really get confused by statistics particularly how they are compiled. For example how are possession stats decided? Is it the actual length of time a team has the ball? If so then does a one touch pass count the same as a dribble or what about when the keeper has the ball for the maximum six seconds for several times a game. Is that possession? And ultimately they mean nothing. I'm really sceptical when I see them and hear managers using them to justify something or other (usually a loss). I remember well the Kean 'entries into the opposition penalty area' after a poor performance and drubbing at Villa. The only stats that matters in a game is the goals scored and conceded.
  22. Has he donated his coaching manual to them? ??
  23. Dack was on the same train as us coming back on Saturday. I spoke to him about his injury which he said was an 'impact injury' and he should be fine for the Bristol game. At Piccadilly he was moving a lot more freely than he was after the knock was picked up.
  24. I have friends in Middlesbrough and there is lots of disenchantment towards Pulis and his methods. If they go on a run between now and the game they will have a decent following but poor results could result in around 1500 travelling especially when you factor in TV. And you could apply the same rationale to the floating Rovers fans but the one thing which may well persuade these to come is a decent ticket price.
  25. Or sometimes in Nixon's case the story you don't have.
