  1. I find it inconceivable that Mowbray would even consider sending Travis out on loan. He has proved himself to be up to the standard required and if he goes out I think that may be the last we see of him as his disenchantment may see him push for a permanent move away. He is as good if not better than what we have in central midfield but can also cover at right back better than Bennett.
  2. As long as he's been gone too long. ?
  3. Very subtle my friend ?
  4. I think a winning run breeds confidence and is a good habit to be in. You are right that it will end sometime but I'd rather play a team on a bad run than a good one (although Rovers are notorious for ending teams losing runs?).
  5. Lewis Travis is like a new signing in my book after not really been given a chance this season. Over the last three games he has been our outstanding player and offers versatility too. Hopefully Mowbray picks the team on merit and Travis maintains his good form. I believe it will be detrimental to the team if Mowbray returns to type when Smallwood is available.
  6. I know of long standing season ticket holders who miss night games because they work until 5.30 or 6 and the mad rush to get home, eat and get ready is just too much hassle. The cost to them is immaterial. I also know some who have childminding issues. I just don't get why anybody thinks they have the right to criticise non attendance when the accuser simply doesn't know anybody's personal circumstances.
  7. Not quite as bad Leonard. The Millwall one is Chas and Daveesque but it grows on you. They play the chorus after goals and the word Den becomes Deeeeeeeeeeen. If you ever come across Harry the Dog tell him you like it. ?
  8. This coming weekend Rovers are literally going into the Lions Den as we take on Millwall. I believe that pound for pound the New Den is the most hostile ground in the country which can be daunting for officials, players and visiting supporters. Millwall were formed in 1885 and contrary to rumour not by London Dockers but the workers of J. T. Morton's canning and preserve factory in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in London's East End. Strangely enough their original name was Millwall Rovers. They moved to the Den (the Cold Blow Lane one) in 1910 where they stayed until 1993 when they moved to the New Den and have been there ever since. It has often been said that Millwall is one of the most difficult clubs to play for as their predominantly working class fan base won't accept fancy dans and shirkers as epitomised by club legends such as Barry Kitchener,Terry Hurlock, Harry Cripps and current manager Neil Harris who was nicknamed Chopper after the Chelsea legend Ron. Neil Harris sums up really what Millwall are about. As a player he was totally committed and always gave his all. He could play hard if he had to and leave a foot in. His management style replicates this as he can be aggressive in the technical area. I actually refereed at the New Den several times and found the staff behind the scenes to be friendly and hospitable which completely belied the image generally portrayed by the media. Crossing the white line though was like going into a different world as the hostility was prevalent whenever as decision went against them. Fortunately every game I refereed there was a home win so I escaped relatively unscathed. Rovers record against Millwall is quite good with 20 wins, 11 losses and 10 defeats in all competitions. Saturday will be difficult to predict so I'm sitting on the fence and going for a draw. As it's live on Sky there is an opportunity for everyone to see it but to the fellow Rovers travelling down have a safe journey and hopefully a celebratory trip back. Although I don't want them to score any goals if they do listen for the song below which I believe is the best football club song ever. It kind of sums up what Millwall is all about. Let 'em all come down the the Den indeed!
  9. My point was (using Dack as the example) successful players at a club like ours usually aren't here for three windows and then the cycle has to start again. I think it's folly to put any timescales on anything in football given that amount of variables. It brings an unnecessary pressure on the manager.
  10. I heard something similar but with the caveat being we had to be in the top ten.
  11. It's a crazy strategy though and one set up to fail. Our best signing by a country mile is now being courted by several PL clubs and could well be sold in his third window with us, severely weakening us not strengthening us. Conversely I can't see Brereton being anywhere near ready for the first team in three windows. I just ca't understand how time limits can be set particularly when spending good money on unproven young players.
  12. Whilst he has many positive attributes there are two which I think really improve us and get us on the front foot. One is that almost instinctively his first touch and movement are forwards which is something that Evans and Smallwood don't do. A couple of times he has looked naive and lost possession but part of his learning will be when to do it but it's quite a novelty to have a central midfielder who does it. He also plays the ball in between the centre half and full back for our wide players to run on to. I think it's a killer ball and young Travis spots the runs early.
  13. I think that might be true for the TV audience but there has been lots of inconvenience for the fans who watch the games live. Early and late kick off times are one of the bane of the travelling supporters life. A few years ago I'm sure the FA said they were going back to the old traditions which people of a certain generation would remember well. The draw for each round would be 12.30 on the Monday after the previous round they said, the majority of games would be played at 3.00 on Saturdays they said, replays would be the following week they said and there were other things. Now the FA Cup has been devalued by the suits at the FA who have really sold its soul for commercial gain. Still they had to pay for Wembley somehow. Custodians of the game my arse.
  14. Decent performance and good result. We dominated the ball for long spells which is something we haven't done too much in the Championship. I fancied a draw before the game and to get them back to Ewood should boost the coffers IF Rovers are sensible about pricing. The should reciprocate on the Newcastle prices at £10 and £5 but I have a feeling they won't. I also think they might close the Riverside and pack the Blackburn End and Jack Walker. I think it's fair to say that most will be disappointed if that happens.
  15. Over the course of Mowbrays tenure we haven't really had a problem scoring goal albeit in the main from three players. The real weakness is the concession of goals irrespective of the times we concede (although that is a problem within itself). So for me we need an experienced centre half who commands respect and can do the ugly stuff. I know there are difficulties in bringing in such a player in a notoriously tough window but that is where I believe the focus should be. I genuinely would be comfortable if this was the only area in which we strengthened, the other business of different positions can be addressed in the summer.
  16. I suspect they may be looking to shift him somewhere on a permanent deal and possibly have an offer in already. Either way I can't for the life in me see him anywhere near the first team squad.
  17. I would expect our two Geordie strikers to be desperate to play in this game. I think it's a free hit for us and hopefully Mowbray sets us up to go for a win. However I fancy a draw.
  18. Harsh. The way we play is largely based around Grahams hold up play and bringing other players into the game. You make it sound like he earns a dozen free kicks a game. Today he won a couple of free kicks late on which relieved the pressure and killed West Broms momentum. That is a key role within the team. And he scores, defends and leads from the front. I honestly find it strange that somebody of your age who has watched football for a long time can't see the qualities he brings.
  19. It's a strange thing at times is football. Less than a week ago he was almost certain to go out on loan and now he is probably second choice in midfield. Hopefully Mowbray sticks with him and resists his natural instinct to bring Smallwood back. We are certainly a better team without Smallwood starting.
  20. Given the run of form we are in I believe that is our best result of the season. Plenty of positives today and although it wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination today isn't a day for too much criticism. Along with nearly every Rovers fan I thought Travis was excellent. He tackled, he intercepted, he ran forward, he tracked back and got several important blocks in. He was well supported by many others in a real team performance. Well done to the players and staff today. It was good to walk away from a Rovers game with a sense of pride (and relief) instead of traipsing out feeling angry and frustrated.
  21. He did but it was rescinded on appeal. He was also accused (later exonerated) of rascist comments to a Brighton player and denied he did Raya on purpose. Just sayin like..
  22. Indeed he did. You can take the boy out of Burnley............................. He was nasty in the Hawthorns match and that should serve as a massive incentive for some of our players to beat West Brom today. And if somebody could smash him in the process that would be a bonus.
  23. I think that's a fair assessment of us. I really think Mowbray would like to play an quick, expansive passing game but the bulk of players he picks simply aren't good enough to play that way. Our tactics are muddled probably due to inadequacies on the field and quite often we are far too easy to play against. Mowbray often talks about artists and soldiers but he hasn't got the balance between the two despite bringing in several players.
  24. So Coyle and Kean should have had three or four years? I don't think too many are actually saying Mowbray should be sacked but there simply has to be a big turn around in results. That is the same for any manager, they are in the results business and we are currently falling massively short. He is, quite rightly under pressure and he more than anyone will know the consequences should results not improve.
  25. You are wrong, the law doesn't say every handball is a caution. For it to be an offence the referee has to deem it intentional but even then a caution is discretionary.
