I don't know anything about Asante but he strikes me as someone who'll just be at best a run of the mill Championship player for the next few seasons rather than the "difference maker" we need this. I think I'd rather try and get someone exceptional in on loan out of the two.

At most Clubs that would intensify the pressure to strengthen even more. You can spin either way: Win the next couple - "Look how well we're doing - no need to spend". Lose the next couple - "We've slipped out of realistic contention now - no point going overboard".
