  1. I'm amazed that Nixon still (seemingly) makes a living from this line of work; he's almost become a parody at this stage.
  2. Genuinely not bothered about the Scottish defender - somebody pointed out that he's pretty average for a mid table SPL side. And I'd much rather drop Philips into the side if any of the 3/4 first choice CBs aren't available - he'll develop into a far superior player. But we do need a midfielder and a striker, goes without saying.
  3. Agreed. Not fussed at all that we’re not getting the Scottish lad. Only benefit would have been his ability to play midfield.
  4. It’s a good signing to me. When we beat them at Ewood earlier this season, I made the point (on here) that their LW really caught my eye - I’m sure it was Thomas. You’d like to think that he’s being brought in to supply whoever the new striker will be (Undav?). And if we can add a solid CM before the end of the window, that’ll represent a good window. Don’t really understand the ‘moan at whatever happens’ attitude; let’s just see how it plays out.
  5. He wouldn’t last 5 minutes into his first game. Particularly after his comments after the recent game with them.
  6. That Tweet was a sad and clear attempt to create shit, probably by a Dingle. It was removed pretty sharpish once the idiot realised that only JDT is Danish on the entire coaching setup. You can say what you like about him, but he’s clearly not lost the players; quite the opposite. Also: Bielsa will be the next Everton manager. Literally zero chance of Big Sam returning to Goodison.
  7. If Cantwell’s level of ambition is playing in Scotland, I’d suggest we dodged a bullet there. Clearly didn’t fancy any level of challenge.
  8. I realise that this is probably a totally naive view, but how can anybody involved in the running of this club not think that 25k fans paying c£125 for a ST is better than 9k paying c£350? The atmosphere aspect speaks for itself and would undoubtedly help the side. And even commercially, the additional match day footfall would bring in extra revenue. I’m sure one could argue that we’d never sell c25k season tickets, but what’s the logic in not even trying? We can’t keep repeating the current process and relying on the owners to bail us out every year. We need to be innovative and take a calculated risk every now and then.
  9. Problem being, football (and the way it operates) has moved on a LOT in the last 40-50 years. Not really comparable, with all of the people involved in a particular transfer / squad numbers / work permits, etc. There is still plenty of time to get some bodies in. Recall the hysteria just before several bodies arrived, most of which were totally under the radar, at the back end of the last transfer window. As for Broughton, he’ll know what the stakes involved are. Though, in the interests of fairness, bringing Hyam to the club and tying both A.Wharton and Philips down to long term deals in his first few months totally justifies any salary he’s being paid (as that seems to be relevant for one or two on here, bizarrely).
  10. Better salary, yes. But there are a number of variables involved in any transfer (geography being one of them) and, without us knowing the player personally, we don't know how it'll play out. We should find out in the next day or two, you'd imagine...
  11. This times a thousand. It's a long term strategy, with the aim of being sustainable and built on solid foundations. The handful shouting for JDT and Broughton to be sacked, a few months into this strategy is short-termism in the extreme and would do nothing but set us back further than where we started from. Might be being optimistic, but I like to think that the vast majority of supporters can see this.
  12. A pressing forward is exactly what's needed, out of possession. Haven't seen enough of Burns on the ball to make a judgement, if I'm honest - but based on Vale's performances this season, I'm not sure he could be a less effective option?
  13. I want Vale to do well, as he's our player - and he has shown small spurts of quality. However, the rest of the time, his decision making looks a second off the pace, which shows in his late choice of pass and over-dribbling attempts. Also lightweight and weak on the ball. I hope that JDT is making a point by playing him - ie who else do we have to choose from? Not too disappointed with a point from today's game. Ugly match, had hoped we'd done enough at 1-0, but 1-1 is ok.
  14. I'm not 100%, but I think there was a photoshoot at Ewood today, around lunch time / early afternoon. Couldn't tell you who it was, had assumed the GK.
  15. What a bizarre - and naive - attitude. Genuinely hope you aren’t a people manager, in whatever you do for a living. As has been mentioned already, Broughton will be judged over 4-6 transfer windows, not 6 months into the job.
  16. At £8m, we're probably breaking even on BBD (with wages / bonuses / etc) - as the promotion caveat has not been triggered, Forest will have received £4m-£5m from us (with an add-on from the sale). Still, better than nothing as it would be in the summer and you'd like to think that at least some of that will be reinvested. Though, this Venky's we're talking about... I hope it's true, the time is right for him and it's an amazing opportunity for him to try himself at a higher level. He's the type of player who will be better with better players around him. Surely, SURELY, a decent sell-on has to be part of any deal...
  17. Understand what you mean, I've gone through the cycle a couple of times - when Kean and Shagnew were raping the club, I refused to have anything to do with it. However, I've always gone full circle at some point - I remember just before the nosedive last season, I'd picked up a HST, my little lad was wanting to come to every game and games were a highlight most weekends. In a way, I'm gutted that I was only a kid when we were Prem champions, as I didn't enjoy or appreciate it the same way as I would now. We were the best team in the country, I'd not been alive during any years of hardship and with Jack around, there was no end in sight. I can only imagine how amazing it must have been to have lived through the long period outside of the top flight, then go through the early 90's.
  18. Zero hope or optimism after the last couple. Which means that we'll win 2-0. I'd go with: Kaminski Hedges Wharton Ayala Hyam Pickering Morton Travis Wharton BBD Gallagher Need to start well and not concede early, keep it 0-0 til HT maybe. Then switch to a 4-3-3, with Dack, Dolan and Markanday coming on to insert a bit of quality (Dack) and pace (the other two).
  19. There is absolutely nothing more than sheer good thinking to suggest that this would happen. Things could be a LOT worse than what they are for us, right now.
  20. But they aren’t going to - it’s highly likely that the family’s ownership of the club will outlive the majority of us. Her son has been groomed to take over for some time, spends almost every home game watching from Jack’s old suite. It’s wasted energy calling for the owners to leave; they won’t. What is more pressing is the immediate failing of the team and the lack of spine running through it. And the management team has to taken responsibility for that.
  21. Fuck right off. Rotherham. Literally no excuses, this is pathetic.
  22. As annoyed I am at how spineless we’ve been, I will say that JRC has been pretty good again at right back. Not that much use when you’re 0-2 down against the worst team in the league, but I’ll take any crumb of positive at this stage.
  23. Aside from the fact that this isn’t going to happen, we need more pressing changes.
  24. Plenty of the ball, but it seems the tactic is ‘get it to Dack and hope he produces magic’. Problem with that is, most of the team are not on his wavelength or ability level. I do like Gallagher in general, but he’s been woeful today. Heavier touch than usual and should have buried the 1-on-1. Just bite the bullet, stick Dolan and Markanday on at HT; 3 points is right there for us in this game, Rotherham offer nothing.
