The January 2026 Transfer Window

They had to submit the 25 man squad last night If they filled that then any free agents would have to be U21 -

Are we a team who can afford to carry one player in a system designed around him in return for one pass that carries a 25% chance of being converted into a goal ? There ca n be a place for him but he has to be a cog in the wheel because he isn't the engine that drives it but that's how they try to do it. -
You'll be seeing him in the stands sat next to Pasha and Rudy whilst Cookie is in the dug-out. They'll need to be giving out sick buckets with each ticket.

Could it be that many of our players have lost direction a little bit under Ismael's period? -

Is it about this time we dig out the free agents list to see if there's anyone of any interest? I wanted us to go for Diego Costa once. Lol. Unsurprisingly we weren't interested. -

Well, even when he is at his worst, like yesterday, he still made the pass for Jørgensen's big chance, which I would claim that 90% of our players could not replicate if they tried ten times. -
Watching him last night, I genuinely don't know what he is any more. He's not even someone who can keep the ball ticking over nicely. A few nice touches here and there but that's quite literally it (although I will give him that chip for Jorgensen - it was delightful). Engine not good enough, doesn't get stuck in enough, falls over too much, too ponderous on the ball to progress attacks. And as for him having the captaincy, he quite clearly isn't a guy for the trenches. The armband being on him really is testament to the season we are having.

I spent a little bit of time last night trying to spot the best up and coming managers from the lower Leagues with outstanding records in the hope of identifying the next Ken Furphy or Gordon Lee who can get a tune out of an ordinary group of players and who might be able to thrive on a budget. The three that caught my eye in terms of age profile and record were 1) Dave Challinor at Stockport, (already flagged up by Merce and another poster on here) the oldest of the 3 at 50 but with a 51% win record over an extended career 2) The manager at Lincoln Michael Skubala - younger 43 but with a similar win percentage (45%) over a much shorter career. Seemingly stood in at Leeds for 3 games as caretaker manager before that which I dont recall. 3) One that really intrigued me was a 40 Yr old centre back Jimmy Mcnulty acting as player manager for Rochdale and who seemingly has them streaking away with the Conference leaving the likes of Sparky and Savage in his rear view mirror at the moment. Again hovering around the 50% win ratio. I know he probably couldnt play at that age at CB in the Championship but Howard Kendal vibes? Anyone know anything about him? Is it Tyrone who has Rochdale links?

According to the BBC in last nights Arsenal v Chelsea game every time Arsenal were preparing to take a corner Chelsea sent three players down field to prevent Arsenal packing the penalty area. It’s being hailed as a coaching master stroke ! -
And yet for most of the season, they have been playing Kahn Mental!

Ohashi in the attacking midfielder role. As Emerald said. Cantwell can move on -

People keep using the word potential in regards to Cantwell but he never really shows any. Yes he's one of the only actual footballers we have but we can't keep having the team set up just for him to drift around falling over. We aren't making the best of what he might bring and he shouldn't be anywhere near the captaincy. -
Seeing pictures of steve kean while I'm eating breakfast is not doing my gut any favours.

I’m reading all this anti-Coleman diatribe & I think we all need to remember, he did a decent job at Stanley for many years…👀

We don’t know really I’d like to see him on either side of gudjohnsen with Ohashi in the 10 role as it’s clear cantwell is way too much of a luxury player in the circumstances we find ourselves -
Agreed (again I hope) I think it's either a brilliant wind up by someone who is aware he once worked with Kean or an innocent over-reaction to the early betting odds.
-
A couple of Bo's, Svensen and Henriksson both recently turned down Werder Bremen. Could it be ? I mean, who wouldn't turned down a German giant to come here. Maybe they fancy a challenge 😄
-
Agreed (I hope) A lot of us have remarked in the past about how it seems to suit the Club's purposes to stay in the Championship for whatever reason. Whenever we have a realistic shot at the play offs they seem to deliberately derail it. Conversely the last time we were in danger of relegation they did actually remove Coyle (albeit too late) and relatively speaking threw the kitchen sink at it trying to get back up by refusing to shed any high earners and signing Armstrong on loan in January. Now they've sacked Ismael as well which many of us thought they wouldnt do having given him a 3.5 year deal. I don't think even they are stupid enough to spend money on potting Ismael then put themselves back in exactly the same position by appointing Coleman.

What do we think are the chances of having a new manager in place in time for Saturday? Unlikely I'd say, I suspect that they will breathe a sigh of relief after the win last night and feel some pressure is off and send DJ to Norwich on Saturday, giving them a full week after that to do something. Although we won I'd say the need for a new manager is even more clear after last night - I'm not suggesting DJ was responsible for that performance but it is quite clear we need a strong, experienced, no-nonsense manager to get to work quickly to give us any chance of survival.

It won;t be Coleman

I totally get people who have had enough of Cantwell and his potential; however, one of the key attributes of the next manager (and his team) must be to get the best out of the players we have. For many of the players, that presumably means very simple, clear directions and playing on their, it must be admitted, few strengths. When it comes to Cantwell, I don't know what the trick is. But there must be a trick. Somewhere. When he played his first 45 minutes for Rovers at Ewood against QPR, he was clearly rusty as hell, but his movement and vision were still better than anyone on the pitch. Eustace even got a tune out of Gueye... -

Ohashi’s willingness to run has made Gudjohnsen’s job easier. Is Jorgensen capable of the level of effort. -
stop looking up pictures of them then?
