You're talking about a bygone time, may as well talk about Crompton et al for the relevance it has to our current situation. For the avoidance of doubt, Watford are a far better run club than ours and are far more likely to taste success (by any metric you choose) than we are under the current regime.

If someone like TAA or Foden are left out then so be it. TAA wouldn't be first two choices at right back. Is Foden better than a Bellingham, Palmer or Eze? By contrast we've given managers bucket loads of time - Bowyer got 2 years+, Mowbray 5 years +, JDT and Eustace would have had as long as they wanted if they had been willing to stick around and put up with it. And we've got nowhere. They've been to the PL, stayed there and got to the FA Cup final. Not bad for a small club. 'Strange and weird' may well be a fair description for their owners. Youve got a combination of poorer groups, and even with them, when 2/3 of the teams qualify, youve got to do well not to qualify anyway. Id even prefer a 32 team euro and 64 team world cup compared to the sham we have now. But it should be 16 and 32.
