Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach

Cost us 4 points this week bringing de Neve on instead of Ribeiro. -

The lads need to put it behind them now, the history books show 2 draws in the last 2 games which isn’t terrible in theory. It’s followed by the single kindest game you could ask for, no excuses, go and win that one. Swansea and Oxford play each other so a win pulls us away from at least one of them as well

The question is why Ismael continues to bring on De Neve and leave Ribeiro and Pickering sitting on the bench. Both are better defenders - has he provided an explanation? -

Daft comment - the match had to be replayed in full. -

In the 4 minutes of injury time- The Ipswich long throw is taken from on the pitch with clear grass between touchline and back of the heel. Ref is stood 30 yards from where we are repeatedly shielding the ball in the corner and gives a goal kick when the ball clearly goes out off a ref sock after Cantwell clipped the ball onto the Ipswich shin. That was par for the entire game. -

Can put a decent first XI on the pitch for this level, wider squad? Dreadful, simple as that and that’s down to this disgraceful regime. -

It kind of is the officials fault for giving a goal kick at the end when it was a corner. That would probably been the end of the match and a win had that not happened. -

Fair enough if he is but I read it as he would have kept him on. -
I played up until I was 24 but was involved in an RTA and sustained a fractured femur. During my rehab the physio (Steve Foster who became Rovers physio later) said it would be unlikely that I would play at the same level again. I weighed up my options and to stay involved refereeing was my best option. I went in completely blind with no aspirations or idea about the promotion pathway. I recall my first game at Houghton and alone in the changing room feeling isolated with no team mates around me. Having played was definitely was but he'll and I soon felt comfortable. After various promotions I ended up as a Football League referee in 1995 and stayed until I retired in 2006. Significantly the group I came through with in 1983 were in their mid twenties as I was and had played. To varying degrees we were all successful which gives some credence to my thinking about youngsters who have never played not having a feel for the game.

Isnt he/she suggesting that the issue waant having to take Hedges off but bringing the useless De Neve on? -

I wasnt feeling positive after seeing us throw away another game late on. And im not prepared to just pass all the blame on to the referee, or referees in general. Was it a red card? Probably, but then the whole game becomes different. Was it a penalty? I dont think so. But we cant control that. We can control constantly chucking away points. Our pathetic home record, and constantly giving up points. The squad is so weak, the subs are embarassing, the manager is a loser. Still, we must be competing for promotion in the alternative table where we "deserve" to be. -

Yes obviously it would be better if we had squad depth and could make decent subs and rotate the squad but we don’t. I’m not suggesting he never makes another substitution! I just think if there is nobody capable of replacing a player and you are trying to conserve a lead you might have to risk it for 10 mins. Especially as the exact same thing happened 4 days ago! - Today

It's frustration like it has been for many of us and last night was the culmination of several incorrect decisions. I believe he is totally right to put it out there. Do you think we should just accept them? -
So wages up significantly and still hovering around the traditional annual loss figure despite everything they've done over the last 3-4 years to slash costs. Either they're making a right mess of things and somehow still losing the same amounts now as they were before despite everything they've done. Or there is something seriously dodgy going on.

The last 10 mins should have been replayed, no justification for 90. -

It wasn't the ref's fault that we only scored 1 goal (again, that's 18 goals in 18 games - not enough) or that we conceded (again, that's still 0 clean sheets at home). We could have defended a 1-0 lead far better than the disorganised chaotic mess that we provided (admittedly some may be down to tiredness but not the whole story). And what happened last night is exactly the reason why the game should have been replayed in full. A goal in the last 30 seconds - even if undeserved over the 90 minutes - can easily happen, especially with our dismal home record. -

Not me - I’m merely RT’ing the excellent BRFC Archive account. Those who have listened to the latest podcast will now know Scott Mason who is behind the terrific resource 👍 -
There’s no point of a four game bundle if it’s no cheaper pro rata than what you’d expect a match ticket to be anyway (I.e works out at £27 to £30 a game in the JW) as you only need to miss one for it to be terrible value. Also logically if you are somebody that doesn’t buy a ST in the first place then by default you don’t want to commit to multiple games in a row. Waste of time from a regime that is cynically using crap deals that will get no take up in order to go ‘see, told you so’ in FF meetings.

Woke up and checked the score- initially thought ‘1-1 vs Ipswich, it'll do’. Then I saw it was the second late equaliser conceded in four days….
