LeChuck Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I watched about 10 minutes and couldn't take it any more, what a horrible piece of television. Spoofs/parodies are inherently 'easy' anyway, but doing it on something as cheap and tacky as reality talent shows is low. The thing is...I just didn't get it. What makes the real shows (debatably) funny is the awful acts are genuine, but when it's scripted...well, like I said, I don't get it. If it had been done Kevin Bishop or someone like that I could understand, but I'm really disappointed that it was Peter Kay. What rubbed it in even more was that More 4 had a Phoenix Nights marathon the previous evening to promote the reality thing, and that's still brilliant now...it gave me hope that there might be something worth watching in the reality one, because originally I wasn't going to bother giving it a chance. Wish I'd stuck by my original decision to be honest. Thankfully Father Ted was on More 4 later to cheer me up. Edit: And apparently there's a winner's single? My word, maybe poor Peter's short for Christmas spending money.

I thought it was a very good atempt to capture the parody of reality show such as X Factor, Britain's got talent etc. The sob story thing was funny as it is so true with these shows, and anyway you like Father Ted but that is just a parody aimed at the Catholic Church.
LeChuck Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Father Ted isn't a parody ffs! A parody is an imitation of someone else's work, usually done poorly or in an exaggerated manner to take the ######. But still, if that's an indication of your level of appreciation for comedy then I'm not surprised you liked it.
JC4LAB Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Good to see some of my Fav local Comdeyclub Comedians,John Bishop,Andy Watson etc appearing on TV
adopted scouser Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I thought Britain's got the pop factor was bloody funny. 'Two up two down' singing Tragedy - "when the feeling's gone" They even had the secret cd processing plant in Blackburn, loved it.
Ozz Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 IT made my laugh quite a lot, which was Kays intention I guess. Not a lot makes my laugh these days, so it must have been good. Well observed, written and performed apart from Kay himself with his cod Belfast accent again, which grates. Kays work in front of the camera last night was the only weak point for me, but overall pretty damn funny. An impressive list of guests too.
ABBEY Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 just seen 24 redemption on ads,is this a cinema movie or dvd realease?
Rovermatt Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 If your talking about 24, as far as I know there is a two hour (real time) TV special coming to bridge the gap between the new season and the last.
ABBEY Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 so is there a new season coming? i thought that was the last? or am i being doh?
Nelsta Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 loved the Peter Kay thing last night, The Celebs played it really well. Peter Waterman was funny "Best vocals i've heard in 25 years.....as good as sonia" And Dr Fox's random lines at the end of the performances.
adopted scouser Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 And Dr Fox's random lines at the end of the performances. To two up two down - "You'll walk it" That audition bloke with the dog "hip here.... hip here......... hip here I've brought the wrong bloody dog
Nelsta Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 To two up two down - "You'll walk it" That audition bloke with the dog "hip here.... hip here......... hip here I've brought the wrong bloody dog The duet with R Wayne and the Dummie had me in stiches aswell. "and the winner in no particular order"
Biddy Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I can't believe they've released the "winners song" already. Saw it in Tesco at £1.99 and almost bought it. Then I saw sense. Didn't even like the program last night. The song is catchy though.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Yeah it's in HMV as well. Funny stuff.
American Rover12 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Just started watching Dexter, the show on Showtime. Liking it quite a bit. Anyone else seen this?
Neil Weaver Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Just started watching Dexter, the show on Showtime. Liking it quite a bit. Anyone else seen this? The first series (the one about the Ice Truck Killer) was on ITV - the main terrestrial commercial channel over here - a few months ago. I think there's a second series due here fairly shortly. Yep, thought it was pretty good. Can't help feeling it could have had a more 'final' ending though, it was a bit contrived, making sure there'd be a follow on series. Suppose that's the way of TV series though.
American Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 That's pretty much the way the books were. The story was interesting, but the whole "what was this thing - a feeling?" part was annoying.
Alan75 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 That peter kay show was tripe! The concept was good, instead of it being a comedy they should make a serious show, maybe they could do a weekly show over 26 weeks picking talent from all over the country with the prize of a recording contract at the end, or a part in a west end show / musical.
gazsimm Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 went to see the Kaiser Chiefs last night at the academy in Manchester, and guess who came on stage half way through (the one and only Peter Kay), the crowd went mad when he came on and then he started singing his song lol, The Kaiser Chiefs were great as well.
Flopsy Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 i watched stephen fry and simon schama's documentaries over the weekend. Very good if you can catch them on iplayer.

Rovermatt Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I've started watching season 2 of Life. It's ok but suffers from being pretty vacuous. Damien Lewis is brilliant though and Donal Logue is excellent as the boss who replaced Calamity Jane from Deadwood. Also, I'm absolutely loving John Adams - great writing, great actors, great photography and the legendary David Morse. I can see why it did so well at the Emmys.
American Rover12 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 John Adams is fantastic. Really a good watch to anyone interested in that period.
