EwoodGlory Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Im not suprised with this one. He didn't look like he had a strong enough personality to get them out of any trouble. A bit to nice. Any ideas if they have anyone lined up, maybe this would be ideal for Souey? I suppose Jewell will be linked, but I gather he wants a new challenge.

nicko Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Dave Whelan has just gone off on holiday...so don't be surprised if this takes a while to get sorted out. Odd timing by the chairman. Sat in front of him on Saturday and guessed this would happen. Not a word from him during the game. He usually shouts and bawls. Think he knew the time was up. Shame for Hutch, lovely fella but not a boss.
Backroom trueblue Posted November 5, 2007 Backroom Posted November 5, 2007 Nicko, is Ray Ryan of The Screws a mate of yours? If so could you do me a big favour? Tell him he's a bone idle, useless waste of space. CHEERS! Same goes for the nutmeg who wrote the match report in the People Nicko... never read so much drivel in all my life - makes one wonder if this plonk was actually at the match ! Which ermm beg the question, how come you covered the Notlob game and not us Nicko?

Very similar to Ray Harford (R.I.P) nice guy,and a good coach, but was never good enough to be a manager. No doubt Souey will be favourite for the wigan job.

Couldn't possibly comment on anyone else's match reports.

nicko Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Any early news on replacement? Fancy having a flutter... Working on it...if you find a market let me know. Will name the two leading candidates in the morning. Not before. And Souey is not one of them from what I hear. Certainly not at the moment.
Mozzer Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 chris hutchins at the beginning did well, when he started to get inuries it went wrong..im sure if he got his players back they would do better... jewell fancies a return to management, imagine him going back lol...
thenodrog Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 It's the way of the world...but better that that having players nobody else wants. Exactly. There will be another equally as good as samba somewhere. What BRFC under Hughes are doing so well that was never done in the past (apart from the JW KMD team building era) is getting our retaliation in first as it were. I've banged on about this frequently before. Everybody is expendable and for a club like ours with small crowds and limited marketing potential there is nothing at all wrong with selling players for profit .... as long as a replacement of equal or more ability has been lined up first! Last year Hughes would not let Neill go until Warnock had agreed to sign and everybody now appears to agree that we are better off on the field. Same with Todd, we had signed Samba and he had bedded in for half a season before Todd was allowed out. Nothing Hughes could do about Bellamy cos of that clause except replace him with at least as good if not better which imo he most certainly has done. Jack Walker frequently said that BRFC is a business and must be run as one (not sure that always he stuck to his own advice mind ). The ability to find new talent and add value to them is the main reason why Hughes is so valuable to BRFC. What has happened on the field is superb .......... but imo what has happened off it is even better! The man is an absolute diamond

modes98 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Well who would have picked that one! Another assistant steps up and is cut down in his prime. Southgate next?
thenodrog Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Why would Allardyce be in the frame? Dunno.... just a wild guess based on nothing in particular. Reports that Mike Ashley doesn't rate him, and he was a Shepherd appointment......... whisper it quietly cos Ashley has been reported to rate Mark Hughes highly though
Torgeir Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 According to Norwegian media we're after Yssouf Koné from Rosenborg. Have you heard anything about that Nicko? They tried to offload him to other Norwegian clubs during the summer but there were no takers because of their asking price. After that he broke into the side and started scoring quite a few.

I wouldn`t give 2 hoots if we sold the entire 1st team,as long as we kept Hughes. The guy has a natural ability to spot good talent and i feel he could replace anybody in the first team with someone just as good and a lot cheaper. If we are lucky enough to keep Hughes for the next 5 years,i have no doubt we will win at least 1 major trophy. Happy days!!
nicko Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Skybet - Next Wigan Boss Odds Cheers. Interesting. One of the names I've got isn't even on that list... By the way, checking the tip about the lad from Rosenborg out. Still in the Champions League, so if it is a live one they would probably watch the Valencia game this week. Spies at all airports.
T4E Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 There's also a market now open on Betfair - Souness is very short priced favourite.

Sandiway Blue Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 My advice would be to save your cash... Does this mean you are going to lump some coin on both the names you think are favs? if so i could do with some myself.....
nicko Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Does this mean you are going to lump some coin on both the names you think are favs? if so i could do with some myself..... I know there are some names with a better chance than others at this stage - but both guys on the top of that list are hard to get. So I would leave it alone just now. Souey is only favourite because a couple of papers wrote it. But then againSky say Paul Jewell is a runner. I prefer to lay bets in these markets and profit from some of the half-baked stupidity that gets spouted. Think it's a strategy that worked well at Bolton...Paul Jewell was favourite for that but never even a runner.
