Hypo-Luxa Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Speaking of Adu - does anyone think he would make it in the Prem? If we did make a move - I wonder if the Ryan Nelsen factor would help us. Didn't they play together? If Convey can make it in the Championship, Adu surely can. It remains to be seen if Convey can handle a full season of the Prem and I think Adu would have problems. Give him a few years to fill out his frame, better his footy IQ and he'd be fine. Scotland would be a good move, however if he's at Celtic he'd be getting sporadic games and a youngster like him needs as many minutes as possible. Same could be said about us. He'd be stuck down in the pecking order. I like the direction of going for a youngster with some talent (a la Rigters), but he nor his agent will want to come into a team as the third/fourth choice kind of situation. BUT, I do believe we need a big money creative midfielder more than a big money striker. Tugay's a year older, Reid is in who knows what kind of shape and what are we left with? We really need to focus on a creative mid-fielder or else it's going to be easy to defend us since the only service will be off of wide play and set pieces.

USRoverME Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I think Adu isn't ready for the prem, but a team like Rovers would be as good a fit for him right now. He's still lightweight, and prone to being booted off the ball (see the Uruguay match at the U-20 WC) He needs someone to stand in for him and help take the heat off him physically (a Sav or Axe type). Of course he's starting to grow a habit of falling over too easy which I dislike, but the kid does have attacking talent. Oh and as for him being/not being a winger. He's played out wide a lot for his club sides in the MLS, but he has a habit of drifting way too far inside if he isn't getting the ball, but with his speed and touches he could be a dangerous "run at people" type winger, if he learned some patience in that role, or was routinely delivered the ball.
USRoverME Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 A little harsh considering players like Benyoun and Torres went to Liverpool for less money than was being offered elsewhere But how much less? Anyways, I aplogize, there are 2 types of players, ones motivated by money, and ones motivated by the glitz and glamour of the Champions League..... Still, how many times to do see players take less money to stay or move to a lower teir club like Rovers. We can talk all we want about progress and the ability to challenge for Europe, but we are not a glitzy high-profile team that can draw a player for lesser money due to the "awe" factor of playing for such a big club....
USABlue Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Adu? I think he is a talent that will never realise it's full potential. His time to move was a couple of years ago, he should have moved to Europe hooked up with one of the teams with a well respected youth programme. I think he has lost a lot in terms of development by staying in America.
JAL Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Dunny? Well flopsy i take it you are David Dunn, what i'd advise you flopsy/Dunny is to get yourself booked in with a top class athletics coach thats if Rovers dont have any and give yourself a chance to build that vital must have extra yard of speed into your game, this for me would make all the difference on the pitch to your/Dunnys game. We need a faster Dunny on that pitch than the one we've been seeing last season, though i thought your/Dunny's best decentish game was away to Arsenal in the cup even though the distribution to Nonda that game was second class the closing down on Fabregas was excellent and very determined .

Hypo-Luxa Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I consider Dunny as a viable option a creative midfield about as much as I consider Bernier a viable option at LB. Not to say they can't do a job, but do you have any confidence whatsoever going into a game with either of those two in the starting line-up? Get a creative middie in and let Benni, Roberts, Rigters, Derbyshire, and Gally handle the strike duties. It's not the best class of strikers, but it's good enough if the monies need to be placed on a truly great creative midfielder.
thenodrog Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Obviously he would come for the money - but we dont want Money motivated players! A little harsh considering players like Benyoun and Torres went to Liverpool for less money than was being offered elsewhere Cocker do you and Hughesy still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy? I'll bet you still believe that rubbish spouted by Bellamy that he went to Liverpool for less money than we were offering? Wages/Salary possibly, as Lpool dont want to cause unrest amongst the squad (a tactic not even entering bald heads at the Boleyn ground...YET btw)... BUT total remuneration package inc loyalty bonus, and a cut of future transfer fees definitely!
Saf Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 looks like niko's right, cardiff want jeffers to replace chopra and according to the LET he no longer looks like he will be figuring in mark hughes plans and instead he will be playing in tommorows reserve game. in fact he hasnt at all traveled out to germany with the rest of the squad http://www.lancashireeveningtelegraph.co.u....1545243.0..php

THere is no doubt Dunn is a very talented unconventional sort of player, but thats part fo the prblem- its very hard to fit him into a side. When he came in last season he was used as a replacement for Robbie Savage which was not ideal even if he did a half decent job at it. I would like to see Dunn given a shot in a deeper role ticking the play over in a partnership with Reid or Savage and see whether he can summon up the quality he once showed at Ewood. I am skeptical at to whether it would work but I would say its the only real option he has to get in the side. He can't be the "attacking midfielder" who bursts into the last third as Reid and Savage have that covered. Ultimately though I think he is probably destined to act as cover for injuries as he doesn't have the sort of solidarity that Reid, Savage and Mokoena possess, and obviously he doesn't have a hope in hell of dislodging Bentley and MGP.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Is Santa Cruz back in Germany yet? As the LET says we're training at the same camp as Bayern Munich.

Alan75 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Now I wonder why that does not fill me with joy? Personally I think its a better option than spending money on Nonda.
nicko Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 The Beattie thing is definitely a live issue. It has been hanging around for months but it flared up again last week. Everton would sell, it's not worked for him there, but they will have to find a replacement. If the price is right - and that would have to be around £2.5 million - it's decent business. Beattie gets the wrong type of service at Everton where the wide men do not get so many crosses over, but I think he would benefit from having David Bentley and Morten Gamst Pedersen picking him out. I know there will be reservations about him coming back, but it might be a shrewd move.
