blue phil Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 It is really amazing how negative people on this board are. The shock wears off after a while . Then you accept it as the norm ......

JAL Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 It is really amazing how negative people on this board are. Its based on what we see, what we know, and more importantly what we need versus what we are up against, dont give me the small Blackburn bit when we have a budget of £40m plus.
philipl Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Against Arsenal we were fielding our 4 non-suspended non-injured midfield which included playinf Berner as left wing. Now anyone willing to tell me that having Fortune as cover (assuming he is now fit again) is an unnecessary luxury? It is not the moaning so much as the complete ignorance of Premiership football which I despair of.

Fortunes playing career in the premiership doesnt back up any motion that he could be a good alternative better an unknown.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 73 appearances for Manure scoring 5 goals isn't too bad for a 2nd/3rd choice player, especially in an area we are weak in. It's not like we are buying him so we really haven't got much to lose.

Seems to me like people are so desperate and trust Hughes that if anyone is put forward then theres no problem which is a worrying scenario for me.
philipl Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 OK Jal, three choices: Fortune Nobody Somebody else we could sign tomorrow outside the windows (name them) Judgement, trust, feel good or feel bad don't come into it, do they?
JAL Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 OK Jal, three choices: Fortune Nobody Somebody else we could sign tomorrow outside the windows (name them) Judgement, trust, feel good or feel bad don't come into it, do they? Interesting 'philipl' at this moment in time short term what is there to lose, yeah short term, end of season nothing more, even if he does better than expected. If not then nobody, of all the millions of young talented footballers out there this to me seems an easy, lazy mans capture that doesnt pull the wool over my eyes. The management shouldnt be desperate to sign people outside of the transfer window - should they, what happened to planning or do they not plan anymore?
philipl Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Looks they planned to sign Huddlestone and didn't plan for Savage to fall apart and chuck his toys out of the pram. In the current market, plan B was Koumas at £5m so I guess Plan C looking long and hard at Fortune on a free is the least worst option.
revolutionrock! Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Plymouth 3-1 Burnley Very Nice indeed.
bluebruce Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Reina is as good or better then Cech,Friedel,Given and James. Given aside, are you stark raving mad?
deryck guyler's spoon Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Plymouth 3-1 Burnley Very Nice indeed. Oh dear.
philipl Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I would have thought Nicko knew the first law of the town clubs of Lancashire. As soon as you big them up, they let you down. 14 points off automatic promotion and with goal difference taken into consideration, the gap from the dingles to Blackpool is smaller than the gap from the dingles to a play-off place. 20/1 against promotion look realistic odds now with arguably the stronger WBA, Charlton and Watford now sitting in the play-offs with Ipswich just outside with Hull seemingly the latest club to hit a good patch of form and Plymouth Sturrocking away up there.
broadsword Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 No goals from Goal King Cole today. Burnley must've been put off their stride after travelling down to Plymouth on a double decker bus.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Looks like my tip- stoke are doing rather well.... Nicko
thecomebackid Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Perhaps this is a bit too negative , but with the likes of Bristol/Stoke Cities; a financially stricken Charlton and the ever yo-yo-ing WBA/Watford holding their own as the promotion run-in get's under way, from a purely selfish point of view, it bodes well for us next season regarding a bit of extra insurance against the (albeit remote) possibility of being dragged in to any relegation scrap. Talking of which, at the time of writing; looks like Nuke-castle just entered their own relegation dog fight
1864roverite Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Plymouth 3-1 Burnley Very Nice indeed. My friends at PAFC sent me a birthday treat. Now then Nicko, lets talk about just how wide the gap REALLY is
nicko Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 My friends at PAFC sent me a birthday treat. Now then Nicko, lets talk about just how wide the gap REALLY is It's a setback. A bad result. And for the Andy Cole expert...he was ruled out of this one about a week ago. Keep up. By my reckoning that leaves Burnley ninth and four points off the play-offs with a game in hand. Rovers current position is?

nicko Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 In the Premier League. Good spot. Ninth isn't much good to me at either level...but it's not a position for anyone to crow about either.
philipl Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Being pedantic, Rovers are back where we were last season end in tenth following WHam's 93rd minute handball winner at Fulham. And the dingles are 5 points and 7 goals off 6th.
ElTwis Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Nicko has provided us with inside knowledge and sparked entertaining debate on this board for some time now. It seems to me some people are jealous of this and are using what was, in reality, fair comment about Burnley as a stick to try and beat him with. Nicko is not a Burnley fan, nor is he a Rovers fan. He is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else and it is embarrassing to read comments from people trying to look clever and prove him wrong because of one result. Keep this up and we will be back to guessing about what is happening at Rovers and having ridiculous arguments about who does and does not have "a source at the club".

nicko Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 I'd have to say having a a row over Rovers v Burnley is about as interesting as it gets round here right now...which maybe tells you something. The fact is that I would like your club to finish top six for several reasons. Likewise - and probably more - I want to see Burnley in the top six and then winning the play-offs. So, let the banter continue. What I would add is that the Championship is so up-and-down, with so many unpredictable results, that it is fun right now. Anyone trying to predict the final placings is barking.
T4E Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Good spot. Ninth isn't much good to me at either level...but it's not a position for anyone to crow about either. Being in the Premier League is plenty to crow about. Keep up.
