Hughesy Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Think they are both defensive midfielders, which sounds a bit wierd to me considering we need to strengthen other positions asap! If Grella is going to be the new sicknote then maybe we do need to sign another! They really do need to tell this Grella lad to take the time needed to recover 100% before returning, or its just going to get worse.

chileandude Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Christian Benitez is a striker from Ecuador. Voted mvp in Primera Division de Mexico in 2008. More facts about him here: Wiki Benitez Quality Forward. ...very strong as well.
RoverRich Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Probably be a load of rubbish as that is what is usually on that site but here are a couple of vids of Benitez from youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iurXwN4W2TM&...feature=related http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rjLAZHdZjyw Strikes me as a complete striker. Strong, powerful, fairly quick, decent feet, his finishing doesn't look too bad and he can head a ball. A combo between Roberts and Santa Cruz perhaps. Tell us what you know chileandude!
gazsimm Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 gaz how times has derbs played in his natural position? Abbey he has had many chances playing up front before and not once have i been impressed with his displays. His only impact to the team is coming on late into the games, to try and nick a goal for us when defenders are tired. I think Gally overall offers us far more to the team then what Matty does to us.
EwoodGlory Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Has Nicko's article on Benitez been mentioned yet? It was in The People yesterday. £8m NEW HEZZA By Alan Nixon Wigan boss Steve Bruce is making a record move for Ecuador striker Cristian Benitez, as he faces up to the prospect of losing Emile Heskey and Amr Zaki. Bruce sent top spy John Benson to check on the little goal machine - who plays in Mexico for Santos Laguna - and open negotiations with his agents. Latics already have Ecuadorian teammate Luis Antonio Valencia in their side and are trying to use those connections to land Benitez. Full article
RoverRich Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Well he can be ruled out of our price range then! Unless we sell Santa Cruz and look to him as a replacement I hope not cos that would be a lot of money for someone who may crash and burn in the prem as we have seen with so many south americans and, IF we were to lose Santa, I would rather see the money go to someone like Zaki who is proven quality. Would say the same about getting Mputu - risky so price must be right. I know some people on here are against signing players on loan from other prem clubs so could be controversial but I would like us to go for someone like Carlos Vela or Di Santo on loan in the january transfer window. Probably Vela over Di Santo for now. Both are young, quality who could bang in a few goals for us and hopefully drag us closer to the top half. Manucho could be another possibility on loan but I don't really know what he is like. We would be helping their clubs out giving them a bit of first team experience seeing as all they do is sit on the bench, if that, at the moment and they could help us out by scoring goals and saving us from possible relegation. We could not lose in this situation as we could just hand them back if they were no good.
Amo Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Has Vela not featured for Arsenal since his cup exploits? I'd have him here in a heartbeat.
chileandude Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Vela is quality but I'm not sure Arsenal will let him go, I think he's in the plans for some first team appearances. Di Santo is not ready yet. Don't bother...although it would be fun to see two former teammates come together.
Hughesy Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Id go for Vela on loan then maybe? Chilean - who were the other options in chile you mentioned the other day, could find the post - il pass it onto the chief scout and get him to take a look.
RoverRich Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Chilean - who were the other options in chile you mentioned the other day, could find the post - il pass it onto the chief scout and get him to take a look. Seriously??? Could you actually do that?? Orellana was the Chilean winger's name who looked pretty decent. Quick, lets all get on youtube and send in our reports via Hughesy!!!
frosty Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 That Christian Benitez was pretty handy on FM 08. In fact Rovers had him for a while on one of my games but he went to Chelsea. Get him signed up
Hughesy Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Yeah i got the guys contact details last week and so I dont see what harm it would do.
chileandude Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Wow...you have that kind of contacts! Well...yes...it was Orellana. He must be worth £2.5M or less. Unless he pulls a great performance against Spain, I doubt his price should go up too much. He doesn't have body strength but he has the speed and the skill. Blackburn could have a look and ask for the price of both players (Villanueva and Orellana)...get some sort of discount. And yes, Christian Benitez is an even better option, better suited for the EPL because of his strength. But he is a lot more expensive because the Mexican clubs have a lot of cash and pay their players well. The other good Chilean player is Gary Medel. An international and fixed number in Chile...but he's a defensive midfielder or Fullback...I don't think Blackburn needs one. They are ok in that area.
Amo Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Vela is quality but I'm not sure Arsenal will let him go, I think he's in the plans for some first team appearances. Yeah, I only meant on loan. He's got too much potential for Wenger to let him slip away just yet.
Hughesy Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Well he almost allowed Theo to go on loan last January and im sure Vela is abit further down the pecking order so it may be a viable option.
Hughesy Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 According to the papers - Hughes is considering selling Elano, Ball, Onuoha, , Vassell & Hamman. Would take Elano and Onuoha any day.
67splitscreen Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 According to the papers - Hughes is considering selling Elano, Ball, Onuoha, , Vassell & Hamman. Would take Elano and Onuoha any day. Don't say that if it's the same article I read, City will make an offer we can't refuse for RSC, on the opening day of the transfer window. I suppose it would help to ease the pain if it was the aforementioned and 10 - 12m and only if we have his repacement sitting in JW's office with a pen in his hand, as the deal is done.
47er Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 According to the papers - Hughes is considering selling Elano, Ball, Onuoha, , Vassell & Hamman. Would take Elano and Onuoha any day. Hamman could be worth a chance (if we got him for free)
Bennisfromheaven Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 another defensive midfielder? with todays speculation linking us with Mehmet Aurelio i am starting to believe the news papers are linking us with players in the Paul Ince mould. I know you cant strictly call Ince a defensive midfielder but it is just adding to the lazy jounalism!
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 According to the papers - Hughes is considering selling Elano, Ball, Onuoha, , Vassell & Hamman. Would take Elano and Onuoha any day. He needs to raise funds does he?
roverfanuk Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 According to the papers - Hughes is considering selling Elano, Ball, Onuoha, , Vassell & Hamman. Would take Elano and Onuoha any day. Agreed, would take Elano (5-6 million), Onuoha (2-3 million) & Hamman (free). Snag is, that would give them scope to bid for Roque again...
Hughesy Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 They will come for Roque anyway. Going to have a word with the lad on thursday and see if he will promise to stay put. That could be interesting.
gazsimm Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Yeah, I only meant on loan. He's got too much potential for Wenger to let him slip away just yet. did Wenger not let Bentley go????? They will come for Roque anyway. Going to have a word with the lad on thursday and see if he will promise to stay put. That could be interesting. that would be very interesting Hughesy, somehow i don't think he will be telling you what he would like to happen in the future!!!
BRFC95 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 They will come for Roque anyway. Unless Hughes gets the elbow before January.
RoverRich Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Well he almost allowed Theo to go on loan last January and im sure Vela is abit further down the pecking order so it may be a viable option. Add to that the fact it won't be long until Eduardo is back so could be even further down the pecking order come January. I say it is definitely worth a go. What is the harm in trying?
