RibbleValleyRover Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko, could you see us appointing someone young, hungry and determined to succeed and bring in at the same time an experienced ex-manager/assistant to help them? In an assistant manager role.

novella Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Good question! If Hughes feels he can't take us any further (which is probably the case) then there's certainly no way that we could do. I believe if he put his mind to it he could have taken us further, but the lack of transfer funds obviousy hinders his own ambitions to succeed. Shame... but when we're naturally viewed as a small club I suppose it adds weight to these decisions. Gun me down but I can understand Hughes' decision. whats annoying is this was the summer where hughes would have had his transfer funds to take the team maybe that bit further. obviously not much you can do when a bigger club (or one with more money) comes calling. i wonder if hughes has had a bit of a falling out with the board over something, especially with all the rumours flying around. i seem to remember him saying that blackburn wernt a selling club as if he was trying to build us up and make us a force for next season. whatever happens its football. you pick yourselves up and carry on even stronger.
LDRover Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 There is absolutely no chance of that. I don't think Rovers know who they even want to talk to yet, never mind naming a boss. Once they have a few names I will hopefully hear some of them. Any chance of Christophe Daum, or is his far from clean cut image and the fact he's German with no Prem experience going to rule him out? I think it'd be a quality appointment.
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 So come on Nicko ... what do you reckon - a sure sign of imploding at Chelski Now that would be funny and a sensation!!! Chelsea could be on the brink of big trouble here. Puppet manager gone, glamorous ex-boss at a rich club with a direct line to their best players and a grudge. Abramovich has gone his own way on the manager chase...his key employees are looking like mugs and people in the game know it. Even their own staff feel a bit stupid after the way they have handled this so far. It's not just Chelsea though. Any club run by someone who is rich but inexperienced in football runs the risk of being badly advised by muppets with their own agendas...I think you know who I mean. The game goes madder every year.
EwoodGlory Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 My current choices would be 1. Shearer 2. Coppell 3. Ince Though my heads in a bit of a spin, which I probably why I keep thinking McClaren would be a good idea Seemed to do quite well at 'Boro Big Sam would be a backward move for the club I feel, all the hard word to get the fans back to Ewood, would be undone by his appointment, and as I am in Newcastle, my friends and family would have a field day.

T4E Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Yeah, very much so. For the majority of last season we served up some appalling stuff but the fact we came 7th at the end of the season glossed over it. Like Nicko says it's not the end of the world, just the start of a new one. I'm quite excited about it if the truth be told. I'm with you too. Myself, Eddie and a few others made the point (some with more subtlety than others) after the last day of the season, but at the time I was willing to believe I was being motivated by the final day capitulation and thought over time I may change my mind. I haven't. The only bad thing about it is where he's going - I find that hard to take. Other than that, I see this as a new opportunity for a new guy to come in with new ideas and a bit of cash to spend. I'd like to see us take a chance of a foreigner, but that may come back to haunt me. Any chance of Christophe Daum, or is his far from clean cut image and the fact he's German with no Prem experience going to rule him out? I think it'd be a quality appointment. Very interesting suggestion.
bennyboyt11 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 im guessing billic is out of the question until Euros are finished...
modes98 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 im guessing billic is out of the question until Euros are finished... If it means we would get him in for certain i would happily wait the 3 weeks. Williams faces big decision, looks like Mr Neild has been reading this forum.
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Chelsea betting market suspended on betfair........ EDIT: back on,no change in odds Zico added...
leftfooter Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Any chance of Christophe Daum, or is his far from clean cut image and the fact he's German with no Prem experience going to rule him out? I think it'd be a quality appointment. He's a bit partial to the Devil's Dandruff; if he could pass a bit around the dressing room pre-match, we could be in for some exciting football.
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Is that a hint? No, just a name put on by someone. Probably his agent...
Claytons Left Boot Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Young and hungry, but with experience. Willing to work within a tight budget. No baggage. No sleazes, please. This is not the end of the world, just the start of a new one. Henning Berg? I asked your opinion last night but I think you were otherwise engaged. The candidates put forward so far do not inspire me with confidence and I am surprised his name has not been mentioned.
ihtd Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko is there any truth in the stories saying MH is going to be unveiled as Man Citeh manager at 11am today? As for replacements, i would love Billic, but he isn't going to leave his post for us, not after signing on until after the 2010 WC.
bennyboyt11 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko is there any truth in that stories saying MH is going to be unveiled as Man Citeh manager at 11am today? lol cant you wait the 9 minutes?
ihtd Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Bennyboy11, in a word, NO TBH i wanted to know because i were going to put off going to uni early if he were to be definately getting appointed at 11am like some of the press reports have stated.
Martin Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I'm convinved if Hughes does agree to manage City he will have made a huge mistake. The club is rotten at the moment. They need more than money to sort themselves out. They have an owner who ,by his own admission, will make ruthless decisions to move the club forward. Hughes will have to deliver from the word go. And possibly with players he has not chosen. If the fixtures throw an awkward opening five or six games at City Hughes may find himself in real danger of the chop - something he has never faced.
CAPT KAYOS Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Could probably throw something amongst the pigeons here.. but I'm sure I read so something posted somewhere that Rovers had enquired about Bruce at Wigan even before all this kicked off.....
Lathund Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 The fact that it was supposedly made "before all this kicked off" probably means it isn't true.
Flopsy Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Oh god, Emile Hesky up front, I feel even more sick than I do at the moment
gbax Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Could probably throw something amongst the pigeons here.. but I'm sure I read so something posted somewhere that Rovers had enquired about Bruce at Wigan even before all this kicked off..... It would cost US £5 million to get him off Dave Wealen! (Not that he's worth it)
roversmum Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 When are the fixtures announced? You just know our first one will be Man City away....... I'd heard Bruce mentioned as well - have we no ambition? Finding the Chelsea situation quite amusing - with Mourinho threatening to recruit some of their best players
Earlydoors Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko Its probably already been mentioned on here but if we assume that 1. Hughes uses Man City as a leverage to try to get Chelsea to bite 2. If Chelsea don't bite then Hughes feels he has burnt his boats and can't come back Do you think Mark Hughes actually has a geniune reason for wanting to go to City ? What do they have that he can't get at Rovers ? The money would buy the players at Blackburn and comes with "interference" strings. Can't just be UEFA cup ?
