mellison24 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Sam may have many infirmities but crystal balls are not one of them. Jacobsen was brought in before Salgado was thought of and will no doubt be a capable deputy (for wages only) depending where Salgado is played. How has NOBODY considered that Emerton is a stellar CM option? meaning Jacobsen and Salgado will vy for the RB spot, while Emerton can play CM??? Actually, Salgado can also play CDM!

Al Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 And what about Emerton who is a solid enough right back? Even if the plan was to play Emerton in central midfield this season he could play at right back if Jacobsen was injured or suspended. Right Back after signing Jacobsen shouldn't have been a priority area imo and i don't think anyone will convince me otherwise. I don't care how many bloody right backs we have when an opportunity like this come along you take it and fit the rest around him. He's a superstar.

He's a superstar. Sorry i can't agree, especially with our limited finances. People are well entitled to cream their pants with the signing of Salgado if they wish, personally i just think its a poor decision by Sam. Well aware i may be wrong and may have to put my hands up over this issue, i hope others do the same if we end up in the lower half of the table due to an injury plagued midfield and wish we took the opportunity to bring in a midfielder when we had the chance.

He's a superstar. A superstar? You fit the rest around him? Beckham, Henry, Zidane are superstars! He is a good signing but you don't put players in to fit around Salgado! Let's build our side all around a full back that may play in a holding role! Come on!
Sparky Marky Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I reckon he's going to be one of these masterstrokes....he can play much better than any of our central midfield....fantastic signing!

Say Saly is on 40k a week thats a smidge over 2million a year. If thats the case then if you find a midfielder to revelusionise (sp) our midfield for that cash go for it and tell sam aswell.

Iceman Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Thanks for that I'll do that. No idea how to copy and paste though. Not in this forum anyway. Are you a newbie Al? The signing of Salgado like i said, can only enhance our reputation in the future.
waggy Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 the defence of the manager failing to buy a midfielder is to say who would you buy,BLACKBURN ROVERS employ people to find players,to just ignore the fact we need a midfielder by saying lardarse has done this that or the other is a poor excuse,we need a midfielder,dunn/ried will not play 20 games this season,we need them replaced and before the transfer window shuts
Al Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Are you a newbie Al? The signing of Salgado like i said, can only enhance our reputation in the future. No I'm an oldie, cheeky young whippersnapper. Been on here since Adam was a lad.
mellison24 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 dunn/reid will not play 20 games this season I took the liberty of correcting your spelling. And are you prepared to put your money were your fingers are?
JAL Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Can fully understand why people just cant understand the logic of signing Salgado in the present predicament but thats football. When the club were signing Jacobsen did the club know that a player of Salgado's quality would not only be available but would want to come to Ewood Park - dont think so. Salgado is a massive coup for Rovers despite his age, for me I wasnt for signing any 30 year plus players but certain ones are the exception to the rule and this player is one. I'm sure big Sam and JW are working overtime trying to find a solution to the midfield, we may just have to wait until after the West Ham game to find out who comes into the Rovers midfield. Come on ye blues! enterprising AS EVER !
waggy Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 we've nearly got as many right backs as bumley, with the way people are talking about salsaldo i would have thought he would have played every game for real madrid not 17 in two seasons
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Sam has just said on Rovers Player that there wont be anymore ins or outs this summer.
Kelbo Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Did any of you have a guy in the school team who had this thing about him, a charisma, a presence and when he was playing you felt lifted, confident and comfortable??? Salgado or any other player of that calibre would do just that, I think that is why Sam has signed him not just for his footballing ability but for his experience and charisma around the place! Certain players have that aura about them and he has! Those are my views anyway>

hi-jaq Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 we've nearly got as many right backs as bumley, with the way people are talking about salsaldo i would have thought he would have played every game for real madrid not 17 in two seasons Real Madrid have spent big money on big players over the last few years, Salgado was once a main stay at right back for them, I've seen pictures of him with the Champions League Trophy, La Liga Trophy & the Copa Del Rey, he did also play in the cup final games to win those trophys (except La Liga, obviously!!!). The guy has serious pedigree & even though we hav'nt seen him play, I reckon he will do well & having someone of his experience around the squad can only be a good thing. I think he will be a good signing, whichever position he plays. If he does'nt play midfield then we definately need another player in, I reckon a cheeky loan from a foreign club is the way forward, then we would only have to pay the wages & if we can negotiate a deal with an option to buy at the end of it, then we may be on a winner. God only knows who that loan player will be though???

Guest ErinBrown Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Hughesy, Sam has a message for you on Rovers player!!!

Good midfielders cost big money, we aint got none so we have to rely on those who have previously shown they are good midfielders.

True MGM, What Waggy needs to realise is that if you cant afford a car you need to get the bus! We cant afford a Midfielder so we need to adapt ala Warnock!
