47er Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Pavarotti used to be a goalie! As did Pope John Paul II! I can see why Pavarotti would be a very effective keeper!

BRFC1995 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 How old is rodwell? Very excited about jones who looks the real deal, but we must remember he hasn't really done much beyond what David wheater did at the beginning of his career. Let's give him time to make mistakes and see whether he learns from them. think wheater is just big and ugly looks like Steve Bruce, looks how a center half should look. Beyond that he can't even dream of having the composure jones is showing as an 18 year old....at this moment in the league table of the next big English thing he is way ahead of Rodwell and wilshire
AlanK Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 A great great prospect. Have to disagree Phil, we need to cut the lad some slack when not if he makes mistakes. They are inevitable. He is learning his trade at the highest level and in the public eye. The last thing he needs is us on his back. It drains confidence. John Terry was a whisker away from being sold by Chelsea to Huddersfield at one point. Lets not make the same mistake.
alexanders Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Nothing better than a local lad fighting for the club he loves! Phil Jones takes no prisoners!
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 It would explain why we were messing around with a 3-5-2/5-3-2 during pre-season. Sam clearly wants Phil to be getting experience under his belt by playing, but at the same time he wants to keep Samba and Nelsen happy. Whether or not playing a midfield role helps his development remains to be seen. He has good strength, great in the air and has pace so he could do a job there for now but his best position is a centre back without doubt.
DanLad Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 It's just occurred to me that with Jones at DMC Samba can now resume those forward runsd he used to make. They used to scare the hell out of the opposition. Jones can just sit back into the back four and we are less vulnerable to a counter. In fact, we'd still have N'Zonzi sitting in front of the back 4, as well. Could be a very useful trick.
