[Archived] Rebranding Ewood

The problem with the hotel is that with the exception of 19 home games a year it is going to be pretty empty. SOmething like at Bolton would be ideal, but we don't really have the location like they do - major motorway and major train line. There isn't much of a passing traffic running through Ewood and if for some reason people did want to stop in Blackburn then the Travelodge is closer to the motorway. I'm not saying that no-one would stop at a hotel at Ewood, but I just don't think there'd be huge demand at all.

The club could use it for other functions outside of the season. The blues bar continues to stay open after the season is finished. Debated before, but a train station would also benefit the club and the local area.

If that's true then that's horrible, because the cameras facing it make Ewood look awful.

I think you'll find the main reason for not moving the cameras is technology. The JW is fully equipped for modern media and communications. The Riverside is not.

You would only need to move the main camera, the commentators, press, etc could stay where they are, no?

Logically yes, practically unlikely when you think about all the gubbins that goes with modern technology. For a start you'd need a very long cable.

The model of the Riverside is still in the Boardroom and it is far too large for our club.

I would say the best action to take is - all blue seats and a spruce up but i do believe Venky's will sponsor it so it could be yellow and blue.

It is probably so far down the list that it is a dot!!!

However, i did see somebody last week measuring up round the home dugout. I can only think we are getting the Recaro Sport Seats - i couldn't ask as i was on the phone at the time.

In 1999, plans were put in and approved for a new Riverside. There is a model/artist impression of it in the Boardroom to this day.

We all know what happened in 1999, which meant we didn't go ahead with it.

It is a 2 tiered stand, but not in line with the others. The top tier hanging over part of the bottom. There is a hotel to the rear.

The reason Rovers can't/won't build in the corners (as per the original idea Jack had) is that experts advised it would be bad for the pitch. Most teams now play on a grass/artificial mix pitch. Look at all the trouble they have had with the Wembley surface.

The large open area at Rovers is also the emergency vehicle access point - it is wide enough to accommodate fire engines and ambulances in case of any disasters. Remember what happened not long before it was built. You will see ambulances parked up at the Darwen end/Riverside corner on a match day.

Personally, I love the Riverside and would be devastated to see it go. I certainly don't see any point in rebuilding just to make it look fancier, and increasing capacity is totally unnecessary at the moment. At the moment, there is a lot of discussion about safe standing being introduced. If this is passed, it would be the ideal opportunity for change, allowing us to once again be innovators. At the moment, its got character, and a great view. If you don't like it there are plenty of other seats, and surely you should be looking at the pitch, not the stand!

Not knocking the view, but it doesn't 'have character', it was only erected in 1990, the old Riverside had character, as did the Nuttall Street, the modern Riverside is just a badly designed shed.

It's possible then, that it was only ever intended to be a temporary stand?

The 2 corners of the Riverside could be filled in leaving the other 2 space for ambulances etc...

To be fair, it does add character... but to see the ground finished off somehow would be nice. The PNE idea is a good one as per my earlier post - no need for thousands of extra seats.

Local WIFI

I've always understood if a decent network is required cable us the solution. Wi Fi is pretty slow by comparison. I doubt it is suitable for HD TV.

Has anybody here been to the new Wembley?

I`ve been 4 times now (rock concerts)

The reason i`ve mentioned Wembley is because of the amazingly roomy seating. There`s tons of leg room & the seats aren`t crammed together like most other sporting stadiums.

If Rovers/Venkys do want to 'complete' Ewood Park, then why not build a bigger stand with quality seating & fantastic leg room. Obviously, punters can be charged a bit more for the luxury of stretching out a bit. I`m a big lad & tend to spill over the sides of my seat in the DE  lol A bigger seat might appeal to somebody like myself when i`m too old to stand & sing.

Why not incorporate a large disabled seating with disabled access (lifts & ramps) high up in the stand under the roof with an excellent view of the pitch? It could be the best in the whole league. You could even get a bit silly & incorporate car-fag-lighter style sockets for heating seats. Sounds a bit daft but anything is possible.

A new Riverside Stand could complete the 'look' of Ewood, but doesn`t need to have 10,000 seats in it. 5000 to 7000 seats of genuine quality & comfort might just well appeal to some of our fans.

Just a thought....

....what about a casino to go with the hotel in the new stand?

A casino would attract people to the ground & hotel 365days of the year, not just for 19 home games....thus generating money for the club.

I have no idea what Venky's are planning for the stadium, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they are thinking of it as the centrepiece/HQ of their uk company. They have said they would like to set up a factory (?) in the Blackburn area and provide employment for local people. Obviously this would not be at Ewood despite the claims of some!!! However Ewood already has some top class facilities, perhaps a new stand would/could incorporate further facilities and office space and indeed hotel facilities towards this cause. Of course, my scenario could be completely off the mark, but whatever they are planning it won't be a chicken shed!

Casino is a great shout. I know tonnes of lads who travel all the way to Bolton on a weekly basis just because there isn't one in Blackburn. It'd do steady business at the very least.

I'd love it if the Darwen end half of the Riverside was turned into a standing area. Premier league will wee on that bonfire though.
