Well I can only speak from my own point of view, but if I fancied staying in a posh hotel and I was earning let's say £10,000 per week minimum. Then I would stay in a posh hotel, say for £500 per night any time I fancied doing without waiting for someone else to pay, but would actually prefer to be at home with my family.

since I don't believe we actually have 2 players sitting in a hotel anywhere the comment was tongue in cheek

Wish Venky's would make the shortfall since Rhodes is staying. It won't/can't happen though and Lambert will have no money in the summer.

They would. I'm sure of it. But I don't think they're allowed to...

If we didnt vastly overpay rhodes, then he wou'd be a boro player by now. So we need to shoulder some of the blame

I'm afraid he doesn't have a point. Boro want the player, they can either pay him his rate (which they've known about and still courted him), negotiate it down, or swivel. They obviously don't want him enough if they won't pay him around what we do (maybe a bit more after bonuses), and a few million more than we paid for him (a few years down the line at that, after he's proven himself). It is in no way our fault that their eyes are bigger than their bellies, or that their chairman has suddenly developed schizophrenia.

Sums it up

Sorry, misunderstood your post.

Basically I wish Venky's would/could give us an extra £9m in the summer now Rhodes is staying, as Lambert may have relied on the transfer going through. It'll take money to sort the squad out.

I didn't phrase it very well.

Clubs whose eyes are bigger than their bellies! Has the smell of transfer embargo about it, that does.

Oh, wait a minute...

Wouldnt surprise me if another of Boros targets is now available, and at a much lower cost.

And? That -was- our fault, nobody denies that (all we would deny is how even-handed the rules are, and whether they should exist at all, but we knew about it and walked into it). Much like it will be Boro's fault when they enter it.

Fair point, blubruce. The jailers had the keys and let themselves out. Left us with a problem or two.

Boro do seem to be playing 'big club' in a high stakes game of promotion or bust.

Hope we won't get bullied into a low price for Rhodes now. I don't think it is all over yet.

I hardly see how our position on this has or needs to change

Some clubs do panic if they have a stroppy player sulking about not moving.

History tells us that Venkys don't get bullied into anything. Lambert doesn't seem Like the type either..

I wonder if Rhodes can speak Russian?

Because our manger doesn't rate him and has implied that he won't play him.

He has 3yrs on his contract. They don't need to do anything.

That makes no sense in response to my post.

Just looking at Calumn Macmanaman, hardly played for West Brom this season, played 250 minutes of league football and certainly doesn't seem to be in Pulis first team plans. Cheeky loan bid?

Injured I think Neal

Not injured, just not playing. Thought he would have been in the first team in the F.A. cup against Bristol but didn't even get a minute... Seems way out of favour.

So Boro get cold feet so we lower our demands how about we give them a couple of mil and pick up a portion of his wage to help them take him.

If anything we should charge them an extra mil for the inconvenience. Lower our fee I've never heard anything so ridiculous.

I'm expecting the Rhodes deal to happen.

guess that Rovers are talking to Rhodes's agent and Boro to get the deal done.

Would be happy with both of them

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BE HAPPY WITH MCGEADY AND NOT RHODES....you just happy with everything a manager says or is linked with...what has mcgeady done that you think you would be happy him playing for Rovers and why would you prefer him over RHODES???????

Seems apparent from Lambert's comments that there is no money available for transfers unless Rhodes is sold. Makes everyone's general assumption that there will be a huge war chest available in summer seem wildly optimistic.

If Rhodes were to go tomorrow a fresh bid from a Premier League side who can actually afford it of 12/13 m outright would be the least worst option. No fannying about with add ons we may never receive.

Still think it's madness to consider selling him now though and we're unlikely to ever get what we would like for him ever again whilst PL is manager in the wake of his comments.

Is it not that if we spend now it's back into the embargo whereas if we spend in summer the rules are relaxed + you can do your spending after a certain date like Boro and it's ok as it does not count till next time the accounts are due.
