Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 1, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted June 1, 2016 Infinitely preferable would be Corbyn and Abbot and that pathetic opportunist Burnham ? Nope. I don't know, between those sets of folk it's like choosing between a punch in the coin purse or in the head....

philipl Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 its like choosing oystons or venkys for a bbq Being greedy I would have both of them well charred covered with hot sauce... Very good point by Philip Stephens in the FT- he points out that the Brexit campaign is at risk in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland because it is the strident voice of English nationalism and not British nationalism.

Sounds like we need an English referendum in that case
joey_big_nose Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Sounds like we need an English referendum in that case I would say this is ultimately where it is heading. I wonder how long it will take for London to opt out of England?
yoda Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 I would say this is ultimately where it is heading. I wonder how long it will take for London to opt out of England? They can't, London is pro EU and inclusiveness, so the money men tell us. No problem if they do, the northwest economy is bigger than 15 EU countries on it's own. Lancashire should be running the country anyway as reward for winning the battle of the Roses.
jim mk2 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I would say this is ultimately where it is heading. I wonder how long it will take for London to opt out of England? Move the English parliament to Manchester, Leeds or wherever and cast London adrift. Good riddance - it's caused enough damage over the past 40 years.
philipl Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Move the English parliament to Manchester, Leeds or wherever and cast London adrift. Good riddance - it's caused enough damage over the past 40 years. To all practical extents and purposes London is a different world from the rest of the UK- far more different than say Manchester is from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Both London and the rest of the UK would be much better off in separate countries. Similarly Germany and the rest of Europe would be much better off without each other in the Euro as the German economy, finances and structures are so different. These arguments don't negate the factor that there are many aspects of sovereignty that for the European nation state (whether it is the UK as it is now or a series of micro-states in the future) are lost for ever. The only way to regain these powers is to pool sovereignty. This goes for defence (NATO), environment and the economy (EU). There is no way the UK on its own can take on global monopolies like Gazprom, Microsoft or Google nor could it but open the appalling truck makers cartel. But as part of the EU we have a very significant say in the only effective body challenging monopoly power in the world.

Agree with the first part of your sentence (about London) but I would imagine you are one of the first people to conclude that Glasgow and Edinburgh are similar......

Billinge End Blue Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 For how long do we tolerate these fools drunk with power.Drunk with power, obsessed with death Kate Hollern or whoever is NE Lancs Euro MP....I despise the political parasites, but surely we have to force change from within. Preserve our national identity but exert change from within the EU. A narrow remain, binning off the Tory shitesters, has to be the best option....All the economic 'Remain' arguments are at a big business level....the kick up the arse even at the extent of nasal loss facial injury could be worth it.....Tory tw*t turmoil, bring it on!

Kate Hollern is the MP for Blackburn not a Euro MP , as an aside I finally got a tenner off my Dad when she was elected as he accepted defeat in the "you can put a red rosette on a pig in Blackburn and it will still get elected" challenge
philipl Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 The UK has no chance of changing the EU after this, the Germans will walk all over us if we stay. Cameron in the firing line. To the contrary, it is wide open for the UK to become the primary voice in the EU.
jim mk2 Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 The UK has no chance of changing the EU after this, the Germans will walk all over us if we stay. Nonsense. Our hand will be stronger - especially if there is a clear Remain majority.
JAL Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 The UK has no chance of changing the EU after this, the Germans will walk all over us if we e. Based on what ?
yoda Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 To the contrary, it is wide open for the UK to become the primary voice in the EU. Don't think so, that is the German's role. Merkel gave Cameron nothing Nonsense. Our hand will be stronger - especially if there is a clear Remain majority. And if it is very close ? Based on what ? That the Germans and Especially the French don't like what we have done and will make us pay for it. If the EU survives that is
Steve Moss Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Based on what ? What concessions was Cameron able to get out of Merkel?
yoda Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 What concessions was Cameron able to get out of Merkel? Non, Null, Zilch, Nein, none
yoda Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 Are we going to see the UK use it's supposed "Veto" to stop China dumping cheap steel in Europe and save jobs ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-36446381
JAL Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 What concessions was Cameron able to get out of Merkel? Cameron stuffed her and her nation with the TTIP deal on behalf of Europe. Don't think so, that is the German's role. Merkel gave Cameron nothing And if it is very close ? That the Germans and Especially the French don't like what we have done and will make us pay for it. If the EU survives that is Do they allow many American organisations to avoid corporate tax whilst trading in their country fair play to the French for turning over whoever it was. We should be doing similar to the French in this regard.

JAL Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 You didn't answer any of the questions, are you thinking of going into politics ? First line reply is a key one yoda how do you read into it.
yoda Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 First line reply is a key one yoda how do you read into it. Cameron had nowt to do with it, it is German protesters that brought it into the public gaze, it is still in the EU/USA pipeline though so it's not dead and buried, even though it should be. It is a Bilderberg/Corporate America trade deal which will be detrimental to you and I Now back to the "Veto" question
