Jon Dahl Tomasson - no longer Sweden coach
booth replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
How does the Belgian and Swedish leagues compare? I don't have any idea. Two third place finishes in Belgium compared to two Swedish league winning finishes and a winning the round stages of a Champions League campaign. How does this translate to managing two clubs with massive rebuilding jobs before the league starts? No idea about that too! But it's more interesting than previous seasons for sure. -

He’s not greeting Gallagher as our number 9 striker, he’s greeting him as our only striker. Probably wondered where they all were. -

Be nice to have a manager that focuses on our strengths rather than obsessing over the oppositions. -
Of the recently appointed coaches ours looks the best of those four. As you say it’s now down to recruitment.

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

He’ll have more player knowledge than Scandinavia too. For example he coached Solanke at Vitesse. Hopefully he knows of some unearthed gems too. -

Yes, he will already know about the players out of contract and the Brereton situation. So I imagine he’ll be trying to get those positions filled asap. We will have a period of time where he’s getting to know the players that are staying, so I imagine some may end up out of favour as the year ends. Players like Pickering and Gallagher have a lot to prove. Ayala too. -

On paper, JDT wins. Let’s hope he does on the pitch. -

I’m seeing some praise from Burnley fans, so we must have a decent appointment for them ru be acknowledging it. Still a few halfwits asking who he is, when his managerial record is more impressive than Kompanys, both young and both have incredible cvs as players. -

He brought them two titles after a barren spell with an ageing team. That would equate to TM getting us promoted and consolidating in the PL. One met his targets, one didn’t. -

He was probably wondering why we didn’t have any. Just catching up with the interviews. Broughton and Tomasson look like they are a good team. Now we just need Venkys to support the vision. -

I don’t think they’d won anything for a few seasons, JDT turned up and delivered two title wins and champions league group success. I imagine they were pretty chuffed. -

It’s refreshing that he seems like he actually wants to be here, TM always had the demeanour of a man begrudgingly doing a favour. -

Then that’s a different story but I can’t see them not cashing in while they can. And we still need another striker whether he’s with us or not. -

Need alternatives for Brown, Ayala and Pickering in defence. Dolan, Hedges in midfield. And Gallagher upfront. As well as another striker for 442. -

The jealousy of PNE and Burnley fans is creeping out. I saw one post of a Burnley fan claiming JDT hasn't managed in England before. Two hours after Kompany was announced for them 🙄 PNE fans posting, who is he? PNE managers greatest footballing accomplishment? L1 runner up 🤣 🤣 🤣 -

Hopefully that means we're going to be signing some strikers 🙏 -

Not threadbare, just need to replace 3 first team defenders, two first team midfielders and buy in a couple of strikers (we needed a striker as well as Brereton last season, that's why it all went badly wrong). With the caveat that I have no idea where the new manager will play various players. We could get another Mowbray playing midfielders up front and attackers on the wing. -
Despite him continually painting himself as having a strong moral compass, he comes across as a bit of a shit throughout that interview. Not just at Rovers, but his own stories paint him as unprofessional at best and a negative influence on other players at worst.

You can guarantee that if we had it wouldn’t have merited a build up, announcement and video interview. But I remember when people ran the club quietly behind the scenes, and let the football do the talking. It’s just one more thing highlighting how far the club has fallen for me. We all know how these things end.

I can’t remember the last time I got excited about a suit being appointed at the club. Probably because I never have. But this takes us to the next level of discussing why the club has gone to shit, and making excuses for the owners, at a boardroom level. 2010 - we’re signing Ronaldinho. 2022 - here’s a bloke in a suit. Whoohoo!
