These are the worst team we played so far this season. Interesting to see how they perform now under Bruce.

I think the quality of opposition is the man reason. Players are faster, stronger have better first touches and are more clinical at this level compared to league 1. We conceded some soft goals in league 1 all the same, it's just that we had the firepower to counteract that. I include Mulgrew in the firepower.

Dragged Downing through half a season? You could say it was the other way round. Realistically we just weren't under the same pressure defensively last season and that glossed over the fact we had practically the same defense that we were relegated with. Have you actually watched Mulgrew defend this season? I think it's wide of the mark to assume we would still have gotten clean sheets in those games if he played. Lenihan and Rodwell looked good together. We played teams who were hardly world beaters when Mulgrew returned and didn't mange to keep clean sheets. Nobody is being too harsh on him, but what we see speaks for itself ,as do the stats. He ain't up to it defensively.

He had maybe two games this season where he was our best player. I def remember one in Hull and I think the West Brom game? It's not good enough to warrant being one of our highest paid players. A squad player, no more, to a team hoping to win promotion.

Interesting and damming of Mulgrew. I raised this a while back. You can see he isn't good enough in a back 4. He's not athletic or brave enough. No doubting his quality on the ball. Arguably our best player on the ball and undoubtedly our best set piece taker. Its a tough one, maybe being in a back 3 would help.

No doubt he did well Tuesday and was a good outlet for the pass, but I think he could get slaughtered defensively by a good winger and attacking side.

Wigan getting relegated would be a nice end to the season. Very hard to call. I still think we need 6 points just to be 100% comfortable. In the promotion chase 2 big clubs in villa and Wednesday peaking and we play both of them next. I would take 2 points right now. 3 be great.

Sounds like Graham will be rested, so Nuttall upfront I would imagine. Not sure if I would leave things the same then though as Graham was key last night, so perhaps something different required.
