Well, if you know people who get taxis and coffees then people really shouldn't be complaining about half ST prices. Good point, well made. And again, if it costs the price of a half ST for you to get to one game from Ireland then that totally proves something else and only adds to your argument. Not sure what that is like, but you've certainly opened my eyes? -

There is no end product with Palmer. -
Sour grapes. The ref actually had a good handle on their keepers antics and made sure he hurried him up probably more than he needed to. Their left-back got the same treatment off the ref. Of course it's frustrating when they slow down the tempo when we are trying to build up a head of steam but teams have always done that. We did the same last week against QPR as soon as we scored. My only gripe is that there is never enough time added on at the end of the game for all the stoppages for injuries.

Palmer? Behave, the guy's a show pony who again looked fairly average today. Lots of flicks and step-overs but nowt meaningful you could hang your hat on. He's the new Rochina. -

Fairly predictable Rovers performance at home against a team we were probably favourites to beat. It's a symptom of how Mowbray sets up. That's Reading, Millwall and now Rotherham where we've had a poor first half displays and then stepped it up second half. Tony must be sending them out first half with a warm Horlicks down them. Front foot Tony lad, we are supposed to take the game to the 'lesser' teams at Ewood. 2nd half much better. Graham missed his obligatory sitter (time to drop him at home?) early on and then we contrived to mess up every decent position we had. AA played well but his final ball on his left foot especially is pretty dreadful. Palmer flatters to deceive. Bell couldn't cross his legs. Bennett the same. In their defence though we rarely have anyone in the box so they are crossing to just Dack and/or Graham half the time. Piss easy for Rotherham's giants to defend against. However we did play some really good stuff at times up the edge of their box. Bell's defending for their goal was pathetic. His attempt to try and stop the cross was embarrassing. Half-arsed dangle of a foot. Pretty much sums him up half the time. Positives - Nyambe was superb when he came on - pace and power and he showed what we miss down the right when he's out. Lenihan was again immense. Rodwell showed a lot of composure. Brereton changed the game again when he came on, it makes a big difference having a big mobile striker up top. He put one fantastic ball in (as well as the one for the goal) that zipped head height across the 6 yard box but as usual there was no-one there, which happens far too often for it to be coincidence. Good to see Raya back. He had a very quiet afternoon. 2 points predictably dropped at home against a lesser light of the division. Credit to Rotherham though for grinding it out. I hope they stay up. -

Disagree. We rarely get more than a couple of players in the box unless we're losing. It's been an issue all this season and last season at times too. 5 goals from open play at home in 9 matches tells it's own story. -

They last won at Ewood in 1979. Coupon-busting meltdown to hit BRFCS and Mercer's online betting account at around 5pm? ? -

Rotherham will have been working on the same. At home this season we've scored 9 goals in 8 games - 3 from penalties, 2 from corners and only 4 from open play. Today will be the Battle of Little Bighoof. We will emerge victorious by a single goal. -

A fairly good assessment from Mowbray of where this team is. Like he says, we need to be at full throttle every week to win. I think what he is trying to point out is that we are winning because 'we got to war' every week. We are winning because have players like Lenihan, Smallwood, Evans and Bennett in the team. If we drop the likes of Smallwood for Rothwell, or Bennett for Palmer, then we would be in danger of losing the qualities that win us games. We play in a way that suits those players and have done for 12 months (pretty much when he ripped up his plans after the Oldham away game last season and went instead for a more pragmatic approach) . To suddenly start thinking we can put Rothwell and Palmer on the pitch and we'll be out-footballing the likes of Leeds is fantasy. We beat Leeds because we fought for every ball, closed the space and wore them down. We were able to do that because we had fighters in the team and Leeds couldn't hack it in the end. Like was said after the QPR game (when some less intelligent souls shouted 'negativity'!!! in response), we are a good team because we play to our strengths. Our strengths are playing percentages, staying solid with two hard-working CM's protecting the back four and who compete for every ball, getting it forward quickly to Graham to bring the likes of Dack into the game, or long diagonals to the likes of Armstrong. We play the most long-balls in the league. That isn't a coincidence. If you think Mowbray is suggesting he is suddenly going to start playing a more expansive game with Rothwell and Palmer spraying the ball around like Barcelona in their pomp then you're in for a shock IMO. He knows why we are winning and it isn't because we are a good footballing side. What he is saying is that at some point in the future he will need to find players with the hunger and fight of Smallwood and Bennett but with the technique of a Palmer or a Rothwell. If he can instil the former in the latter then he'll have some top players on his hands (Dack has the fight AND the skill IMO) but until then he has to play the players that will win enough games to keep Rovers progressing and him in a job long enough to 'evolve' the team. Until then we will have to continue to win 'ugly' if we want to win, especially at home. IMO his approach is spot on at the moment. Like at the beginning of last season, if it stops working he will be pragmatic enough to go back to the drawing board. Coyle, by contrast, would just continue to try and out-play the opposition without having the players capable of doing it. -

Not if you're operating on a tight budget. Affordability is always subjective anyway. One persons £179 bottle of red is another's monthly food shopping budget. -

It's Pounds Sterling, you can keep yer filthy Euro. ? It's 'great value' if you can afford it. -
Not sure about that. BB will be paid for over the length of his contract so we might only have spent £3m so far (or will do in Jan) and then the rest will be over the next 3 years. As Mowbray said he expects him to be worth a lot more in the future. That seems to be the gamble. The only way I can see it working is if he does so well that a Prem team comes in for him (or we get to the Prem with him). For reference, Patrick Bamford has just gone to Leeds for £7m and I think he's a very good player at Championship level. Gray went to Burnley for somewhere between £6m and £9m (depending on what you read) in their last Championship season. Price inflation doesn't really happen to a great extent in the Championship unless the player is sold to a Prem club.
-
I think that's the issue. We are massively in debt to Venky's so why are Venky's sanctioning a £7m deal for a kid who might not ever be better than Championship level? It's a tough one to figure out. Maybe this really is the start of a concerted effort by Venky's to 'invest' in players with the intention of selling them at a profit a year or two down the line. Maybe Waggott's and Mogga's remit when they went to India was 'here's £10m for transfers, turn it into £30m and/or get us promoted'. If this is now the transfer policy then it's a welcome change. Bowyer pursued a similar transfer policy and was very good at it , but they stupidly potted him. So far Mogga has bought a lot of young players so the transfer policy is obvious. Some work, some don't. It's just that it's gone from a freebies and a million here and there to £7m on a 19 year old. It all seems very Venky's. They'll probably give him nowt in January!

. They're very passive-aggressive in the marketing dept these days. Are you committed, well, are you, punk? -
Wrong about what, champ?
-
That would be Tony Mowbray you need to speak to about it. He thinks they work. Maybe concentrate on what they can do not what they can't.
-
Yet you keep responding to him and them.
-
We've been getting results with them in there for over 12 months. Rothwell gave the ball way in stupid areas on more than one occasion, once when he tried to play a one-two with Evans (who had moved forward) and lost the ball and left a huge gap in midfield for them to break. Mowbray quite rightly went mad. We were 1 up at the time.
-
...and then fell over and go a pen. Genius.?
-
How dare he be so negative after we've won?
-
Mowbray must be one of them and the match summarisers on Radio Lancs too. Everyone has said it was a dull game. That's being kind. Nobody has said they didn't enjoy the 3 points though. Give yer head a reality check.
