  1. Jason Lowe racked up a load of appearances coming out of our academy. That's not a great measure of quality for the argument. Don't necessarily disagree on your feelings about Nyambe though. He'd developed into a really solid defender for us after many years of frustration and I was disappointed that he left on a free (as I'm sure he is now). He had a lot of shortcomings though, especially in an attacking sense which has become a really important trait in modern day football for a full back.
  2. Both are blatantly better than L2. They'll have a great time this season.
  3. Would be a really clever move. Goes straight in when Ayala picks up an injury and he can also provide competition for RB. Think I'd like another striker after that. Then JPVH.
  4. Pickering was good prior to the hamstring injury he suffered (v Huddersfield?). Wasn't as sharp/good when he came back. He's had a full pre season under a new manager. Can we give it a couple of months before he's made the new scapegoat?
  5. Rothwell took a lot of our set pieces to be fair, so that figure is probably slightly inflated, compared to what you'd get from him in open play.
  6. Whilst I completely agree with your point, these sort of rumours (I.e. players you ideally don't want to leave leaving) tend to come to fruition compared to potentially amazing incomings.
  7. I don't think that list shows us up much to be honest. Looking at the ins and outs objectively, I'd say Luton, Boro, Preston, QPR, Sheff Utd, Stoke & West Brom have improved and mostly only marginally. Personally I think West Brom have done the best business bringing in Molumby, Wallace & Swift. They do look a keeper light with Johnstone gone though.
  8. Completely agree with you and all of your points. A couple of injuries and things start to look really desperate. We're in urgent need of a centre back, a centre midfielder and a striker in my opinion. Anything beyond that would be a bonus. We'll be starting the season on Saturday with less than what we need.
  9. I completely agree with the sentiment and the shopping list. We were saying the same thing last season and we ended up finishing 8th. Farce or not, the situation is recoverable. We just have to trust we have the right men in place to bring in the players we need. Important couple of weeks.
  10. Yeah I'd say so. But with the same amount of certainty, I'm sure we'll make signings in a few key positions before the window closes. The new set up were always going to be up against it straight away. The club never seem to act fast during the transfer window, whether that be due to ineptitude or poor internal structures. The recruitment process to bring them in took far too long, considering it would've been known that Mowbray was going. Plus GB & JDT have only really got a good look at the current squad last week and have had to reshape previous transfer target lists. It doesn't look good at the moment, but it was always going to take time for them to make changes. As they both said when they arrived, it's going to take a bit of patience.
  11. This team is a lot better than most of us are making out. I'm quite anxious about the lack of signings to date and us seemingly missing out on targets. But we'll be competitive in this league even with a few of a our better young players thrown into the squad. I'm sure we'll have strengthened before the window closes.
  12. I thought the same about Dack & Buckley. Tomasson literally looks through Buckley to engage with Travis behind him. Shockwaves through the squad already. Shape up or get gone.
  13. We're a better prospect than Malmo. He's been in the running for the Hibs job apparently. I'd like to think we'd be a more attractive move in comparison.
  14. Probably shows that it's fairly comparable with L1. So on that basis - for comparative terms - you could say he's managed a leading L1 side (e.g. Rotherham, Wigan, Peterborough), with some Europa League sprinkled in.
  15. From the very few times I watched them, they were dominant in possession and tried to get it out wide where they had lots of pace. Created lots of chances. Former Rover Marcus Antonsson was playing for them.
  16. Agreed. Just answering the question. I recall watching Malmo play a couple of times when he was there and they played with that formation. Like you say, any sensible manager will weigh up the resources they have before deciding on formations, tactics, team needs, etc.
  17. I bet the bookies are having a great time watching our next manager market play out.
  18. Not sure that's necessarily the case (them not being highly rated). Can't speak for Lowe, but from the conversation I had apparently Benson is highly rated behind the scenes and by other clubs/players. I was surprised but only really in comparison to some of the stick he gets on here.
  19. I think this has been fairly well established by other posters, but I heard from a good source yesterday that the incoming manager can bring an assistant with them but need to work with the existing coaching staff (Benson, Lowe, Johnson). Couple that with the DoF role not being filled before the manager role is, it's a weird way of doing business.
  20. A name that doesn't seem to have come up yet but is out of work. Jokanovic. Bit concerning that he was sacked by Sheff United most recently but he's got a decent record.
  21. I went to that game with a Plymouth fan and we both fumed about it, albeit not via social media.
