  1. Wow that selection is out of left field. Fair play Tony, that is a ballsy call and that team looks full of threat
  2. We need to stop worrying about the opposition and picking teams around stopping them. We need to look at our strengths and play to them and let them worry about us.
  3. Every player looks to be in their best position in that lineup though. No square pegs in rounds holes. Could argue bennett is better in centre mid maybe, but he would be the only one and he certainly has all the attributes to be a very good wing back
  4. I think thats whats holding mowbray back from changing. I think he knows if he changes to 3 at the back we will probably go backwards. Now it could be 1 step back to make 2 or 3 forward, or it could just be backwards.
  5. I think often in life and even more so on forums, people are either black or white on a subject. There is a whole bundle of grey in the middle where decent debate can be had
  6. This is what the fee does though. He gets judged differntly becasue of it. Happens at every club when big money is spent, even more so on strikers. Its the way of the world If he cost 350k then this thread would be on page 2 now and not page 17 and we'd all be saying nice things how he looks pacey and for 19 looks promosing
  7. I think if he really wanted chapman, then chapman would be here. We will never really know on that one He spent nearly 10 million on 2 strikers who are on the bench because graham plays upfront on his own. We have to many centre mids and 2 many numbers 10's and no width. I just think all that plus how he started his time at rovers points to a desire to play 3 at the back. If Im right his signings make sense to me and he just needs to crack on with it. If he doesnt then I think he has assembled a lobsided squad and spent a lot of cash on bench players and square pegs in round holes
  8. A lot of teams that play 3 at the back have success with full backs as the wider ones. We have mulgrew, lenihan, rodwell, williams, nyambe, downing. Im not sure 3 at the back in the aswer either, I just think TM wants to play it and his signings imo appear to back that up. If he doesnt then I question his signings and wonder what he is thinking
  9. The squad is lobsided for the formation we play If we dont change to 3 at the back then a lot of TM's signings appear strange and he has probably wasted a good chunk of cash. He needs to either switch to 3 at the back or abandon the idea and get in players in Jan that suit this 4-2-3-1 better.
  10. I always think this team forces TM's hand and the results they get stop hm doing what he really wants. I think ever since hes got the job he has wanted to play 3 at the back. Results in league one forced him to abandon it early on and we went on such a run he couldnt dare change it. Again this year I think he wanted to go 3 at the back again but felt he couldnt change from last year. Every signing he makes seems like its made with 3 at the back in mind. Everytime a game is going badly he instantly chnages to 3 at the back. I think he is just itching to do it but cant seem to bring himself to take the gamble and risk the backlash when there is so much good will around the club We have no wide players, loads of centre mids, loads of number 10's and almost 10million tied up on the bench in 2 strikers who cant get a game with Graham up front on his own. For me 3 at the back seems the only way to get the best out of the players he has signed
  11. Pragmatic starting eleven play pragmatic football. We are so reliant on graham and dack to give a bit of magic playing this way. We look like a team thats afraid to lose. Need to take the handbrake off in this 2nd half
  12. Not sure if it points to the wrong starting 11, or a really strong squad. But the bench looks really good for us these days
  13. It is to early to judge, but worringly nothing I have seen so far screams 7 million to me. I guess I just judged him early. ? In mowbray I trust, so we will see I guess
  14. The ref has a had a shocker, but we need to stop blaming the refs. Its the cheating players at fault. The ref is human and makes mistakes.
  15. This is the mess we are in now. There is contact so its a pen. We have let things get slowly worse and worse and now the game is pathetic. Its a dive plain and simple.
  16. Aaarrggghh so frustrating. Not seen the goals back but their 2nd pen looked a blatant dive. Also cant believe amra wasted that golden chance to finish it by losing a yard or 2 looking at the linesman for no reason. Just get your head down and run ffs
  17. The last 15mins was mental, but it shouldnt detract from what was a ruthless first 75. Great energy, workrate and controlled agression.
  18. Dear god, from sublime to the ridiculous to the OMFG aaaarrrgggghhhhh..............and breathe
  19. Next goal is huge. We get thats is all over and party time
  20. This team has its faults, but workrate and desire isnt one. Tremendous effort they show every week
  21. Our over reliance on Graham is for 2 reasons really. One is he really good and what he does. He has a ton of experience and he uses it really well. So many tricks of the trade he has aquired over the years, with little nudges here and there to buy a yard The 2nd is where we need to improve. We struggle to pass through the lines effectivley. Evans and smallwood are limited with their passing and cant play on the half turn and take the ball in traffic. As a result we are to predictable most of the time and are forced to go direct to Graham to get Dack in the game in the final third. I we could improve on evans and smallwood, players like armstrong and bereton would be way more effective. We saw it in the game against carlise where we passed through the lines a lot better how effecive armstrong and dack can be. This was obviously lesser opposition making it easier. The flip sides of that are the players that gave us that going forward left us wide open at times going the other way. Thats the trouble at this level, players tend to be good at one and not the other. The complete midfield players that are great both ways are playing in the premier league. Hopefully some of these players like reed and davenport can step up and give us a lift in that area. If they do we take a step up imo and become less reliant on DG. Until then he is key to everything we do
  22. But whittingham only singed here becasue it was a 2 year deal. Without that 2nd year he would probably have gone elsewhere. Obviosuly with hindsight who cares, but at the time it looked a good signing and everyone seemed pretty happy with the deal. It didnt work out, we got burned a bit, but thats football. Every signing is a risk one way or another
