  1. That sounds like Mario's in Bacup Gav!
  2. Did anyone ever go to a place called 'The Dining Room' in Rossendale? Unfortunately it shut about 6/7 years ago (because it was in Rossendale!) The food was nothing short of amazing and it was really well priced.
  3. I remember the name but without being harsh, don't remember him as a player of any note. I think it was in the era of David McNamee, Burton O'brien and Robbie Doyle etc. Also, Jon Walters...who was also class!
  4. Ah right, they were all the same era so could well be pals. There were a lot of good young players at Rovers at that time and it is surprising who has made it and who has totally disappeared off the face of the Earth. You hear a name (like someone mentioned James Thomas) and you think back to how good they were. I am surprised that he never made it, but then again, I remember the first time that Jermaine Defoe turned up at Ewood and he was as good a young player as I had ever seen. Head and shoulders better than what we had at that time. He was frightening.
  5. He went to Barnsley and things fizzled out, ended up coaching at Accrington I think. He was a centre back/left back but he was tiny. No word of a lie, those boots were minute! They blistered me like hell but they were top quality and Uhlsport were a top brand back then so I persevered with them for a few games.
  6. James Thomas was brilliant. He was only small but I was sure he would make it but as you say, only featured in the lower leagues. I was a regular watching reserve team football back then when we used to play at Springfield park and Preston. Duff, Dunn and Johnson would sit beside us in the stands scoffing pies when they weren't playing!!! I also inherited a pair of Keith Brown's boots. Size 8 Uhlsport's - they were worth abot £100 back in the day but were as tight as hell so I gave them away!
  7. Damien Duff is one of a handful of truly world class footballers that I have witnessed in our shirt. He was brilliant, amazing, enthralling and an absolute joy. When he picked the ball up, he made something happen. A privilege of the highest order. Nobody has come anywhere close since.

    Howard Kendall

Sad news, he was before my time but it's a shame that these true Rovers' greats never make it back to Ewood to do the draw or say a few words at half time like they used to. Fine, little details that mean so much to fans that crave one last applause for those who gave us such fond memories.
  9. Haha, yeah he got sent off for being punched! Unbelievable decision.
  10. Not true. He got a pay rise first time he complained.
  11. I am talking about Givet.
  12. I don't know if it has been mentioned previously but Berg was sacked the other day from Legia Warsaw
  13. He kicked off under Sam, in the good old days before Kean. Didn't he even get skanked off a shop worker for 50k who picked him up from the airport or something strange?? Decent player, but alas, a money oriented, boat rocker. Samba too kicked up a fuss when he wanted a pay rise, so let's not kid ourselves that the players were angelic, fight for the badge types before egg head tipped up. We've always paid very well and often been held to ransom - the true gents, settled players and hardest workers are few and far between...and Ewood's finest chavs tend to boo those.
  14. I saw it that, like Samba, he was a boat rocker who would go on strike if he wanted more money - no matter who was manager. Good player, terrible attitude.
  15. Like Clarke Kent and Superman, neither are at the same place at the same time ☺ It's all a bit of fun but there is no way on Earth the pirate is a newbie but it's a welcome distraction - even if pirate talk quickly wears thin.
  16. I'm torn between the two...and leaning towards Gav ☺
  17. Why is calling you Gordon an insult? He's an alright fella to be honest. Before the takeover he warned us about what was going to happen when we sold to the Venkys and he was right.
  18. Hmmm I'm out by a few months. Someone so pedantic must be Gordon ☺
  19. He played in the Uefa cup final, more than we've achieved in 14 years.
  20. Kalanic has banged in two goals for Fiorentina against Inter (only half an hour gone). He's one who has gone on to better things.
  21. I don't support a team purely to win trophies, I support them to compete and give their all. Boy did we ruffle some feathers during the Souness, Hughes and Big Sam eras. Sadly, we don't step on that pitch anymore believing we will win or ever giving 100%. A team are often a reflection of their manager, unfortunately we aren't full of fight and grit and we are just nicey, nicey pushovers. I miss the days when their was a team of battlers on the pitch.
  22. Can't include Enckleman. He's the only Rovers player to appear in an FA Cup final for 55 years😀
  23. Definitely budget cuts. I'm pretty sure Rover Vision was made by CreaTV (Alan Yardley's company) and the level of staff involved must be far less as they had a close up cameraman and a wide angle cameraman in the gantry, plus studio cameramen. The footage taken was used on MOTD etc and I expect that contract would have paid quite a bit and would help provide a slicker production like when Graham Liver used to present it. Re the current radio programme, I quite like the views of Neil Yardley though, much better than Gerald who's backside must have been a fire hazard with the amount of splinters he must have picked up sitting on the fence for twenty years. People need to bear in mind, you can't bite the hand that feeds you too hard but you can tell Neil doesn't buy GB'S excuses - but he is a proper Rovers fan.
  24. That is exactly what the problem is and midtable and relegation is a fine line. Get off to a torrid start and the players lack the fear of losing and are toothless. Bowyer and his team seem to want to stumble across results, rather than pummel the opposition from the word go. It's all well and good inviting the opposition onto to you if you are well drilled and permanently switched on, we simply aren't.
  25. I read some time ago that one of his team mates witnessed Armstrong having a blood transfusion during the Tour de France. I think that the "evidence" will be released very soon.
