Some thoughts: We aren't playing how JDT layed out at the start of the season We didn't play with any noticeable style yesterday at all. No balance between midfield and defence. If we are in fact trying to play short passing through the middle then we might need Wharton in for Travis. I gave Mowbray pelters for continually playing gally on the wing. JDT continues to play gally there and worse he played hirst there who is even less suitable Mortons last two games have highlighted the benefits and drawbacks of taking a prime Premier league youngster Szmodics to me seems like the attacking midfield version of Jordan Rhodes, can't do anything until he gets the ball around the box, doesn't pass the eye test. We play narrow which must contribute to the ponderous play at the back. When BBD pulled wide towards the end he opened that channel up between rb and cb. If we can sell Brereton in January then the team will be in big trouble. I won't pay money to watch us away from home again for a while. -

What I don't quite understand is JDT keeps coming out and criticising the tempo and the way we are passing out from the back. Yet we continue to play in this way. There is no obvious advantage to what we are doing at the moment but yet there is quite a lot of downside. I remember watching arsenal away at Liverpool last season, and their passing put from the back against a Liverpool press was equally suicidal and they got hammered. Arteta and the players refused to change tact and afterwards arteta basically said they've got to get used to playing this way. It works for them a lot more now as they stuck through a rocky patch. I also note that all the top teams in the world pretty much pass out from the back. Does this mean we can be successful playing this way? I remain unconvinced. If we don't get better at it soon then we are going to throw away more points like last night and frankly it makes for a pretty hard watch. -

On Buckley, I was keen on his move to cm before the season started but he hasn't looked comfortable there thus far. I would consider him and dack for the 10 slot. Then bring back a.wharton to challenge morton for the other cm slot. Szmodics I'd bin off completely. -

Fair play to Pickering I've given him some stick recently but he played well tonight. Similarly dolan imotessed tonight and has stepped up with another assist after going through a period of stagnation. Carter is a player and good back up for Brittain. I'm very happy with the 4 Centre half's we've got. -

Looks like there's a good chance now that it will be on Upto the individual bodies to choose, rugby league and I think Union going ahead too on Saturday. Cricket likely to resume on Saturday too. -

Just don't think the two are interlinked personally. Nobody is saying that the death of the monarch is less important than a football game its just that one happening on a Thursday should have any baring on some of the mass entertainment on a Saturday. There might be a need for police redeployment but that's largely limited to London area. As I said earlier, pubs won't shut, clubs won't shut, shops won't shut, TV won't stop. Why some sport? Theirs criticism of the desire to gets game on yet nobody seems offer a reason as to why or how it shows respect. -

Okay so how does cancelling Saturdays fixtures two days afterwards affect that? I don't get the link i really don't. Pubs and clubs won't shut, shops will stay open but the football must stop? Why? Feels like its assumed that it should just to mark how significant the event is. -

The more I think about it the more that it frustrates me. I just don't get what the point is. -

Efl to discuss with the government tomorrow. With the stoppages due to covid and the fixture pile up as it is they've really got to play these games. United playing at home as I type. Less than 2 hours after he death was announced. Surely that sets a precedent here, if they don't call that off then why should they cancel Saturdays games. Also notice how the golf and the cricket have only suspended play for tomorrow at the moment. -

Football carried on after the death of the previous monarch. I personally don't see any reason why games shouldn't go ahead as normal. -

If not right back then where would you play him? I've seen left wing suggested as his best role coming up but then you look at his skillet and his performances when played in attacking roles before and sense there isn't enough ability to break defences down at this level or pace to hurt anyone. Think he'd be a long way off dolan if he played there and he'd be long long long way off what Brereton offers there. My best suggestion for him would be to find his position in league one. Making sure he goes somewhere where he is likely to get game time. I thought perhaps he could work as a wide/attacking cm in 3. -

Kaminski is a good championship keeper for me (albeit not perfect). Gallagher is useful if used correctly (through the middle in a front 2, not likely to happen soon) he's got a few goals in him at this level. Travis has been decent in cm let's not rewrite based on current form at right back. I think there's a player in Carter. Pickering, edun, JRC, Vale agreed. None of them should be regularly getting game time. -

He was hopeless today but I'm not going to write him based on one very poor game out of position. Thought we could've used him in midfield today with one of the youngsters. -
Respectfully I completely disagree. His performances in some of those clean sheets wasn't exactly convincing either. Positionally, in possession and coming for crosses he makes me slextremely nervous. Don't forget games like Reading at home in the lockdown season. He's a howler machine. I can't think of a worse 2nd choice goalkeeper we've had so I'd like to know who he's better than?

I'm not sure Styles has ever really played left back. Not sure why people keep suggesting that would be the primary position for him. -

Pleased with the performance tonight which built on a decent second half vs stoke on Saturday. Sluggish start but once we scored we really settled into a rhythm and looked good. We pressed well, created more chances than we have been doing and really should've buried them, I thought grimshaw in their goal made 2 really good saves which helped keep them in it. However they could quite easily have nicked one at the end which would've been partly self inflicted. Performance wise thought Carter, until his tug of war with Yates at the end, had a good game, he mobile, strong and technically sound. Morton impressed again. Dack proving that he needed to be persevered with, sprinkles of quality including the goal but looks to be contributing more off the ball. Hyam looks like a astute transfer already, a real steady eddy, very solid. Oh yeah and Adam Wharton was every bit as good as everyone is saying. It's hyperbole, he was that good tonight. -

He doesn't offer nothing. Doing a great job off the ball. In possession he's offered nothing but be fair to the lad.
