  1. Ambition in football is money. Without Jacks dream or cash, he wouldn’t have come. Point missed? As in comparing / expecting the club to go out and get one of the best managers in the country? I know that he is talking about choosing someone and just employing them rather than interviewing, but it’s hardly a scandal to have such a process. If being told the truth that we aren’t anywhere near that level, is winding you up, then I suggest you get a grip. That doesn’t mean this process couldn’t be better, it doesn’t mean that the club is achieving its “maximum” and it doesn’t mean I believe we cannot compete in the championship for promotion. The idea that cost is irrelevant is ridiculous.
  2. I personally just think he makes it up. 10 years of “wee” titbits and I can’t recall a single time one of his predictions has come true.
  3. The contrast you seemingly can’t see is the difference between our club and football as a whole between now and then. Kenny wouldn’t have come without top tier wages or guarantees on spending. I’ll wait for you to explain how it is possible to invest the modern day equivalent, similar Liverpool or City, to go out and get one of the best managers in the country, promise them huge numbers / wages, with FFP and turnover that doesn’t even cover half our current wage bill.
  4. Quite sure there was an application process for that one, Hughes hadn’t even managed in club football at that point, and he’d played for us 12 months before.
  5. Doesn’t exactly help dispel the “they still think it’s 95” nonsense when you’re asking questions like that.
  6. My favourites of recent times, the Mulgrew and Danny Graham ones. The Craig Conway one with punching Calzaghe is also brilliant I think there is a Chris brown quote in one of those about “they still think it’s 95” and plenty on the stuff about the team preferring to play away at that time.
  7. @JHRover and your credentials as CEO for a football club are? Personally would rather see a head coach decide who he is working with, and I always take LET with a pinch of salt anyway.
  8. As hard as it is to accept - our league position is due to 46 games not pre and post Christmas. Out performed with a bigger budget, wage bill, inherited squad and still only managed a 1 point gap. A “top manager”…? Sounds like the opposite of sour grapes to me JHR. I find it incredulous that you can swivel from calling ours a rip off and theirs a good deal, purely down to this and the local geography. Each to their own.
  9. I can’t remember you waxing lyrical about Kamiski’s distribution at Copenhagen? Whilst you’re welcome to this view, to me it simply sounds like an opinion created to enforce another. The caveat of Raya getting worse is utterly laughable since he’s essentially now an established premier league player with an international cap.
  10. Have to agree Gav, the only place you’ll here specific backroom coaches being dogged is BRFCS. Make of that what you will!
  11. Corberan and Carvahal are Chalk and Cheese! Not a sentence I thought I’d ever write. Anyway, the point; my knowledge and experience of Carlos during his Sheffield reign was a underachieving, this directly from Sheffield Wednesday fans, who also pointed out countless dodgy deals, ridiculous contract lengths, pay offs and the steady malaise that followed his reign, ultimately caused of a dodgy foreign owner in chansiri. Sound familiar? Its got nothing to do with foreign or not, I’d be well happy with Farke, or even someone of Warners ilk - but Carlos, who set it up so Sheffield Wednesday had their shirts made by his own company, is exactly the sort of agent riddled, 19 clubs in 21 years level jobsworth, I would rather not see at our club. Each to their own of course.
  12. The free agent market this summer is chock full of talent. Some of it our own! https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/endendevertraege
  13. Absolutely, and his penchant for spending big money to achieve nothing in England will probably put him off our job anyway. Id rather Johnson took over than Carlos the T-shirt salesman.
  14. There was an athletic article last week that suggested it was Waggott who wouldn’t sanction the sale, not the owners.
  15. I meant really that the promotions and achievements mean he’s done the same as those two managers. I am aware of Hughtons pedigree - I would probably feel exactly the same as you about his potential. Would prefer someone a bit more imaginative however but it’s easy to say, Mark Hughes was the last time we had any luck with a new or less established manager, and I can’t see this ownership vacuum getting any better at making those decisions.
  16. You’re more than welcome to that opinion, aka TM not giving a shit but I couldn’t disagree more. I personally think he isn’t good enough to achieve our expectations, not savvy enough, not tactically inept but not creative enough, and unable to consistently motivate a team that’s evidently good enough to finish top 6. As @aletheia eloquently points out - there are ample examples of this team being mismanaged due to poor decisions, but I still find it difficult to see how this falls at the door of effort. Before TM, I remember plenty of occasions where our team simply didn’t give a shit. Hopefully we’re not going back down this avenue!
  17. Ayala has to go down as one of Tony’s biggest ever fuck ups. Biggest wage in the club for someone who has hardly played. On his day, a fantastic defender at this level, but unfortunately someone who picks and chooses his “days”
  18. Nothing to do with effort or trying that though, and whilst I agree that this was stupid decision, it came during a period Dolan, Gallagher, Brereton and Khadra had injuries. Lack of nous, lack of inspiration, lack of ownership support… but effort? Can’t agree. This is part of the reason why I’m not going full “roverandout” in my celebrations on TM leaving. I remember rovers teams in the last 12 years who literally didn’t give a fuck, and certainly didn’t “try”.
  19. Brown, Markanday, Zeefuik and Giles. I genuinely thought they’d bring more at the time but captain hindsight has proven me utterly wrong.
  20. I think whoever sanctioned the Markandy and Zeefuik deals probably thought they’d make a lot more of an impact. Also I don’t recall Bournemouth, Fulham or many of the other teams in the top 6 missing key players (like Mitrovic / Solanke) for huge periods either. None of our issues fall under the remit of “effort” in my humble opinion.
