[Archived] Match review: Rovers 4 Man City 2
Ozz replied to rover6's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
If I could be arsed, I would go up into the loft and get my 1985 scrapbook out.(Sorry Bob F.) Maybe next week. However, I remember that season when we ultimately missed out on promotion (Some wags used to refer to it as our annual fight against promotion) , the home game with City was a major turning point. It was around March time, and came fairly soon after our home defeat on a Friday night FA cup match to Man Utd (0-2). Our form was begining to wobble (as usual) and City were amongst our main promotion rivals, along with Portsmouth and Oxford I think. Me and a couple of City fans were in the Wine Lodge at midday, supping like camels and became pished fairly quickly. Then the seemingly monster walk to Ewood, (my legs were only little then) completed, I went into the Blackburn End with my bus ticket-style season ticket and was amazed to find the gound virtually empty. Then I realsied that my watch was wrong and it was ten to two, not tento three. So I spent the time waiting for the kick off by climbing on the railings and shouting anti-City chants to my mate(Beefy) in the Darwen End, who of course yelled his back. After about 5 minutes of this hilarious exchange, a steward advised me to desist or face being lobbed out of the ground. So I just sat on the BBE terrace for an hour reading my program front toback 7 times, (They weren't very big then). The game started, but I find it impossible to remember the details, other the Steve Kinsey tapping in a rebound off Gennoes legs at the near post in the BBE. Cue sporadic fighting around the ground, including the Riverside and the bottom of the BBE near me. After the game, as I walked over to Livesey Branch Road to get on my Tom Jackson coach back to Chorley, a wave of mental City fans, all of whom wore big sheepskin coats came running and attacking Rovers fans. I legged it into the WMC club and hid for 10 for minutes round the back until they had all gone! Ironically, 20 odd years later, the thing I remember most was the attendance! The ground was absolutely rammed full, the capacity was around 30,000 then and they printed it as 22,000. (Cue everyone saying TAX DODGE!) More senile ramblings to follow through the season as I eventually find my scrapbook. As for Saturday, revenge will be in the air, as Rovers will win 2-1 -

[Archived] Rovers Uefa Cup Coverage?

I watched an hour of Eurosport UK from ten last night assuming that they would show at least Rovers goals. Alas no. I am not interested in bit torrents or SamTorrance or other hi-tec mediums, I just would like to see my teams goals on my telly. In a era when the whole country agrees that there is wall to wall satuarated football on telly, why can I not see last nights. As an aside, Norwegian members, how come there were only about 100 people on the IK Start v Ajax game? -
I can't beleive how bad I feel after Rovers got a very good result in Salzburg. 2-2 and I'm gutted. These lot are no mugs, and yet we should have beaten them! Rovers are back!

From what I have read in the media, Mr Hughes is pretty keen to do well in this competition. From the official site-Rovers Site "We worked extremely hard to get in the competition," said Hughes. "So we plan to make the most of it." Rovers manager continues... "The aim is to get the club involved in this competition year-in, year-out, so we are pleased to be in it. We want to make sure the adventure lasts as long as possible. "I have sensed excitement in the players; there has been a good feeling about the training, everybody is looking forward to it." An away goal is the first priorty, then a clean sheet, then avoid defeat, then win. 1-1 to Rovers.

Reckon it will 2-0 to Rovers, Atkins and Hendry, both from corners. Hope Wright and Bright are suspended?

If they were supposed to Blackburn in disguise, you'd think that they would have at least worn blue and white halved shirts. Poor effort really.

Bentley should make the RH wide position is own. He played well V Everton and was subbed in my opinion at the wrong time. Did OK again yesterday, and is too easily dispossessed to play in the middle. -

Deuchars IPA in The Rutland was the highlight. Plus jipping the trains out of £5.85. Chorley to Sheffield £23.80 Chorley to Manchester duo, £4.75 each, Piccadily to Sheffield £13.20. Total £17.95. Saving £5.85! -
Somebody forgot to tell Simon Garner then.

Check out these stats on SKY sports site. We are better in every dept., including fouls and cards. SKY Stats near the bottom of the page. My prediction is SUFC 0 ROVERS 1 -
No. It is a dump. And yes we are.

There was a huge sign on the front of Parklands High School in Chorley, A BEACON SCHOOL. One night someone knicked the E. It's not kosher.

Seems like a few Rovers fans are going to make the journey over t'Pennines. A small group of us from Chorley are going on the train, via Manchester. I am informed that Stalybridge railway station has a decent eating/drinking dept, anyone know for sure? The pricing at £26 plus the student options, plus the lack of game last week plus it is the first really do-able away trip of this season should see a good turnout for the lads. -
The most obvious song for the guy is Help Me Rhonda by The Beach Boys. All you would have to do is whenever the word "Rhonda" would normally be sung, replace it with the surname of our player, IE Nonda. Then the last line of the chorus, would be "Help me Nonda yea, go and score us a goal."
