  1. I'm not sure that Neill will extend his contract. IMO JW has left it too late for a player who is likely to be in some demand. Likewise with Reid and Emerton (altough the latter would be no loss) not to mention MH. Seems to me JW stalled until a place in next season's Prem was assured. This ultra-cautious approach will have backfired if some (or Heaven forbid) all of these extensions don't happen.
  2. Rovers are put at a big disadvantage by having 24 hours less before the Brum game. Its time Liverpool got over it - I don't recall Celtic/Rangers making the day of the Ibrox disaster a non-playing day nor Bradford City for the fire.
  3. In truth the Walker Trustees have far more pressing financial matters than the sale of BRFC. They are trying to flog Flybe which is a far bigger business. For example it is investing £500m in new aircraft over the next 3 years. The Trustees are scared that as a low-cost airline it may easily go bust. Indeed Michael O'Leary , boss of Ryanair, last year predicted that both Flybe and BMi would go to the wall as they are squeezed out of the low cost market. At present BRFC is washing its face financially and the loss referred to is simply an accounting write-down of player values and not a cash outflow. The player value amortisation is a meaningless figure only required to enable quoted fottball clubs such as MUFC to satisfy Stock Exchange accounting regs. The operating loss is the meaningful figure. Mihir Bose is known to be a Spurs fan so this is just a bit of pre-match ######-stirring.
  4. I distinctly remember Dahlin was discarded by Roma because he was deemed unfit and a back problem caused him to miss the start of the 97/98 season so I don't see hoe Rovers can win the case on the facts.
  5. Calm down. Everton under Moyes are like Bolton - thrive on adversity. Rovers made nothing of a weakened Bolton team last month and will do no better at Everton.
  6. Contract expires May 2007. Rovers will accept any reasonable offer (say £1m) this summer. Bring in Lawrence from Sunderland.
  7. The opertaing profit of £1m would have included the compensation received for Sourness and his team so the actual recurring figure is a small loss.
  8. Team selection was questionable. Moekoena had a shocker. No ball control, could not get in the game and lost possession in dangerous areas sevaral times including for the killer 4th goal. Why was Reid not in the middle and Emerton on the right? He must be on his way out this summer if that's what Hughes thinks of him. Judging by Johnson's powder puff cameo appearance Heaven help us if this is the fare for the remainder of the season.
  9. Last night made it all too apparent that Kuqi has the ball control of a brick wall and the vision of a bat. If the club take up their option of a further year at the end of this season it will be a huge mistake.
  10. Although Bentley is talented with the ball at his feet and probably is a star turn in 5-a-sides he lacks both the physique and positional sense to cope on tyhe Prem. He wastes a large amount of possession and rarely plays a telling pass. He may have ambitions to follow Bergkamp but dream on. Kuqi provides far more problems for the opposition as he proves time afetr time coming on to rescue a result.
  11. In April 2003 nearly 28,000 attendance for Charlton although I recall there were concessions. How can 10K "supporters" go missing?
  12. Lucien Mettomo was almost a £2.5m signing but failed the medical. Berg came instead. Probably the difference between promotion and not.
  13. Will we score a goal beforte he returns?
  14. The main reason Kuqi was signed is that he was dirt cheap - no fee and a payment by results - so not much due so far. Same with Jansen new contract. Basically the owners of the club have said you can have Prem striker - Bellamy - and that's it. Championship here we come.
  15. Why is Moekena not playing instead of the lumbering Flitcroft? He is not remorely close to the player he was 7 years ago . A complete waste of space. As for Kuqi it beggars belief he was signed insread of Andy Cole. I suppose it was the wages which just reinforces my point (in another thread) that the people who own this cub only have an ambition to wind it down (or sell it). Just like the airline Flybe they're trying to flog off. Seems they just want an easy life collecting rents from commercial property.
  16. Very bad news indeed for the smaller clubs in the Prem as Glazer will sell TV rights independently and the sale of rights for other clubs particularly those with only local support will plummet. Rovers would be lucky to raise ?1m from a sale of its own rights - compared to ?25m under the Sky deal. Stop celebrating.
  17. Utterly disgraceful attendance figure - just over 20,000 of which more than 2,00 from visitors. Why is the support haemoraging to this extent in (1) a crucial fixture and (2) a week away from an FA Cup semi. The same fixture 2 years ago attracted 5,000 more - and fewer from Soton.
  18. IMO this relegation battle is far from won. Defeat at Old Trafford (almost certain) defeat at home to Soton (quite possible ) a blank weekend (cup semis) when others are playing and Rovers could very easily be in or perched just above the bottom 3 when they play Palace - and only 3 days after a tiring semi. Only one fit stiker of any consequence - Stead. Forget the unlikely Cup glory and get real.
  19. Thompson out with swollen knee (again) suggests his playing days are over for this season and probably well beyond.
  20. Tommo - fluid on the knee. Sadly sounds like curtains on his career. The injury for which he had last chance surgery was a wear/tear type for which fluid is a classic symptom. Jansen I suspect has also not recovered from cartilege surgery. Add on the absence of Bothroyd for remainder of season and the weekly battle to put Sav/Dickov on the field because of what sounds like hernias requiring surgery and Rovers have more than just an embryonic injury crisis. Lose the home games to Soton and Palace...relegation beckons.
  21. The injury legacy of the match is not unhelpful. Bothroyd out for season. Hardly a disaster. Has he done anything positive apart from score a tap-in against Pool? At least Stead might make it to the bench. Reid or even Thompson for Emerton hardly weakens the team. At least Reid moves forwards.
  22. "The biggest derby in Germany is in Borussia" - tosspot presenter on Talksport (can't remember his name).
  23. The more I hear from the previously invisible captain the more risible he appears. Instead of comparing the Glasgow matches he might like to comment on epic mismatches such as Rangers v Dunfermline, Dundee, Partick Thistle, Motherwell, Inverness Cal.......oh ###### I'm bored already. Nobody with a brain could believe any of those is bigger than any single match-up in the EPL. Look at the teams! Not a single recognisable name except for the occasional reject from Rotherham or Doncaster. I thought he slipped back to Jockland for family reasons. Obviously I gave him more credit than he deserves.
