Not as long as Venky's are around. -
Would you sign Christian Walton
DE. replied to Prelude's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I wouldn't be unhappy with signing Walton as a competitive no2, but I think we can do a lot better for the no1 spot. A good no1 with Walton as no2 would be decent enough, although whether Walton would realistically sign as our no2 is another question entirely. -
In fairness we played pretty well against various PL teams in the cup under GB, but were still underwhelming in the league. Easy to get motivated for a one off game against a big team, much harder to do so for the mundane grind of the league.

4 wins in 20 games for Ipswich now I believe, so yeah, Lambo not exactly endearing himself to the Ipswich faithful. Say what you will about Mowbray but after a shaky start he had no problem getting us straight out of League 1, and I think it was tougher then than it is now.

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/18228187.it-wasnt-happening---mowbray-game-changing-double-switch/ For once comments from the manager I pretty much completely agree with (although I would have liked to know the logic behind starting Downing and Bennett on their opposite sides). Even praise for Rothwell in there!

Wouldn't surprise me if he walked before the season ends if this form continues tbh, especially if they're in danger of dropping out of the top six entirely. From the position they were in it's truly remarkable.

The main thing that pleased me from tonight's result is that we actually picked up a win after a couple of disappointing results. I have to admit after 70 minutes I was fearful we were about to enter another death spiral, as failing to beat this Hull team at home would have been a really bad psychological blow. Coming away with a win helps break this vicious cycle we've been in of going on losing/drawing runs after a good run of form, and hopefully it's a good omen for the future at least.

In fairness he's usually played on the wing so that might be Tony's influence.
-
Not for long. At this point it's a matter of time before they fall out of the automatic spots. They seem to have mentally collapsed just like last season, and it'll be doubly psychologically damaging knowing it's happening for a second year in a row. At this rate they could genuinely fall out of the top six entirely, which would be hilarious. I imagine if they fail to go up again this season Bielsa will be gone as two implosions in consecutive seasons is surely unacceptable.

If Brereton shows genuine endeavour like he did tonight then that is at least a start, as in previous matches he looked like he had lost the will to even try. I still think he should have been loaned out somewhere for regular football, but if he's here then TM needs to keep him motivated and ready to make an impact when he comes on. Ideally for more than just 2 or 3 minutes at the end of a match.

Tbf for £3m Brentford knew they weren't signing the finished article - far from it. Raya is a great reflex keeper who has never been comfortable coming out to claim the ball from crosses. Looks like he still has that weakness although without watching Brentford over the course of the season I can't say whether he's improved from his time here or not.
-
His purple patches previously showed he had the potential, but he really seems to be realising it now. Had some stinkers earlier in the season which got him a bit of stick, but fair play to the lad he's buckled down and has shown a huge improvement as of late. Unquestionably our most important player with Dack and Holtby out injured. I hope that we'll see a similar surge in consinstent form from Rothwell before the season ends.

If the interest from Australia was serious in the summer Graham probably should have gone tbh. This season has largely been a waste for him and the lack of game time looks to have taken much of his ability away - which is wont to happen at his age. Would have been better off playing regular football elsewhere, even at a lower level. He's been a very good striker for us but this was a season too far with TM trying to phase him out in favour of Armstrong and SG.

It was the top of the bar and still not on target as the woodwork doesn't count. Walton didn't have a save to make by the looks of it so I don't think you can reasonably say we were lucky not to concede. Walton could have sat in the stands for the entire match and we'd still have conceded none as they didn't have a shot at any point that was going in. Hull were lucky we didn't put 5 or 6 past them frankly as they were abysmal.

Great corner from Downing for the first, perfect delivery into a dangerous area. Peach of a strike from Arma for the second, you won't see many better hit than that. Unlucky not to score with an earlier effort as well. Great composure by Dom for the third.
-
They literally didn't have a shot on target so it would have been impossible for them to score - not luck at all, they are just a very poor team who likely wouldn't have scored if they played another 90 minutes. Our problem was breaking them down and once we managed that it was done.
-
If anyone gets flogged at this point you'd have to think it'll be Armstrong. Has had a cracking past couple of months, if he continues scoring until the end of the season (and we had better hope he does as I don't think many others will be) then you have to think he'll be a prime target to move on for decent money in the summer.

The way we play can make even dominating performances seem quite mundane, but if we win then it doesn't really matter. With that said Hull are suffering even worse than we are with injuries and are bottom of the form table, and it's clear to see why. Probably the worst team we've played at Ewood this season - so, whilst it's nice to see us run out comfortable winners I'm a bit wary as to how we'll perform against better teams. I don't think there are that many goals in the current team despite tonight's scoreline, aside from Armstrong (although he missed a fair few tonight before finally scoring with a belter). Mid-table is still my prediction for the season but it's nice to see us put a team to the sword as it doesn't happen very often, so I'll enjoy this scoreline regardless.
-
Stats show us as 24 shots and 10 on target, compared to Hull's 9 and none on target. 70% possession to 30%. Yes we struggled to break them down before Lenihan finally put it in the net but this has been a dominant performance if a bit laboured at times.
-
Just needs one chance to fall for him and a lucky strike, c'mon Brero ?
-
Big Dom > Bennett
-
Hull held out well but once we scored it was game over, and it's done now. Just need Brereton to get on the scoresheet...
-
God help us if Darragh picks up an injury at any point between now and the end of the season. Now our joint-second non-injured top scorer alongside the likes of Williams and Graham.
-
We can usually only play for 45 minutes so the fact we were dominating in that half (stats wise at least) makes me fear for the second half. It's a shame Arma's purple patch appears to be at an end as it sounds like he could have bagged a hat trick tonight if he was on form. Graham has been left out for too long and is obviously rusty. Also has nobody intelligent to link up with which is obviously going to have a big effect on his game.
-
I'm thinking of the Oldham cup match - from recollection Graham inexplicably started on the wing whilst Brereton was up top.
