  1. If Brereton shows genuine endeavour like he did tonight then that is at least a start, as in previous matches he looked like he had lost the will to even try. I still think he should have been loaned out somewhere for regular football, but if he's here then TM needs to keep him motivated and ready to make an impact when he comes on. Ideally for more than just 2 or 3 minutes at the end of a match.
  2. Tbf for £3m Brentford knew they weren't signing the finished article - far from it. Raya is a great reflex keeper who has never been comfortable coming out to claim the ball from crosses. Looks like he still has that weakness although without watching Brentford over the course of the season I can't say whether he's improved from his time here or not.
  3. His purple patches previously showed he had the potential, but he really seems to be realising it now. Had some stinkers earlier in the season which got him a bit of stick, but fair play to the lad he's buckled down and has shown a huge improvement as of late. Unquestionably our most important player with Dack and Holtby out injured. I hope that we'll see a similar surge in consinstent form from Rothwell before the season ends.
  4. If the interest from Australia was serious in the summer Graham probably should have gone tbh. This season has largely been a waste for him and the lack of game time looks to have taken much of his ability away - which is wont to happen at his age. Would have been better off playing regular football elsewhere, even at a lower level. He's been a very good striker for us but this was a season too far with TM trying to phase him out in favour of Armstrong and SG.
  5. It was the top of the bar and still not on target as the woodwork doesn't count. Walton didn't have a save to make by the looks of it so I don't think you can reasonably say we were lucky not to concede. Walton could have sat in the stands for the entire match and we'd still have conceded none as they didn't have a shot at any point that was going in. Hull were lucky we didn't put 5 or 6 past them frankly as they were abysmal.
  6. Great corner from Downing for the first, perfect delivery into a dangerous area. Peach of a strike from Arma for the second, you won't see many better hit than that. Unlucky not to score with an earlier effort as well. Great composure by Dom for the third.
  7. They literally didn't have a shot on target so it would have been impossible for them to score - not luck at all, they are just a very poor team who likely wouldn't have scored if they played another 90 minutes. Our problem was breaking them down and once we managed that it was done.
  8. If anyone gets flogged at this point you'd have to think it'll be Armstrong. Has had a cracking past couple of months, if he continues scoring until the end of the season (and we had better hope he does as I don't think many others will be) then you have to think he'll be a prime target to move on for decent money in the summer.
  9. The way we play can make even dominating performances seem quite mundane, but if we win then it doesn't really matter. With that said Hull are suffering even worse than we are with injuries and are bottom of the form table, and it's clear to see why. Probably the worst team we've played at Ewood this season - so, whilst it's nice to see us run out comfortable winners I'm a bit wary as to how we'll perform against better teams. I don't think there are that many goals in the current team despite tonight's scoreline, aside from Armstrong (although he missed a fair few tonight before finally scoring with a belter). Mid-table is still my prediction for the season but it's nice to see us put a team to the sword as it doesn't happen very often, so I'll enjoy this scoreline regardless.
  10. Stats show us as 24 shots and 10 on target, compared to Hull's 9 and none on target. 70% possession to 30%. Yes we struggled to break them down before Lenihan finally put it in the net but this has been a dominant performance if a bit laboured at times.
  11. Just needs one chance to fall for him and a lucky strike, c'mon Brero ?
  12. Big Dom > Bennett
  13. Hull held out well but once we scored it was game over, and it's done now. Just need Brereton to get on the scoresheet...
  14. God help us if Darragh picks up an injury at any point between now and the end of the season. Now our joint-second non-injured top scorer alongside the likes of Williams and Graham.
  15. We can usually only play for 45 minutes so the fact we were dominating in that half (stats wise at least) makes me fear for the second half. It's a shame Arma's purple patch appears to be at an end as it sounds like he could have bagged a hat trick tonight if he was on form. Graham has been left out for too long and is obviously rusty. Also has nobody intelligent to link up with which is obviously going to have a big effect on his game.
  16. I'm thinking of the Oldham cup match - from recollection Graham inexplicably started on the wing whilst Brereton was up top.
  17. I'm sure he has his reasons, but it would be nice just once to see a team out there with every player in their correct position. Honestly I'm shocked Graham didn't end up on the wing with Armstrong up top. I'm sure we've done that before, possibly in the cup?
  18. Because there always has to be at least two players not playing in their natural positions.
  19. Gallagher is injured as well?
  20. Smackdown really hasn't been any good since that 2016-2017 period when they were on fire. Talking Smack was great too. Since then downhill and now total shit. No idea how it draws 2.5m viewers every week. Must be a lot of bored people on Friday nights in the States. Honestly the only time I've found Sheamus interesting was when he feuded with and then teamed with Cesaro. He bores me to tears otherwise and nothing's changed in his latest singles run. Cesaro will never be pushed as long as Vince is around. Should go to AEW where he'd be properly used.
  21. I think it was between a 3pm and 5.30pm game which might be why it isn't easy to find.
  22. Correct. Bowyer was simply unable to operate in a market where his budget was severely restricted and brought in a lot of dross as a result. In fairness to him I think most managers would have struggled in that situation, save for proper long-in-the-tooth types like McCarthy and Warnock who have been there, done it and know where to look even on a shoestring budget.
  23. Pretty much. The reasons for keeping Mowbray are for the most part completely logical and understandable. We know what the owners are like and nobody could surely trust them to replace Mowbray competently. On the other hand it was these owners who hired TM in the first place, and if he is considered an improvement on those who came before him then there's an argument the owners have the aptitude or luck to once again hire somebody who improves on their predecessors. It's unlikely based on their track record but still possible.
  24. I don't think the Brereton transfer is necessarily as strange as is sometimes made out. Obviously £7m for a youngster with potential is practically unheard of for a club at our level and with our finances, however there is some logic behind it. Young, English and in the current climate would go for a lot more than what we paid if the transfer worked out in any way. Obviously thus far it has not and signs are that it never will. I doubt Mowbray was the primary force behind signing Brereton, but I'm sure he had the final say in whether the signing went ahead or not, which puts the responsibility solely on his shoulders. I don't think Brereton was "forced" on Mowbray although perhaps was encouraged by certain parties (if Mowbray and Brereton's agent is the same, as I'm sure I read somewhere on here, then the link there is obvious enough).
  25. I think unquestionably Mowbray would be viewed differently had we stayed up in 16/17 and things had then played out in a similar fashion to present day. I imagine the feeling would be more similar to how it was during Bowyer's final days, although Mowbray would still have credit in the bank from saving us from what looked like certain relegation under Coyle. Bowyer also saved the club from a perceived spiral after a disastrous 12/13 season, though, so the comparisons still aren't too far from the mark. It's difficult when you start playing with 'what ifs' though as it's entirely possible our signings and progress would be markedly different had we not been relegated. Maybe we'd be doing better now, or maybe we'd be doing worse. Would the likes of Dack or Armstrong be here? Would Brereton have been signed and become an albatross around the manager's neck? Would Gallagher have returned to us in the 17/18 season instead on loan or permanently for the same or a lesser fee? Would the likes of Travis and Nyambe have broken into the first team as they have done recently? Would Raya have become number 1 and eventually been sold? Chances are the likes of Bell, Smallwood and Rothwell wouldn't be here at all. There are a lot of questions there. So many that I don't think you can logically begin to realistically assess a likely scenario as so many things could have changed.
