  1. Decent point for Leicester in the end. Means that if Everton draw on the final day they can now potentially leapfrog them thanks to their superior GD, and even if Leeds also win they'll still finish ahead of them. Could be a critical point depending on how results go on the 28th.
  2. The problem for me isn't so much that they're asking MGP, more that they are so actively involved to begin with. I was hoping they had taken a back seat and were letting the people at Ewood get on with fixing their mess. By the sounds of it that isn't the case, which I am concerned by as I don't want them involved at all in the footballing side of things at the club.
  3. Don't think any of Leicester, Leeds or Everton could complain about going down - all deserve to drop. Looks like Leeds' gamble on Allardyce came too late in the day. All to play for in the final game but neither Leeds nor Leicester look capable of getting any more points at the moment. Huge game for Leicester tomorrow, a win puts all the pressure on Everton due to Leicester's superior GD.
  4. Yep, pretty much. From memory in interviews afterwards JDT wasn't best pleased with the O'Brien situation, but made it clear that he actually wanted a striker anyway. It's not like we'd been dealt an injury late into January and had to scramble to find a decent striker, either. We'd known we were short in that area since the summer, and it had become obvious very quickly that Hirst wasn't the answer. We had months to sort that position and ended January empty-handed. Simply not good enough and JDT had and has every right to be upset with that, as lack of goals are demonstrably what cost us a playoff place this season.
  5. He said recently he only wants to work from February onwards now, so unless we were offering him a pretty huge warchest I doubt he'd be interested. Our chance with him was in 2016, and we blew it because the people in charge of the club are absolutely clueless and genuinely thought Owen Coyle was a better option. Presumably solely based on the criteria he'd work for less, as there was literally no other reason to appoint him ahead of Warnock.
  6. One of the risks of hiring a manager with a reputation in the game is that they're going to attract attention quickly if they've done a decent job in their first season. I've been somewhat resigned to JDT leaving since the January fiasco, so whilst I'll be disappointed if he does go, I won't be surprised. As far as getting in a replacement, I think Broughton has a good idea of the kind of manager required, but recent revelations about Venky's calling MGP for advice on who to select for the position is obviously a concern. Ultimately it's still their call and I don't trust them at all.
  7. Hadn't really considered Luton/Coventry, but yeah, I suppose that's possible.
  8. If it does end up being Everton, Leicester and Southampton, you have to think all three of them will be major forces in the Championship next season. Southampton could end up in a Stoke/Swansea situation where they seriously lose their way, but I can't see past Everton/Leicester for top two if they did both go down. Incredible that at least one of them will be playing Championship football this season. Everton have been teetering on the edge for a couple of seasons now, but Leicester have been a solid top-half side for multiple seasons now. I don't think anyone would have tipped them for a collapse of this magnitude.
  9. A real shame those two brutal injuries, and/or playing in a team built by Tony Mowbray, robbed him of the chance of playing in the Premier League. He may not have had the pace, but I think his excellent technique and positioning would have made him effective at a higher level. Sadly for him it just wasn't meant to be.
  10. And with that, one of Leicester and Everton are guaranteed to be relegated. One has to think Everton have a decent chance of beating Bournemouth at home on the final day, or at least getting a point, so Leeds desperately need a win tomorrow. Fair play to Forest for sticking with Cooper. Pretty much everyone thought he was toast a few months ago, but it seems keeping faith with him was ultimately the right call.
  11. One of Leicester or Everton going down for sure as things stand.
  12. I believe 24 is the cut off for what is classified as a young player in these awards. Not sure why it's that age specifically mind.
  13. I'd expect Dack to find another Championship club, would be very surprised if he dropped to League 1 at this point. Even with his limited appearances with us this season he still contributed goals and assists, so I definitely don't think he's finished at this level by any means. The main thing for him will be to get through a full pre-season somewhere without a recurrence of injury. If he can get back to something resembling full fitness I think he could be very effective at Championship level, albeit he'll probably always be a higher injury risk now due to his injuries.
  14. No reason to think JDT won't continue to work as normal unless an offer comes in for his services from elsewhere, at which point he would obviously have to consider his future. I think the only conclusion you can draw from him preparing for the new season is that he isn't planning to resign. One imagines he would already have done so by now if he was going to.
  15. In general I know he doesn't have much say, but I'm sure he's permitted to have some input. It wouldn't surprise me if he's put Dack's name forward to the recruitment team, even if it isn't ultimately his decision.
  16. I think it'd be fascinating to see Luton go up, considering the size of the club. It'd be interesting to see how PL teams handle a stadium like Kenilworth Road. You would imagine even one season in the Prem would be transformative in the short-to-medium term for a club like Luton. That can have its benefits, but also some major pitfalls if the money isn't spent wisely.
  17. Tbf I imagine a result like that shifts you from anger to just shellshocked disbelief.
  18. Surprisingly not best pleased.
  19. Wonder if that paves the way for Dack to Sunderland? Have to think Mowbray will be floating the idea to the recruitment team. Ayala as well perhaps?
  20. That's what you call bottle. Coming back from 4-0 down to 4-4, conceding in extra time and coming back again, then scoring all five of your penalties. Fair play, what an incredible match.
  21. I guess we'll see. By the sounds of it we were paying too much for Hirst (although admittedly you could argue anything above 0 was too much) and by the sounds of it we were going to pay a significant amount for O'Brien for six months as well. Would have been a fantastic get, but a lot of money for a position that was second priority to a striker. Nonetheless, it's a big summer for the recruitment team and it'll be a chance for them to prove that January was an aberration rather than the standard. We did some good deals in the summer with the likes of Hyam and Szmodics, so have to hope there's more of that on the way - preferably with the quality coming specifically in attack, seeing as we've let two of our main historical sources of goals leave.
  22. From memory I don't think he has much if any say on transfers at Sunderland.
  23. Can't say I've had any emotional reaction to Dack leaving, but that probably speaks to my general disconnection from the club on an emotional level in general. Appreciate his efforts in the League 1 season for sure - since then we've been treading water, whilst teams with far less time and resources in the division have finished above us and in some cases in the playoffs. Pretty much all of my fond memories of Dack will be from that season in League 1, with everything else after that being a contribution to the journey to nowhere. Not Dack's fault mind, before his injuries he was the only player in the team really worth paying money to see, but it's a shame that after the L1 season his outstanding performances aren't linked to anything we achieved as a club. Unless you count finishing mid-table in the Championship as an achievement.
  24. Spot on. Teams that fail sit around bemoaning luck, teams that progress make their own. Score more than one goal per match and, with our generally quite sturdy defence, we don't have to worry about a last gasp equaliser.
  25. Useful when fit, but that was only roughly 30% of each season, so I can't say I'm bothered about this one. With his age, wages, injury record and questionable ability to fit into JDT's style of play it seems like the right decision to release.
