  2. Couldn't agree more - I was just curious to determine whether Vinjay felt like that too or whether he was just unable to bring himself to use the prefix with Fergie.
  3. The latter for me without a doubt. Haven't missed the actual footie at all
  4. There are always exceptions, and my repulsion for him is obviously not remotely linked to his knighthood. I don't remember being especially outraged when he was made a knight, to be honest (other than my general disagreement with the honours system). Anyway I think its a fair bet that he would have had his knighthood taken away had he been alive when the shit hit the fan. Vinjay's intolerance of Ferguson and the Jimmy Savile example aren't really the same, but I guess you knew that anyway
  5. I am a simple soul and my view on this has always been just keep the finger on the pause button just now. People are talking as though the 2020/21 season will be a normal one when we have no idea really. It may well be much more palatable for that to be the season that gets scrapped or modified in advance, where all parties know the rules before they kick a ball, while we get on with finishing this season off in as 'normal' a way as possible, whenever that might be. But football should be put on hold indefinitely just now. I realise that this will have financial implications, but other industries are finding innovative ways to deal with things, there's no reason why football can't do likewise. Why players should get more than £2500 per month while there is no football being played is quite beyond me. The fact that they usually earn a bucketload more than that should have provided them with a cushion for more difficult times and if it hasn't, then welcome to the real world chaps!
  6. Just as a matter of interest would you not recognise any knighted person as 'sir' or do you just decide on the Vinjay scale whether the award was warranted or not. I fundamentally disagree with the awards system myself (though it has improved in the last 20 years) but that said I do use it when referring to knighted people (Sir Kenny Dalglish, Sir Ian Botham, Sir Nick Faldo, Sir Andy Murray and yes, SAF, to name but a few sports ones) because whether I like it or not, that is their title.

  9. Vinjay, I'm hardly going to start naming people on here but suffice to say that an immediate relative of mine was a very senior manager at Walkersteel for 25 years. Believe me, Jack was a ruthless bastard of a businessman when he needed to be. And on occasions when he didn't need to be, too. Jock Stein? You think Shankly, Clough, Revie etc etc etc (the list from that era is almost endless) weren't also bullies (by modern standards). It has become obvious that Stein turned a blind eye to some seriously wrong things that were happening in the shadows of Celtic Football Club in the 70s early 80s as well. None of which is relevant to what we are discussing, really. Going back to the Walkers - One of the reasons Jack is 'well regarded' by many is because he played the good cop to Fred's bad cop. And if you think he didn't approve of or was unaware of any brutal decisions then you're even more naive than you come across. Without wishing to totally derail the thread, the notion of "Jack Walker = good guy, his family = a bad lot" is a twisted distortion of the actual truth, which as ever will be somewhere in the middle. The only general thing about them I would say is that pots of money inevitably causes trouble and bad behaviour somewhere along the way, whoever you are.
  10. Marvin Gaye - Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)
  11. How on earth do you know whether Jack's hiring and firing was always justified? You don't get to where Jack got to in business without being a ruthless bastard. And he was just that. One person's 'ruthless' is another person's 'bully'. Yes I love 'Uncle Jack' the benefactor for what he did for Rovers, but I knew plenty of people who worked for him and couldn't abide him, including Rovers fans. That's life, things aren't always as black and white or cut and dried as they seem. I've heard enough stories about Alex Ferguson around Glasgow to know that he has a very generous side to him as well. Anyway back to the topic, if anyone is going to get us big money soon it is likely to be Lenihan.
  12. Some familiar faces there Mark! Dave Smith never misses a photo opportunity ???
