I think if you read big Hendry's article in FourFourTwo (someone has posted the link on this thread) he makes a thinly veiled swipe at Sherwood's captaincy.

I reckon that's a pretty fair assessment Mark tbh

PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS ? 25 years today

Four particular things make me smile when I think about that day: 1. My mate Paddy O’Callaghan throwing his trannie radio about 100ft into the Anfield sky when the final whistle went at Upton Park. (RIP Paddy) 2. Two scousers knocking fuck out of each other in the pub after the game. I have no idea what they were arguing about but it was like a scene from Harry Enfield. 3. A big banner hung on a farmhouse aside the M61 that said “Well done Rovers, from BWFC fans” (classy!) 4. As each car or minibus full of fans approached Ewood on the way back from the game, the thousands of fans that were outside the ground cheered us as we went past - you’d think we were the returning heroes ha ha. Nobody can ever take that day away from us ????✊?✊??? -
I agree there Tyrone. It was interesting to note that he barely featured when he was first signed, Cowans was twice the player Sherwood ever was.

The lad that plays drums for Paul Weller - Steve Pilgrim - is also a very talented musician in his own right (guitar based folky-type stuff). He's going to play some tunes live on Facebook this Sunday night at 9pm and he's promised to dedicate a particular favourite of mine called Love On Your Side to my son, who is a doctor in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

This. He was brought in to hold the ball up and he was an expert at that, his legs had gone but a he had a very, very wise head on him.

A cursory glance at Dahlin's x-rays would confirm that he was not 'swinging the lead' but that aside if this is true then Sherwood is a twat of the highest order. The epitome of a rubber dinghy man. I expect every player wearing our famous shirt to give 100%. At all times, not just when the sun is shining. The inference here is that our premier league winning captain downed tools just when the club really needed leadership.

I can't be arsed to look but I can't think that he played many games for us at all, ten or so? It was the notion that he was signed as some sort of Ripley replacement that didn't really ring true in my head.

In my mind Perez was a full back?

Good thread. In my view Hodgson is really good at galvanising/motivating/organising average players but has often been found out when dealing with top class pros (or those that think they are). He basically lost the dressing room after an initial honeymoon period and I felt that players like Sherwood (who I understand despised Hodgson) let us down really badly that season. Fast forward a number of years and Woy had a similar effect at Anfield. Ironic that even that ended for him at Ewood Park ultimately. But even having said all that in terms of the final league position these things can still turn on pivotal moments and that Forest home game, had it gone the other way, would have made all the difference and could have seen us survive.

The latter for me without a doubt. Haven't missed the actual footie at all -
There are always exceptions, and my repulsion for him is obviously not remotely linked to his knighthood. I don't remember being especially outraged when he was made a knight, to be honest (other than my general disagreement with the honours system). Anyway I think its a fair bet that he would have had his knighthood taken away had he been alive when the shit hit the fan. Vinjay's intolerance of Ferguson and the Jimmy Savile example aren't really the same, but I guess you knew that anyway

I am a simple soul and my view on this has always been just keep the finger on the pause button just now. People are talking as though the 2020/21 season will be a normal one when we have no idea really. It may well be much more palatable for that to be the season that gets scrapped or modified in advance, where all parties know the rules before they kick a ball, while we get on with finishing this season off in as 'normal' a way as possible, whenever that might be. But football should be put on hold indefinitely just now. I realise that this will have financial implications, but other industries are finding innovative ways to deal with things, there's no reason why football can't do likewise. Why players should get more than £2500 per month while there is no football being played is quite beyond me. The fact that they usually earn a bucketload more than that should have provided them with a cushion for more difficult times and if it hasn't, then welcome to the real world chaps!
