  1. I'm not criticising him or the club, to be honest, its just an observation of a situation that seemed to go unreported among a load of other drivel that was reported back in 2002. At the time of the accident the story was that he didn't have a crash helmet on (which was untrue) but I don't recall ever reading or hearing that he had broken club rules by riding a motorbike. I guess he thought he was invincible, as we all did at that age.

  4. I'm about 3/4 the way through this. While of course one has to have a huge amount of sympathy for him at his career getting cut short like that, I think Jansen is very lucky that Rovers stuck by him, because simply by getting on that scooter he was in breach of explicit written instructions from the club. The book also confirms what a pampered existence top players have.

  10. I loved listening to TMS. There have been some absolutely fantastic one-liners over the years. One of my favourites was during an Ashes series when Steve Waugh got smashed in the box while fielding at short leg. After lengthy treatment, Johnners said "And Waugh has now gone down to third man to lick his wounds" to raucous laughter from the rest of the commentary box.
  11. Paul Weller - Push It Along Not one of his best, to be honest
  12. The Trammps - Hold Back the Night
  13. I had totally forgotten that Darren Anderton smacked one against the post in extra time as well - that was actually even closer than Gazza's miss. Also, Spain had a perfectly good goal chalked off against us in the quarter final that would have sent us packing too. Germany also had a 'golden goal' disallowed in the semi final for a push but that one did look the right decision. Even though I knew the outcome, I still got nervous when we were taking those penalties!!
  14. Big Sound Authority - Miss My Baby
  15. RIP Jim Fryatt. I only saw him play right at the end of his career but my Darwen Olympic colleagues of the late 70’s and early 80s likened my style of play to his. Reat easy big fella
