  1. Is it our overseas scouting network? Think I recognise the picture on the right, it's the Dutch scout.
  2. You have earned a role as head of marketing. I'm impressed.
  3. Have to say if I was marketing Rovers' half season tickets I'd hang on as long as possible in the hope of thinking up a reason why someone would buy one.
  4. Agreed. There cannot be an innocent mistake. Up to non UK personnel to check there documents although I'm sure that most Premier league clubs have a procedure to deal with this.
  5. I'm told that Robert's father and Greg's grandfather were brothers.
  6. My understanding was that it was something to do with the recognition of the international validity of the licence. I think from memory Diouf had a similar problem. I do know that Mokoena hired a Manchester lad to drive for him and the lad played as a semi-professional in a league in the North-West. Mokoena started to turn up to watch him, refused a free ticket and paid at the gate like everyone.
  7. I always thought Mokoena was found not to have a valid licence after a speeding offence.
  8. Everyone on this topic have hit the nail on the head but it will change nothing. No-one at the club is ever going to convey the message to Venky's. Black would have succeeded Kean if he had not told them what a mess their close season recruitment had been. Berg told that that monthly trips to India were a poor idea. Appleton and Lambert told them what a mess the club was in. Hunt wrote a famous letter. Look at the length of time they remained at the club. Who have been the longest serving managers? Kean, Bowyer and Mowbray who have nothing but praise for the owners. The same applies to the administrators. Do you honestly think anyone employed at Ewood is going to step up? Ironically our only hope of salvation might lie with Suhail but after striking out with Lambert and Senior and his involvement in the Coyle appointment he might not be willing to stick his neck out.
  9. I made no comment on Bell's ability but pointed out that a number of men who know far more about football than I do rated him sufficiently for him not to be classed as a useless player.
  10. So League 1 & 2 sides can get by with useless, terrible footballers.
  11. This criticism of players is really getting out of hand. By the time a player reaches the Football League he has been approved by all sorts of men who know the game. If you want to take Bell's case Uwe Rosler I'm sure would be happy to point out his qualities. He was also the subject of a bid by Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce, Alan Irvine and Harry Redknapp had him extensively watched. Are you honestly trying to tell me that they would have bothered with a useless player who is terrible at football. He was voted to a Division One team of the year. If you want to make the point that he is not performing to these standards, fair enough but sweeping derogatory remarks scarcely raise the level of debate.
  12. Share all your reservations but would a head of football operations actually spend time coaching,
  13. Mihaylov resigned. Another of Kean's mates out of football.
  14. Said that when the appointment was made and had my views ridiculed.
  15. Indirectly you are right. He's the guy who come over and fixes the budget for each department. Its a vital role in keeping the club under control with particular regard to FFP. It stops the club running up debt to the extent they did in the early days. Being in India most of the time he can also sign on behalf of the club in those inter company arrangements that all group companies are involved in.
  16. Not sure that the referee is to blame and Arbitro's opinion would be valuable. I have the opinion that referees have instructions to try and hurry matters up by pointing out that time will be added and only resort to booking people to prevent potential flare ups. It could be he was simply following instructions on game management. Whether those instructions are adequate is a different matter. Can't help but feel no matter what the authorities do managers find way of defeating laudable aims. In recent months Lambert was sent off, for confrontation with a goalkeeping coach and a performance coach, Parkinson for confrontation with half the Leeds back room staff and Bowyer when an unidentified Birmingham coach deliberately halted play in injury time by throwing a ball on the field. In every case the manager just sat there grinning and it appears to me that since the rules on sending off managers have been introduced managers send out their staff to achieve their objective. I might have pointed out that all three opposing managers were foreign but then you have the case of the Burnley goalkeeping coach abusing Sarri throughout the game and when Mowbray decided to teach the Sheffield ball boy life affirming advice, who was on the touchline mouthing off, Ben Benson. Why is there suddenly an increase in back room staff getting involved if it is not to make the referee's position difficult. My biggest criticism of the referee was that after Tunnicliffe was caught by Bennett he immediately set off to get retribution against anybody which he duly did. The referee saw it clearly but did nothing. Surely deliberately attempting to hurt an opponent should produce some sanction. Time wasting has become endemic and it appears to me that referees control it by adding time on. Goalkeepers routinely make clean catches of the ball with no-one around and then drop to the floor. To my mind this should be dealt with as ungentlemanly conduct or does that rule still exist.
  17. Absolutely sums him up. The feet were so fast that he never needed pace to go round an opponent. Only player anywhere near him for speed of foot was Eddie Crossan and sometimes I glimpsed it with Berkovic.
  18. Side lining into a less visible job does. If you honestly believe that promotion is given to those who merit it you must have been fortunate with your employment.
  19. First I got this from a reliable source and no I'm not going to name him since then he would not be a source anymore. Secondly if you have spent any time on the corporate ladder of major companies you would know that side lining rising stars is part of the job preservation technique. Its also common among solicitors and chartered accountants which are areas I know and I believe it is rife among salesmen. Do you think that football is any different ?
  20. Have you thought that if the club have another 4 from 33 run even Venky's might want a change. So Johnson would be a possibility for at least caretaker. Now by bringing Johnson in the fold Mowbray knows that if things are going well he will be alright. If they are going badly Johnson might not look as obvious for the role and this might give Mowbray more time. On the other hand if Johnson had another season with the U 23s punching above their weight then his credentials would be improving all the time.
  21. No he was an ambulance driver, one step off being a para medic.
  22. Looks like we are in a Big Bang Sheldon situation where irony should clearly be flagged so that people would not misinterpret comments.
