  1. Youth at the club mentioned twice. I would hope we can continue that, beginning with re-signing some of our most valuable young players.
  2. Meanwhile, Jackson should get mgr of year, if he steers his club to safety, with Mee, Rodriguez, Tarkowski, Vydra & Westwood all out
  3. Critchley, I think he could be a good selection. Another Liverpool coach who hasn’t been mentioned, but is a great football man, is Pep Lijnders.
  4. I was very hopeful of a quick Dyche hire, but as time marches on, I get less hopeful. He’s had promotions to PL, & kept a club up the longest. He checks those boxes. Right now, if I knew it was Dyche or Farke, I’d be over the moon.
  5. Farke would please me… I think many of us here do not believe it will ever happen, therefore we try to temper our excitement. Who knows, owners might surprise us. We just don’t want disappointment, so we expect a plodder.
  6. Adkins % is better (42.1), but has managed fewer games (561), also PL experience > Mowbray, etc. He’s a year younger. In fact, a fairly close comparison, Mowbray & Adkins. Many of us would tolerate a Adkins appointment, with some grumbling. Definitely not a home run hire.
  7. We are just scattershooting now. Y’all know a lot more about English football than me. I’m just looking at names, possibilities, and who might work with our club. We’re going to find problems with whoever we get anyway, as we’re not getting Pep or Juergen. That’s my contribution to the discussion, I will now wait & probably gripe with the lot of you, with whoever we get. Somehow, I bet whoever he is, he won’t be good enough to manage our beloved club.
  8. I do not disagree, but it’s who we have a realistic shot. Hughton was mentioned. I would not be opposed to him, but he is 63. Mark Hughes is 58. Either name is much more exciting than several others on the lists we’ve seen in this thread. Same with Jackett. If we want to build, I would prefer a decade or so younger. I spoke of bias earlier, age would be mine.
  9. I know anything can be proved/disproved by statistics, and there is always a bias/prejudice. However, looking at the numbers of Mowbray, and possible successors (I hope these stats are recent): Mowbray, 58 years old; 793 games managed; 41.4 win%. Jackett, 60, years old; 922 games; 44.1%; Davidson, 45 yrs; 95 games; 30.53%; S. Reid (sentimental long shot), 41 yrs, 1 game, 100%; Warne, age 49; 282 games; 38.3%; Ryan Lowe, age 43; 235 games; 42.13%; Ainsworth, 49 yrs; 523 games; 39.2%. Kenny Jackett has PL experience, 3 promotions, & a better win% than Tony. He checks several boxes. Ryan Lowe is young, did an admirable job until Bury was buried, & has a decent win%. He also is currently employed. Ainsworth has done well within restrictive budgets, is passionate, popular, homeboy, & has a great deal of managerial experience. He has promotion on his resume, and is currently employed, again in promotion fight. Those are three fairly decent candidates, imo.
  10. Hughton, 39.1% winning; Mowbray, 41.4%. Again, I believe if you replace your mgr, at least get someone who wins better than the departed.
  11. So, the owners will wait until Mowbray’s contract runs out, to bring in a new man? It will be a picked over list. There won’t be anybody left, worth getting
  12. What a relief. Close out the season with a win, Tony can sign off anytime now…
  13. What a strange place… eerie. The lake is only 22%, so this place is a ghost town
  14. I am glad to see Vale & Markanday get a runout. Hopefully, one of ‘em can get that goal back.
  15. Tracking Rovers, & following game with your comments in Lake Powell, Arizona today. COYB!
  16. I hope players intensity continues 2nd half. 90 minutes of heavy-metal football, yeah!!
  17. In other news, nice to see Wycombe win their finale. I have to admit, I’ve become something of an Ainsworth fan.
  18. I’m generally a sunshine pumper. However… As much as I would love a win, & want our players to show some pride & fight, I’m sensing a 1-1 result is about the most I can reasonably expect. one would think guys leaving would want to show their skills. Starting youngsters, Vale, Brown, etc, might get some hunger on the pitch. Will we see any signs of life from ol’ Tony in his Rovers finale? apart from the obligatory, hug the players, I’m not expecting that, either. Lifeless & tepid, I’m afraid.
  19. I’m not sure Keane would be that hire. He could be, but I agree that right now, we need a hire that is exciting, and unites the fan base. We cannot stand another dismal plodder who looks like he would be happier anywhere but striving to get Blackburn Rovers back in the PL. Keane could be; Ainsworth could be; there are others.
  20. I have to be hopeful right now, & have a wait & see attitude… but based on what Mowbray lacked, we want a person who wants to be here; has a history of promotion; and has an infectious, positive attitude. Mowbray has achieved promotion, but he lacked the attitude, and based on the last few months, we can definitely say he didn’t care about being at Rovers anymore.
  21. How much do we really know about Dyche leaving burnley. I am not saying this as an endorsement or hiring him would be a bad thing, but they’ve done ok without Dyche, as they will probably be safely in PL yet another season.
  22. I dare say Mowbray “had a plan” to get us back to the PL, only most of us would be dead or too old to appreciate it, once it comes to fruition. Wolverhampton were relegated the same year we were; they dropped to League 1 as well, before their notable resurgence under… Nuno Espírito Santo. He’s out there… why has his name not been thrown in the hat? (I apologize in advance off I may have missed it. I haven’t read every page in the thread)
  23. I just wanted something… anything… positive to talk about today. Instead, a crushing home defeat.
