  1. Indeed we paid what we paid. Sadly it seems we over paid. My point is Mowbray doesn't seem to have any worries about over paying for a player who may or may not come good in a few years time so why does he worry about over paying for someone who may have an impact now and push us into the top 6?
  2. But that argument is on very flimsy ground when he has spent a substantial amount of money on a 4th choice striker/ 6th choice winger.
  3. Raya Nyambe Lenihan Rodwell Bell Evans Travis Reed Dack Armstrong Graham Subs: Leutwiler, Williams, Bennett, Smallwood, Conway, Rothwell, Nuttall
  4. If Schalke who are in the last 16 of the Champions League can't afford him how on earth would we.
  5. But look at the difference between the Window last January compared to this. Armstrong, Bell, Payne and Downing on a permanent, those signings said to me we wanted promotion. This January we have lost Palmer and Downing (not a regular but solid whenever called upon) and signed Chapman but by the managers own admission he is for the future and not anywhere near fit enough at the moment. So we are ending the month with a slightly weaker squad than we started it with, that says to me but we are happy with where we are at the moment. Which is fair enough if that is what they believe but I think it is slightly frustrating to be within sight of the play offs and not strengthening when the majority of other teams in and around the top 6 have. As for Nuttall he's decent but as a replacement or an alternative to Graham I can't see him scoring the goals or having the all round game to keep us in touch with the top 6.
  6. At least Mowbray has confirmed what a number of us on here had suspected that we don't scout overseas. Good to hear that the penny has finally dropped with him that we should be although worrying that it has taken so long. This season in transfer market we have effectively had one hand tied behind our back being limited to the UK whereas many of our competitors have been able to scout further afield.
  7. And scored 21 goals in those 33 games. Bellamy probably played a similar amount of games for Rovers but I could tell you what a good player he was. On the other side Chris Brown probably played a similar amount of games for Rovers but I could tell you he was useless.
  8. What a pointless argument. If you used that argument all the time then we wouldn't have signed Rodwell or Graham considering Sunderland fans views on them. Ask Brentford fans about Hogan and you would get very positive feedback. Anyway they were just two examples of players that have been available that would have provided a much needed alternative to Graham.
  9. I never said they were facts that's why I said my view. But what your option is saying to me is that Mowbray knows who he want's but we may not have the budget available to go and make a player become available (because we all know that any player is for sell at the right price) and the money spent on Brereton will have impacted heavily on that budget (which was what I originally said).
  10. You really think that we couldn't find anyone striker who isn't better than Nuttall (our current second choice). I like Nuttall but let's be honest he's decent at best. Gestede is available I'd say he's better than Nuttall. Sheffield United brought in Madine and Hogan, Wigan have brought in Leon Clarke any of those 3 would have improved us until the end of the season. As it stands we have a very small chance of top 6 but a 2 week or more injury to Graham and we have no chance. Also by you saying no one is available that the manager wants you do support my view that we may not have the budget available to go and make a player become available (because we all know that any player is for sell at the right price) and the money spent on Brereton will have impacted heavily on that budget.
  11. If you want to focus on not letting goals in then don't sign Joe Hart.
  12. We are 4 points from the play offs. Would we have a better or worse chance of making up that ground on the play offs, if we strengthened the squad? We have a weaker squad going into the final stretch of the season than we did at the start of the month. Palmer and Downing (a bit part player but still a squad player) have gone and Chapman has come in but the manager himself has said is for the future as he isn't anywhere near fit enough for now.
  13. You state your opinion as if it were fact. If your comment was right then how do you explain Brereton whatever the price we have clearly overpaid on a 4th choice striker/ 6th choice winger?
  14. If we don't bring anyone in it shows one of two things. Either that we don't have the ambition to make a push on the top 6 or that the budget was blown on Brereton and there is no money left. Either way its disappointing as we have needed another striker since the summer.
  15. The most important thing for me is that the striker we bring in is a permanent, a loan until the end of the season is simply a quick short term solution (which goes completely against what Mowbray has said and done during his tenure) and in the summer we will be back to square one needing another striker and with Graham about to turn 34. Austin is a fine striker at this level but realistically he isn't going to be here next season so is a signing for 4 months. Assombalonga on a permanent or on loan with us holding the option to make it permanent is exactly the sort of player we should be looking for if we are aiming for top 6 be it this season or next, personally I think we are still a few players short of being a top 6 side this season but his goals would give us a chance. Gallagher on loan would be disappointing as he would spend most the time on the bench unlike Assombalonga who could make an immediate impact. However Gallagher on a permanent would be a good signing as he may not have a huge influence this season but I could see him having a big impact next season when I think it is more realistic to expect us to make top 6. My Preference's would be: 1. Assombalonga Permanent 2. Gallagher Permanent 3. Assombalonga Loan 4. Austin Loan 5. Gallagher Loan
  16. Gallagher on a permanent I'd be happy with, would he get the goals to fire us into the top 6 this season probably not but he would be a good signing looking ahead to next season and years to come. Gallagher on loan I would be underwhelmed with as in the short term he probably doesn't improve us greatly to push for top 6 this season like an Austin or Assombalonga would. Personally I think this season we are still a few players away from a side good enough to go up, I'd like to see us bringing someone in on a permanent as it would show we are looking ahead to next season where with the correct signings we could be serious contenders for promotion. Another reason that a permanent would be best is that we need to be looking to replace Graham long term (rather than a short term back up) we are hugely reliant on him but he will be 34 come next season. If we are able to do it Assombalonga on a permanent would be my preference if that's beyond us then Gallagher on a permanent is a good alternative.
  17. Are you really naïve enough to think that if a Premier League side came into for Dack that he wouldn't want to move. I'm sure Dack is happy here and has a good relationship with the manager but if a Premier League side came in for him you I guarantee he would want to go and test himself at the top level, why wouldn't he?
  18. Swansea and Bristol City at the moment are as attractive options as us. And Swansea look like selling Bony so that get's them not only a transfer fee but also saves them getting on for 100K a week in wages.
  19. A £7 Million transfer fee.
  20. Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Swansea (if they get rid of Bony). All are in a similar position to us looking for that little bit extra to push themselves into the top 6.
  21. Exactly you get what you pay for. Gallagher a decent centre forward, will do a job and get a few goals. Assombalonga is the sort of player that could fire a team to promotion, he is a natural and proven goal scorer.
  22. But play wasn't stopped as the ball was already out of play when the whistle was blown.
  23. But the ball had already gone out of play when he blew his whistle.
