I think he did a pretty good job at Villa especially when you look at what has happened since he left and also considering that Lerner had lost interest and he had little money to spend. Also getting League 2 Wycombe to the League Cup semi final was an incredible achievement.
-
Harsh on Lambert to say he's only done one good job.
-
That was 11 years ago though the game has moved on a lot in that time. Coyle and Lambert have both got teams promoted since then but no one would be backing either of them to get us promoted either.
-
Bennett runs about a lot and interacts with the fans but in terms of quality he doesn't bring anywhere near enough and shouldn't be in our best 11. Jack of all trades master of none. Tony Mowbray won't take us any further than mid table/top half in the Championship. He's Bowyer MK2.

I never mentioned Celina or Bamford again another strawman argument and I would not have spent £7 Million on one player anyway. If you really think that a £7 Million signing is on 3-4K a week then you are in dreamland, there are player's in the National League earning more than that.
-
So you think Armstrong is one of our top earners and yet you talk about Brereton as if he is on pittance (relatively speaking). Maybe Armstrong is on more but when you weigh them both up it's unlikely that there will be a huge difference in their wage as they are of a similar age both England youth international's, similar amount of games and goals in the Championship. The only big difference between them is the fee that we bought them for. If Brereton really is on a little as you make out (and I highly doubt it) then he should sack his agent straight away. Just out of interest what do you think Brereton is earning a week?
-
If you don't go up do you think Bielsa will still be there next season?
-
I'm pleased you mention Armstrong as he and Brereton are an interesting comparison as both are a similar age, both England youth international's and prior to signing Armstrong had played 3 more games at this level than Brereton but Brereton had 1 more goal. So given all that you'd have to assume that they would be on a similar wage and both are on 4 year contracts. Meaning the only real difference is the fee Brereton cost more than double what Armstrong did which suggests to me taking all those factors into account that we other paid for Brereton. What we paid for Armstrong is about right for a player with potential to grow but not a great 2nd tier record, what we paid for Brereton you what an immediate impact.
-
Wrong again we didn't sign Brereton from his first pro contract (https://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/news/2017/june/brereton-excited-for-future/). As for the last bit I have no idea if that is meant for me or not because it has no relevance to anything I have said. You have again conveniently missed what I said about Brereton's wage. I never even mentioned Premier League wages you have invented that to try and make your own straw man argument rather than respond to the points that I put to you.
-
But's he's not on his first professional contract and as he has just been bought for £7 Million you'd expect him to at least be earning around the same as an average Championship player, many of whose career transfer fees wouldn't add up to £7 Million. You talk about Brereton as if he is an apprentice and is earning a few hundred quid a week not someone who is a youth international, played over 50 2nd tier games and was one of the leagues most expensive signings in the summer. Exactly
-
John Egan went to Sheffield United for £4 Million and I can guarantee you that over the course of their 4 year contracts that Brereton is not earning £3 Million less than him. So it could have been possible. Also if you are right and Brereton is on a reduction in wages have you ever considered why a player who cost more than twice what our next most expensive signing cost is on a wage that doesn't reflect his transfer fee?
-
Bennett is a jack of all trades master of none, he runs about but brings no real quality. I've said it time and time again but he is a very poor right back and average at best in a more advanced role. For me he doesn't get into our best starting 11. Evans is Evans a few performances where he looks as good as anything in the league followed by a few performances where you barely notice that he's playing and then probably an injury. There's a reason why he hasn't got a move to a promotion chasing club or the premiership like other players that played in Bowyer's team did and I think that is because he goes missing to often. Conway should never have been given a new contract, he looked of the pace whenever he featured in League 1 last season. A purely sentimental decision to give him a new contract and one half decent game against Sheffield Wednesday is no justification for giving him one. As for Lenihan I wouldn't say he has progressed under Mowbray. Coyle putting him at Centre back and his performances there in our relegation season was one of the few bright points of the season and one of the few good things Coyle did. I've actually been disappointed with Lenihan this season I was hoping that he was really going to kick on but if anything he hasn't played as well as he did in his previous season at this level. Considering he's nearly 25 and an international he is still incredibly rash.
-
Mowbray's got to shoehorn Bennett in somewhere.
-
Now, now no need for that. Attacking the man again.
-
But he's shown nothing to show that he deserves a start.

In response to someone saying that is was £7 Million that we could have spent better you said "Yea. We could’ve signed a few premier league frees like Etuhu and Murphy, that would’ve turned out better than it this wouldn’t it." I merely asked you was it and either or situation did we have to sign either Premier League players in their mid 30's on big wages or a teenager for a big fee? Were we not allowed to sign experienced Championship players in their mid to late 20's? To which you responded 'no' therefore admitting that you had created a false dichotomy in order to make Brereton seem like a better signing. Call me old fashioned but I judge my strikers on goals and he has played over 500 minutes of football for us and still not scored, whatever way you dress it up that is a big problem.
-
Backtracking.
-
Was it and either or situation then did we have to sign either Premier League players in their mid 30's on big wages or a teenager for a big fee? Were we not allowed to sign experienced Championship players in their mid to late 20's?

No doubt that Smith leaving big effect on them for a spell. When he left they were 6th and after he left they went on a run of 4 points in 10 games. I won't ever understand why footballer use twitter.
-
You couldn't blame the lad if he wanted to move it must disheartening for him to see Conway come on and plod around ahead of him.
-
Nyambe isn't injured. It is Mowbray's decision not to even pick him in the squad.
-
Not at all we were a club with a modest budget competing in the top half of what was then best league in the world and personally I have always been a fan of Sam and his slightly old fashioned style of football. What has happened since Sam left has shown what a fine job he did. Give me a more pragmatic brand of football but a top half finish in the PL than going more attacking and ending up going down. You failed to answer my question that I put to you about where we should have been under Sam? As you said you had different standards to me when I said finishing top 10 in the premier league and making a cup semi final was a good season.
-
I was only saying that to an Everton supporting mate tonight.
-
Where exactly should we have been then when Sam was here then if 10th in the Premier wasn't good enough for you? You do realise Sam wasn't managing in the early/Mid 90's? Anyway you got your wish Sam got the sack and what a resounding failure the club has been ever since then.
-
Sam inherited a team that was 19th after 17 games, the likes of Friedel and Bentley had gone, Santa Cruz had no interest and we were heading for relegation. Sam came in got us up to 15th by the end of the season and comfortably safe with a few games to spare and then the following season finished 10th and got to a cup Semi Final, if that's what you call awful then you clearly have very different expectations for Rovers than I do.
