A unsurprising but nonetheless uninspiring line up. -
When he was Brereton's age he played 9 league games in a Southampton team that finished 7th in the Premier League under Ronald Koeman. So safe to say that he would have been in our squad.

Raya Nyambe Downing Mulgrew Williams Reed Travis Palmer Dack Rothwell Graham Subs: Leutwiler, Lenihan, Bell, Rodwell, Evans, Armstrong, Nuttall -
I certainly wouldn't be sending him to Lincoln given the lack of football they have given Wharton plus Travis is to good for League 2. If he is going to play there then Portsmouth would be a great move for him.

Correct me if I'm wrong but even after the penalty were we not still 2-1 up at home to an average Birmingham side with just 12 minutes left to play. We really should still be seeing the game out. -
I completely agree as is evident in the fact that of the summer signings only Reed has nailed down a regular place.
-
Have you seen our midfield lately. We play with two so called holding midfielders and are regularly overrun.
-
How many newly promoted Championship clubs can you name that have spent £7 million on a player that by mid December hasn't started a game. If we can afford to spend £7 Million on a sub who may develop then perhaps we ought to be aiming for the play offs.

Let's hope we get them better loans moves than we got Wharton, Hardcastle and Platt (all 3 have barley played). Nuttall and Travis have already had half a season wasted at a key stage in their development a bad loan move and they will have both wasted a year. I personally would rather see Travis in the centre of midfield than Smallwood, as for Nuttall I don't think he would offer any less upfront that Brereton. -
It's all very well talking about it but there is no sign of it on the pitch
-
There won't be any change in the way we play until Smallwood and Evans are split up by Reed in the centre of midfield, Rothwell is given a run and some proper wingers are signed. At the moment there is no sign of Evans and Smallwood being split up or Rothwell playing or playing some proper wingers. So we are stuck with out of position wingers meaning we have no width and two centre midfielders that won't or can't pass or move forward.

I agree that we shouldn't but the simple fact is with our defence we do need to. -
That's why is said last June and not this June. The market hasn't changed that much in the last year for Championship clubs players of that value are still out there.
-
If I told you at the start of the season that we would spend £7 million on a striker and by the middle of December he wouldn't have started a game or scored a goal, I'm sure you would have said that he has been a poor signing. We aren't Man City where we can afford to sign a young lad for big money and hope to develop him we are a newly promoted club and have spent not far of a club record fee on someone who isn't up to standard now but we hope might develop in a year or two's time. As for Pukki and Muapay being masterstrokes we are never going to sign those sort of players because we don't look into the foreign market. Over the last few years there have been some good strikers brought in from France in particular Kodja, Maupay and Diedhiou all for what they cost from France offered much more value than £7 Million for Brereton. If Joao is 'cack' what does that make Brereton as Joao is a much better striker than him.

That was 8 minutes within 12 minutes of Graham going of it was 2-2. And even after Raya's mistake we were still 2-1 up at home against a Birmingham side who 'were creating nothing'. And you know who you need up front when you are playing long balls to make sure that the ball doesn't come straight back at you, Danny Graham. -
Since last June the following have all moved for £7 Million or less. Norwich got Pukki on a free. Brentford got Maupay for £1.5 Million. Leeds got Bamford for £7 Million. Forest got Grabban for £6 Million. Brentford also signed Watkins for around £2 Million. I'd also be surprised if you couldn't get someone like Lucas Joao for £7 million or less. I'd also suggest that £7 Million would very much tempt Preston for Robinson or Birmingham for Adams. And even you couldn't get someone for £7 Million that still doesn't make Brereton worth it.

That's what people seem to forget even after the penalty we were still 2-1 up at home to an average Birmingham team with 12 minutes left to play and within 4 minutes it was all square. The simple fact is when we took Graham off we were far less likely to get the third goal to kill the game and more likely to sit back and given our defence that means more likely than not conceding. All good sides defend from the front and that is what Graham does for us when he is not on sides find it much easier. -
I honestly think that it might be best for Rovers and Brereton long term if he went out on loan into League 1 for the second half of the season to start some and try to get some goals and confidence. Of course it would be hugely embarrassing for Mowbray to have to loan out his £7 million man but if the second half of the season is going to be the same as the first half then he is only going to lose confidence by sitting on the bench and being reduced to cameo appearances here and there.

I've not said it was Brereton's fault yesterday (although I think he's rubbish but I am not blaming him for yesterday). All I say is look at the stats when Graham has been taken off we've dropped a number of points and haven't scored a goal. Off the top of my head Ipswich 2-1 up drew 2-2 Bristol City 2-1 down lost 4-1 Sheffield United 0-0 Lost 2-0 Swansea 1-0 up lost 3-1 Birmingham 2-0 up drew 2-2 That's 8 points dropped, 10 goals conceded and 0 goals scored. Do you think that is purely coincidence? -
He's a rich man's Chris Brown. Forest must be laughing like mad to get £7 million from us for him. A complete waste of money which if spent well would have had us in and around the play offs. He might be young but I don't see any attribute that makes me think he is going to be a top striker or winger at this level.

I'm amazed that you can't see as soon as Graham goes of we don't look like scoring when we clear the ball up the field there is no one to hold it up so it comes straight back at us and we are under the cosh defending which we are not very good at. Do you think that it is purely coincidence the number of points dropped when Graham has been take off? -
In the next two windows if we have aspirations to push for top six we need a right back, left back, centre back, two wingers, Reed on a permanent and a striker. Obviously we aren't going to be signing that many players this winter I think that the key areas this window to strengthen are a centre back (that's been a must for a long time), a winger, a striker and if the money is there Reed on a permanent. But these players need to be players to come in a have an immediate impact starting games unlike our summer signings who have spent the majority of the season warming the bench.

He did it pretty well at West Brom. That's the big problem with Smallwood and Evans they don't look to pass forward let alone run forward.
