No good getting into the position though if you don't score even Chris Brown got in the position occasionally. -

Give me Williams every day. If we are going to progress long term is he the answer, no. But I would have him over Bell every day I've seen Williams have plenty of good games but I've never been impressed by Bell every game he plays he just looks so lethargic. -

I was surprised how well we did defensively early on in the season but sides have worked us out now as 1 clean sheet in the last 10 games suggests. -

You only have to look at the effect taking Graham has on our results, we don't score and we are under the cosh more defensively as we don't have anyone to keep hold of the ball when we clear it so instead it comes straight back at us. Do you think it is purely coincidence the amount of points dropped when Graham has been taken off? As for you comments about Evans and Smallwood I have long said that they should not be playing in midfield together, Reed should be in there instead of being wasted out of position. As for Bell why is Mowbray even picking him has he not seen enough of him now to know that he is useless. -

Off the top of my head Ipswich 2-1 up drew 2-2 Bristol City 2-1 down lost 4-1 Sheffield United 0-0 Lost 2-0 Swansea 1-0 up lost 3-1 Birmingham 2-0 up drew 2-2 That's 8 points dropped, 10 goals conceded and 0 goals scored. Mowbray has to take the blame on two fronts, one taking Graham of when its clear how much we struggle without him. And two for not signing a suitable alternative to him when it was clear to everyone that we needed one in the summer. -

Is anyone surprised? I'm certainly not, once they got one back the equaliser was inevitable. We are too soft and too many players go missing when the going gets tough instead of rolling their sleeves up and fighting. The engine room of Smallwood and Evans is always the first thing to evaporate, if I was Reed I'd be looking to move to a club where I am played in my best and most effective position as he is wasted out wide. But the result has to be on Mowbray today why is he taking Graham off has he learnt nothing from performances when Graham has not been playing this season, we can not afford to take Graham of as he is our key player and despite Mowbray spending £7 Million on Brereton we don't have anyone capable of replacing Graham. After a promising start to the season the defence has as I feared been shown not to be up to it at this level which is not really a surprise as we struggled to keep clean sheets last season in League 1 and no new defenders have been added. Nyambe has been well off the pace since his injury, Lenihan looks well out of place at this level as a centre back and as for Bell I've seen statue's with more energy. A big, physical ball winning centre back to play alongside Mulgrew is a must in January but it has been what we have needed for 3 or 4 windows now. -

A central pairing of Smallwood and Evans won't win you enough games to get into the top 6 they are too similar both work hard and are decent defensively but on the ball they are to pedestrian rarely looking to run or pass forward usually play slows down and results in a sideways or backwards pass. Put Reed central and he will give you the work rate and defensive strengths of Evans and Smallwood but he will also give you some dynamism going forward playing some attacking passes, running with the ball and injecting some much need pace. Take the West Brom game for example I've never seen Smallwood or Evans put in an all-round display like Reed did there. Tony needs to make the decision of which one of Smallwood or Evans are going to be dropped in order to bring Reed in central, overwise it will cost him just like it did Bowyer with Williamson and Lowe. For me I would pick Evans alongside Reed. -
I wouldn't be signing Chapman he's hardly played any football in over a year he's had two serious injuries (which will effect his pace which is his key attribute) along with other little injuries. A few players I'd be looking at in the Chapman mode would be Hunter at Fleetwood, Dembele at Peterborough or Lowe at Portsmouth.

He's past it one decent game last week doesn't change that and I'd be very surprised if he played week in week out from now until the end of the season.

One big problem who do we have out wide to put in quality crosses?

Armstrong's record at this level prior to signing suggests he's not up to it and his performances this season for us suggest the same. I don't think he is strong enough or intelligent enough to be effective consistently at this level. His main attribute is his pace and down in league one that will frighten defences but in the Championship you need more to your game. -
What about when Graham comes off or in games when he doesn't start they don't play up front then either. In fact I don't think that Brereton has played up front since his debut at Bristol City.

A worrying reoccurrence is that today for the third game in a row we have conceded from 20+ yards out. Some will say that they are brilliant strikes that nothing could be done about and maybe that's fair enough if it happens once but this is 3 games in a row, you have to ask how players are constantly getting enough time and space to shot from that range consider we are playing with two holding midfielders. -

A decent point even though it feels like two dropped. The thing that this teams lacks the most is a tough winning mentality. Today not for the first time we have not put a game to bed when we have been in the ascendency and paid for it. Also you look at games we have lost to the likes of Swansea, Preston and Bristol City they scored one goal then put us to the sword and in within a 5-10 minute spell the game is over. We seem to lack the mentality to do that and I say mentality as I don't think it is ability. -

A good job Mulgrew chips in from centre back with some goals because our midfielders are awful when in sight of goal. -

I feel for Travis he was brought on at a key moment in the game last week did well and today he's not even on the bench. He desperately needs a loan move in January, I think Rovers let him down badly by not getting him one in the summer. -
A great fight from two warriors, what a twelfth round (how did Fury get up). I personally had Fury by 3 points up but with a few close rounds I could perhaps just about see how you could score it a draw if you were very generous to the Champion but 115-111 Wilder was terrible. Let's hope we get to see them do it all again it would be great to see it over here I have no doubt that it would sell Wembley out. The only loser from tonight's fight was the chicken Joshua.

Do they count for less?

The story of most games where we have played well this season Dack and Graham were fantastic and got us the three points but today only highlights even more our huge over reliance on them. If Graham's fit he must start every game until we find someone capable of filling in for him. The game was a lot closer going into the last 5 than it should have been again stupid lapses in concentration leading to a soft goal could have come back to bite us. We concede a hell of a lot goals considering how we line up, with 2 holding midfielders (I wish we'd get Reed in there he is wasted out wide). Downing did well today (he rarely let's us down) but I don't think he is the answer long term as a starter anyway, we really do need another centre back to start alongside Mulgrew. Conway did decently today showing the value of a natural wide man (let's hope one is added in January) although he did lack an end product at times when in some good positions. Another plus was Williams responding from two awful games with a solid display.
-
It certainly looks basic.
-
Why is he so afraid to drop Smallwood and play Reed centrally? He can't honestly think that Smallwood offers more in there than Reed?
-
What an awful line up. We've been struggling to score lately and that isn't going to improve with the same two central midfielders, a central midfielder wide right and a well past his best Conway on the other wing. A sad indictment of Tony's signings this summer that only Reed starts and that's out of position. I feel for Rothwell that he will have to watch Conway plodding up and down the wing rather get an opportunity that he deserves. Just like on Wednesday night it is a team set up not to lose rather than to win.

I was talking about Armstrong.
