Tony Mowbray Discussion
Mashed Potatoes replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Spot on. And worth reminding the poster who thinks we limped to promotion that it was actually a season with a record number of points and league wins. -

As we saw with Liverpool on Tuesday in football you can be miles better than your opponents but still not get the result if it is "one of those games". At halftime it looked like that might be the case for us so kudos to Tony Mowbray and the players for digging deep and not panicking. John Buckley looks a Premier League player for sure. -
v Hull City (a) - 19/1/22
Mashed Potatoes replied to Aqualung's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Whilst everybody will agree with you that the fans have been badly treated by the late announcement of the postponement how on earth are our club at fault ? Where is there a shred of evidence that we were informed of the situation at Hull ? -
If Prem clubs really are interested then the club will receive offers for them in the forthcoming transfer window. Has there been any press reports of Prem clubs looking at the 3 out of contract ?

I think players can only sign pre-contracts with clubs playing in other countries.

Mowbray's vision is being realised now. 5 clean sheets in a row - I think the first time since the promotion season in 1980. -
January Transfer window 2022

No we would not get compensation in 18 months time but there is no reason to sell before the end of the season whatever the offer. The rate of his improvement means that he is more likely to increase in value than reduce. -

According to Wikipedia both players are contracted to Brighton until June 2023. -

What on earth does this mean ? He will be on the books at £1.75m at the moment. -

That is not correct. The value of players is amortised over the length of their contracts so Brereton signed for £7M 3 years ago on a 4 year contract before options will now be in the books at £1.75m. I think it would be foolish in the extreme to sell our most valuable player just as we have a realistic shout at getting back to the Premier League. Any sale should be left to the close season. -

You don't seem to understand that those who thought we were best off sticking with Mowbray did so because we also want the best for Blackburn Rovers and have ambitions greater than a mid-lower championship finish. -

Seems bizarre to take a stand against divisions amongst fans by posting such a divisive statement. -

Certainly disproving the theory that we shouldn't be using loanees. -

It's not pedantic to point out that you are distorting the facts in your increasing desperation to justify your irrational hatred of the manager - any more than it was pedantic of me to point out to another poster who claimed that Mowbray had had almost 3/4 of our relegation season in charge that the correct position was that he had had less than 1/3. -

I missed the "near record 17 game losing run". When was that ? More generally, Mowbray took over as manager when we were in the relegation zone and we are now in a play off position. There is simply no way any reasonable person would conclude that he "is an extremely poor manager". -

If this is a reference to Mowbray in the 2016-17 season he had 15 of the 46 games which is less than a third ! -

The wisdom of the club in keeping Mowbray as manager is becoming more evident by the day with the players responding to the environment that he has created within the club. Opting for the faded has beens like Warnock, McCarthy, Hughton, Hughes would have been a big mistake. -

Yes, Jokanovic, along with the likes of Warnock, Hughton, McCarthy, Pearson, Cowley was a name being promoted as manager here. Subsequent events have shown that the club did very much the right thing in retaining the services of Tony Mowbray. -
Southgate has proven conclusively that he should be managing the national side.

Southgate's judgement borne out by what is happening on the pitch.

A very interesting analysis. The whoscored.com website also has Poveda and Buckley as our best 2 performers in the game, for those who want to compare the ratings. -

As I recall, Williams' policy of having "a raft of players in their 30's on ludicrous contracts" had us in top half of the Premier League year after year plus many excellent cup runs. We certainly did get out of that cycle when the idiots who now own us took over.
