  1. It's about the manager being allowed to manage - if the players had any achievements to their name perhaps some importance could be attributed to their opinion- but they have none and the manager does.
  2. Tomasson's record in the game, both as manager and player, commands respect - a great deal more than any of the players who may, or may not, be resisting his requirements. At any normal club, I suspect the chairman looks at the players and then the manager - and decides who commands the greater respect. I know where I stand. What about you ?
  3. Like the prayer says - grant me powers equal to my tasks not tasks equal to my powers.
  4. Clubs fail when cabals in the dressing room decide what happen. Manchester United backed Ferguson in sorting out what he inherited and got their reward.
  5. Let's be winners - I was. Champions League winner, record goalscorer for my country, playing top flight football across Europe, playing in 2 world cups, winning 2 titles as a manager - match that . No, go along with those whose collective achievements are like 1% of that. That way disaster lies.
  6. And still demanded the highest of standards - which is what winners do.
  7. Well, he won the Champions League in 2003 - never mind.
  8. Cabals in dressing rooms need to be rooted out - even clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United found that out.
  9. JDT has achieved more in the game than all the members of the dressing room added together so I think you've got it the wrong way round.
  10. Whoscored.com give Wharton a season's rating of 6.65 and Morton a rating of 6.64 so they rate them almost exactly the same.
  11. "Crisis" is an appropriate word for the situation facing Coventry City, not us.
  12. As I explained earlier my concern is how the bereaved families feel when they hear it.
  13. Can you recommend his successor ? (Who will have to be suited to international football, have the respect of their players, keep the squad united, be willing to accept the media scrutiny of their personal life, financial affairs, and family that inevitably follows their appointment)
  14. No doubt it was clever at the time but subsequent events..............
  15. No I don't find anything wrong in those other quotes(the "important" quote was from Jurgen Klopp). Why I am uneasy about the Shankly quote is that I always wonder what the bereaved families from football tragedies feel when it is repeated.
  16. The Liverpool connection is what makes me uneasy about it.
  17. What, two bad games and you're out after less than half a season ! Think you need to get a sense of perspective.
  18. Nothing contrarian about regarding the deaths of large numbers of people who have gone to watch a football match as a terrible tragedy - and then that remark made by a man who was manager of the club who played in both of the relevant matches seems to cheapen the loss of life ( as I believe Shankly himself would have acknowledged had he been alive).
  19. Shankly's quip should have been put to bed after what happened at Hillsborough and the Heysel.
  20. I think he would get a PL job, but not one of the big six clubs. He has been the most successful England manager since Ramsey and a massive improvement on some of those who went before him - so those who want him gone need to think very carefully about who would succeed him.
  21. Based on our position in the table relative to the other teams in the league the answer is that we will be in the play offs.
