  1. Just to play devils advocate. If we had a win rate of 31.9% this season we would be 4-6 points better off right now
  2. Just had a look on 11 v 11 and it adds a bit of confusion. It gives the date of the original game as 18 February and the replay as the 23rd rather than the 28th. It also lists the West Ham team but not the Rovers
  3. Midweek! Early KO (as no floodlights) to allow for extra time. I don’t remember which day it would be, but they did experiment with Thursdays at one time because it was half day closing for shops in Blackburn back then.
  4. I was at the replay! The firm I was apprenticed to, allowed us to attend the game if we made the hours up and several took the offer. Rovers bossed the game but the West Ham keeper (Gregory I think) stopped almost everything, they won with a breakaway in extra time
  5. That English referee was Welshman Clive Thomas, but your point stands
  6. Also ‘BIG’ clubs like Birmingham, Forest, Middlesbrough, Leicester or even Nobbers don’t make the top 20
  7. Happy birthday to her. I’ve a cousin in Cheshire who was 101 last June. Apart from failed eyesight he has all his facilities and can discuss Rovers from the 1930’s as if the games were last Saturday
  8. I’m looking forward to my 90th birthday but age doesn’t matter. The sentiments remain the same
  9. I’m somewhat older and when I first started going to Rovers, in 1946/47, there were only two clubs who had spent longer in the top division and that only by the odd season. We were considered a big club and received a fair amount of national coverage (for the time). Even as a second division club in the 50’s, for an ordinary fixture, we normally attracted gates of around 20,000+, with little away travel in those days. Needless to say but the cup final ticket debacle had a massive impact on goodwill towards the club, which lasted for at least 2 generations, until Jack Walker came along and many wounds were healed. Until this lot turned up. I go to one or two games a season now just so I can say I’ve never missed a season since WW2 (apart from Covid of course)
  10. And the car with Dyche’s private number plate being driven around Brockhall. Not to mention all the winning bets except when a result is forecast in advance
  11. Our budget wouldn’t buy the big toe of any of those
  12. The FA Cup certainly drew bigger crowds than league games back in the day. In the 1952 run to the semi final, I well remember nicking off school (and happily taking the inevitable punishment), for a 3rd round replay against Forest. It was before floodlights, so an early Wednesday afternoon kick off, and the gate was around 35,000. The 4th round attracted a home gate of about 45,000 against Hull. That was followed by home games against West Brom and Burnley with full houses of over 50,000
  13. With respect. I think you’re missing the point
  14. I don’t think it would! Because the decisions to deduct points would be made retrospectively by a panel
  15. If they deducted 1 point + any gained by cheating, the managers would stop it at the first training session
  16. And some bad ones. Any kit where the colours aren’t reversed, can’t be a good one
  17. The only redeeming feature about the anniversary shirt is; it wasn’t claret and blue.
  18. Or Pickering up front? It worked last time.
  19. He’s likely being advised to benefit his agent rather than himself
  20. Yeah some fans have a blind spot to talent
  21. How can you say that when you forecast we would win 3-0? Even though you knew then that Gudjohnsen wouldn’t be playing
  22. That’s an insult to corner shops
  23. How strange you should mention Douglas! Because I distinctly remember, around 1957, him being driven to requesting a transfer, as a result of the inane abuse he was receiving, from a very small section of the crowd. That for the greatest Rover I have seen, just because his form had temporarily dropped from his own impeccable standards. And that was before the advent of social media
  24. He’s from Great Harwood
