There's a very touching tribute to George Best on the front gate of the city hall. A small but densely covered area of the railings is adorned with shirts, scarves, flags etc of many clubs. All bear a message. One Rovers shirt proclaims 'No one will ever lace your boots.' A Celtic shirts reads: 'You weren't here for a long time but you were here for a good time. Cheers George.' 500,000 people are expected to line the route of Best's hearse. Many a luminary is expected. I just hope the traffic isn't too bad. I have stuff to do in town on Saturday morning...

It was a disgraceful display of cheating quite simply. Reyes is prone to such effiminate swipes, but Savage's reaction is indicative of an attitude as unsporting and conniving as anything present in Arsenal's foreign ranks.

It's almost impossible to score. Getting a clear sight of goal is very, very difficult and the crossing (and heading) leaves a lot to be desired. However it's still streets ahead of any of the flashy crap churned out by EA.

So let's review: -Shearer's first goal of the season and his first for 17 games. -Owen's first goal of the season and his first for his new club. -Newcastle's first win of the season. -Another game without a goal. Quite an active day for Rover's checklist of calamity then. As usual we lacked creativity and cutting edge. This was strange as we had both Bentley and Bellamy on the field but our woefully inept midfield continually by-passed Bentley and continually lumped it into Bellamy. These were thoroughly ridiculous tactics considering Bentley needs the ball to feet and Bellamy is neither a target man nor a lone striker. Of course all of the above disasters were going to happen, I'm just surprised it took so long. That doesn't make it okay though. It's no wonder the fans are departing this abomination in droves, the thought of paying to see so dire a spectacle fills me with dread and I don't even get over for the games. Sort it out Hughes. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

Terrible game. No wonder attendances are dropping. I feel asleep during the first half. Only after bringing on Bentley did we look like having any sort of effect. Gaining some sort of goal threat after 60 minutes is just not good enough, we just don't have the quality for 4-5-1 to work.

I imagine it would be hard to brand Dubya as 'Southern-hating' also, since he is from the South.

Oh dear. I hope not. You can't get much 'folksier' or 'down to earth' than Dubya.
