They look like a team. They have a way of playing that gets the ball from their end to your end successfully. They’re very well organised and stick to the plan.

Taken as a whole I can’t remember a run of four games as poor as this. We were dog shite, if the players can’t see that they’re heading for a fall.

All I know is if we pick the same players in the same formation as the last four games we’ll get the same sort of performance. Something has to change.

When we briefly upped the tempo for 10 minutes at the end of the 90 minutes we looked better. Then as soon as we go 2-1 up it was back to walking football again.

I feel sorry for Guehi, somebody ( Foden ? ) sold him short with an awful pass and he had to take one for the team. Now he misses the next game. I wasn’t impressed by the ref he was letting things go in the second half that he’d been booking players for in the first 10 minutes.

I couldn’t believe how we went right back into our shell immediately after going 2-1 up. Another goal would have killed them dead but we went back to defending our own penalty again. That won’t wash against better teams than Slovakia.

That’s the problem. He has no idea what his best line up is. Keep playing the same way that’s stunk out the last four games, that’s all he knows.

We’ve never really had a coherent way of playing for any length of time. We don’t look a well organised, well coached team. I watched Switzerland yesterday and they are exactly what we aren’t, yet we have better players in theory.

Our problem has been moving the ball quickly from defence into attack. We move the ball so slowly we allow our opponents to re-group most of the time. All this passing the ball along the back line is killing our attacking play. The one thing about Wharton is he moves the ball forward quickly.

I’ll have a bet now that Wharton will go further in the game than Gray.

I can’t see just swapping Mainoo for Gallagher being enough to get the show back on the road.
