  1. I’ve got a large framed photograph of the Beatles playing back in the early Cavern days. It’s on my stairs wall. Best is on the drums and he’s autographed the bass drum skin. I bought it years ago in a fancy modern art gallery in the Northern Quarter in Manchester. They specialised in posters and photos of bands. Regarding “ The Jamm “ - they were really good in that they had more than one singer so they sounded better than the real thing.
  2. Speaking of The Beatles, I used to go every years to that Beatles weekend in Liverpool on the August bank holiday weekend. It was brilliant, loads of live stages with bands playing from all over the world. Plus lots of old time Liverpool bands like The Undertakers and Karl Terry and the Cruisers playing in the pubs. Then they moved it all out to Sefton Park and I’ve never been since then. When it was still in the city centre it used to get hammered. Massive crowds of people from all over the place. I remember making my way slowly up Mathew Street and I noticed a bloke walking towards me with a minder in tow. It was Pete Best. Surrounded by hundreds of people who didn’t know who he was. He was to speak at some Beatles book signing. How different his life could have been ! Incidentally that was where I saw “ The Jamm “ , they were great. Another really good tribute band back then “ The Maximum Who “.
  3. Gallagher is hard working and he runs around a lot but he won’t trouble the better sides we’ll be facing. A bit like Phillips was when he played for England. Moving the ball from our back line into our opponents half without losing it is a key role in any team. None of Manoo, Gallagher etc can do it as well as Wharton. Even Rice, who really has to play, isn’t as good in that particular aspect of the game. They can all move it sideways, Wharton can move it forwards. He makes the ball do the work, rarely runs far with the ball so he’s rarely caught in possession. Plus, as I was coached, if you pass the ball out and the ball goes astray you are still between the ball and the goals. If you run it out and lose it you’re in trouble.
  4. It’s his decision making that makes him stand out. He knows where the ball is going next before he receives it.
  5. Never gave it away once, popped the ball off with either foot right away. That’s what a like about him, he gives it early.
  6. Crying out for him tonight, that Gallagher’s not fit to lace his boots.
  7. Bugger, who forgot to press “ Submit “ again ?
  8. He knows where the goals are. He seems to score his share to say he’s not a striker. Unless we sign some better players we can’t let those two go on loan in my opinion.
  9. He was a very good footballer as his subsequent career proved but he lacked the real pace to make it at top level as a striker. Some great finishes there though.
  10. Don’t read the letters page in today’s Sunday Ob. One correspondent is less than impressed - “ So Paul Weller looks good at 66, has been lucky in the hair department and wrote some decent songs 40 years ago “. It goes on ……. You write in and should put the record straight.
  11. The Action - Shadows And Reflections
  12. I don’t know why I’m asking this - Eustace gets knocked down by the usual No17 bus, who would you rather have to take over - Lampard or Keano ?
  13. Mickey And Sylvia - Love Is Strange
  14. Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band - Darkness At The Edge Of Town
  15. There’s only one Steve Kean. Lampard is like Bill Shankly compared to Keano.
  16. The Top-Notes - Twist And Shout. The original and worst version.
  17. A great striker of the ball with either foot. There’s thousands of hours of practice gone into that. Just shows what an advantage being two footed is.
  18. Gladys Knight And The Pips - If I Were Your Woman
  19. I remember the days when Summer passed by with just talk of the cricket and there were absolutely NO incoming transfers at all with just kids and guys at the end of their careers being released. Chaddy’s worst nightmare.
  20. Goals are what keep you afloat.
  21. The Rolling Stones - I’d Much Rather Be With The Boys
  22. He’s a luxury player, as you say he has a good 15 or 20 minutes and that’s it.
