  1. Yeah terrific, you forget about the goals he scored from distance.
  2. I’m talking about before Dalglish spent the millions, when we were still in Div 2. When he first arrived at the club and he was working mainly with what was already there with the addition of Wrighty and more importantly Cowans . Cowans didn’t cost millions but what a difference he made, just what we’re short of now. The difference in play was like night and day. It didn’t take him a season or two either, more like a month or two. We were going on a real journey then.
  3. And they still get as many signings wrong as they get right.
  4. The one that Sutton missed was something else. I’d have had sleepless nights for weeks if that had have cost us the league. My mum could have put that one in.
  5. You had to move it on that pitch. Short, slow passing would go nowhere.
  6. I remember when Kenny came in at first. OK he signed a few good players in the beginning but it didn’t take long for the style of football we were playing to improve massively. The passing speeded up 100% for a start.
  7. Imagine having Bull and Garner up front.
  8. I’m not expecting overnight success but I am expecting to see a better standard of football than what I’m seeing at the moment. Even some small green shoots of improvement would be nice.
  9. What’s the latest on Twine ? Rumours are he’s having “ problems “.
  10. Taking up your new job analysis - this new style demands some watchmakers and all we have are blacksmiths. How long do you think it’d take to train the blacksmiths to be watchmakers, and vice versa. Apologies to any old blacksmiths out there.
  11. Yeah, if Barker had have been a bit quicker he would have gone right to the top. He didn’t do too badly as it is.
  12. Lots of the time if you’re receiving the ball from the back four you’ve got your back to the opposition. Being able to turn away from trouble as you receive the ball is a skill you’re born with. Back in my youth Simon Barker was the one who was brilliant at it and he was very rarely caught in possession, always turned away from his marker and in to space.
  13. Along with Charlie George and George Armstrong. The latter was the sort of winger we don’t produce today. Clever, tricky and always looking for work.
  14. They’ll all bit part players. They can all run a bit, tackle a bit, pass it a bit, head it a bit but they don’t have what it takes to dominate the midfield.
  15. It was an awful penalty, Southgatesque, everything was wrong about the way he took it. He telegraphed where it was going, it was at a saveable height without a great deal of power. How not to take a penalty. I could have saved it. What’s this “ create value in the squad “ ? I thought the idea was to win games.
  16. Very good player in his day, only problem - his day wasn’t at Rovers.
  17. The only problem with that is they are big lads that don’t play like big lads. Give me David Speedie over any of them.
  18. Chocolate soldiers I’m afraid.
  19. You must be the only one thinking that on this board.
  20. If you’re only 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go it’s a pound to a penny that. 1) You’ll end up hanging on. 2) The opposition will get 1 decent chance in that 10 minutes. If they take that chance is another story. That’s any team, not just Burnley.
  21. I’m talking about knowing what your best team will be to play Rotherham on Saturday.
  22. There’s more to it than a “ style “ . Individual players need to be much better on the ball, better touch, more two footed, have a trick or two, able to get their head up etc. if you can’t do that at 22 or 23 and you’ve been at a pro club since you were 8 the next two months aren’t going to change that much. Different positions demand different skills sets. If Ayala was a brilliant ball player he’d be in the Premier League.
  23. Yeah we’re back where Mowbray left us. Nobody, including the manager, knows what our best team is. 10 blokes could post a team on here and every team could be different and all 10 could be wrong on Saturday.
  24. Yeah but when they got wet, which was often up here, they were bloody heavy then.
