  1. It wasn't just that. I wasn't massively impressed by his time here either but he was worse at Big Club by all accounts. Add to that he then spent a year treading water back at Southampton. He just wasn't progressing. I really couldn't see that for that sort of money we didn't have better options out there
  2. If there's anybody out there prepared to give us £2.7 million for Brererton we should take it.
  3. Support at Rovers has always been varied. I was looking at some stats the other day regarding the run up to the West Ham 8-2 away win. Briefly we'd- Drawn 2-2 away at Man Utd Drawn 1-1 home to Sheff Wed Won 4-2 away at Everton Won 3-0 home to Birmingham Won 3-1 away at West Brom Won 4-1 home to Arsenal ( Top of the league at that time ) Drawn 0-0 away at Ipswich Won 2-1 away at Liverpool. Won 2-0 home to Villa. I think we were top of Division 1 at this time, gate for the Villa game ? 17,095. My condolences on your very sad loss.
  4. I wonder if the lads who played in Mathews testimonial asked for a fee ? Dougie played and starred in that game against the cream of world football so he obviously didn't bear a grudge. Cheung Chi-Doy was actually from Hong Kong, he played 2 games scoring 1 goal for Blackpool in the 1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons.
  5. Alarm bells started ringing loud and clear when they started talking about a £5 million investment being enough to get us in the Champions League !
  6. If they have it's nothing to do with football.
  7. I didn't go to Bill's testimonial. Alf Ramsey and Bill were full back partners for England.
  8. That was ten years ago. Since then they've learnt nothing. That's pretty unbelievable really.
  9. If I were a winger playing up against Bell and I got the word from the bench to switch wings and try my luck against Nyambe I'd pretend I hadn't heard anything.
  10. He takes a good selfy though.
  11. Let's play him at centre half then because he's struggling up front.
  12. They could do with a break, somewhere warm.
  13. Who was it that was trying to tell me Gallagher was a good header of the ball when we signed him this summer ?
  14. I didn't exactly write him off although I had grave doubts about him as a footballer. I just thought he wasn't what we needed at that moment in time, especially when we were betting the ranch on him.
  15. I watched the " Highlights " video over and over. What was obvious from that video for those with eyes that see was he was never going to be more than a peripheral player in the immediate future. It told me there were more things he couldn't do than things he could do. We wanted a " Now " striker not a possible investment years down the line. Football is all about what happens in the next three months not the next three years.
  16. Some of us said exactly that at the time.
  17. The guy's been here 3 years and we need a new team ? What can I say ?
  18. Goal scorers are born not made. If you were watching the Shrewsbury v Liverpool game. Whalley was through on goal twice and never looked like scoring, Cummings comes on and with more or less two touches put two shots in the back of the net cool as you like.
  19. The dingles got rid of Vokes at the right time. His best days are behind him now. I thought he was a poor signing for Stoke.
  20. Yeah, even his mum wouldn't describe Evans as a goal grabber. He usually manages to hit the goalkeeper.
  21. I don't think item 3 is meant to be taken literally. What we are really saying is how often do they run beyond the strikers to have a pop at goal ? In fact how many goals do we score from central midfield in a season ? Most teams will at least half a dozen.
  22. Can he play like that 3 games out of 4 or was that just because of the occasion ? He's certainly worth scouting to find out.
