Travis needs to take a good look at himself. It was the rolling around like he was seriously injured that got a fellow pro sent off. Once you get a reputation in the game for being an actor it's hard to shake off. I looked at his sock right away, not a mark on it that I could see. The ref needed to take his time and have a look for himself before whipping out the red card. Like I said earlier, seriously injured players don't roll around like that, an experienced referee should know that. I can honestly say that most of the time that wouldn't have even been a free kick when I was playing. You got tackles like that all the time. The ref's used their common sense then. Two players going in hard - it's just a coming together - play on lads.

Hutch had a trick were he appeared to over run the ball then brought it through with his trailing leg. I'd have to see it in slow motion to see exactly how he did it. Every full back he played against would stop when he over ran the ball only to be left trailing when he accelerated past them with the ball ! I've never seen any other player do this trick. Even Sir Keith found him a handful. Green was a class act who's career was ended by a serious injury after his big money move to Newcastle.

That wouldn't be my reservation regarding Rathbone, he puts himself about enough. "It's the size of the fight in the dog " and all that, I'd be more concerned to see if he was up to it football wise. Smallwood looked the part in that division but not in this division.

Burnley's North East scout sent him down. The same scout that sent all the Geordies to Burnley back in the day. Apparently Robson wasn't very big as a lad so they gave him a trial and said no thanks. Of course there is the other side of the coin. The bigger lads that dominate youth football, until the smaller kids catch up with them physically.

I was just reading the pen picture of Mike England. Apparently the club sent him back to Wales as a youth because they thought he would never develop physically ! He ended up a 6' 3" and 13 stone colossus ! The Dingles sent Bryan Robson home because they thought he wouldn't be big enough.

The pen picture of Bill Eckersley says he only played one game in the top division, his debut game in our last match before relegation. Although he played most of his career in the second division he was still playing when we returned to the first division in the 1958-59 season.

Yes he is, very much so. But I remember Smallwood knocking one in from just outside the 6 yard box away at Rochdale before the manager decided he was better off playing more in our half.

There were plenty on here saying " It's only Luton, we'll batter them ". What they were forgetting is newly promoted teams still have that bounce about them, they have a full squad- no injuries , no suspensions and their confidence will be high. Maybe the players thought it was going to be easy also.

I don't think Rathbone is a good replacement for Evans. He's more of a Travis style player. He's a good bit younger and more mobile than Smallwood but I'm not sure he's better.

I'd forget about Cunningham, he'd be a gamble we don't need to take. He can't be the only half decent left back out there. Somebody was asking about Rathbone. I've seen him play a few times. He's a poor mans Travis. If we were selling Travis he might fit the bill as a replacement.

You don't want to be playing newly promoted teams so early in the season. Play them now when their confidence is rock bottom.

Apparently Phillips has a problem with Cameron. A Phillips " tackle " put him out of the game for three months last season !

I'd need to see more than one game before I hung my hat on him. I liked what I saw but anybody can look good once.

I'd say better than Walton, possibly equal with Raya.

He had two things you can't coach, pace and strength. That was obvious from early in his career. It was just a question of wether those assets could be built on.
