  1. Real Madrid were linked with Henley at one time according to the papers .
  2. Or the new Martin Britt. He was a Young England star striker when he came to Rovers. Came as a last throw of the dice to save us from relegation. Played a handful of games and didn't score once. Down we went.
  3. I thought the one he cracked with Sir Alf Ramsey was funny. Ramsey said to him " Give it all you've got in the the first period Rodney and I'll pull you off at half time " . Marsh replied " Bloody hell Alf, we only get oranges at City ! " I don't think he played much for England after that. We're talking in an era when there were a lot of match winners like him. Stan Bowles, Charlie George, Alan Hudson, Frank Worthington, Tony Currie just name a few. All immensely skilled attacking players, we don't breed them like that any more. Even our own Duncan McKenzie was special in that respect. That's why I like Dack, he plays with a smile on his face and looks like he wants to actually be out there.
  4. I wouldn't want us to bet the ranch on an unproven player. One failure and the chicken chokers would take the piggy bank back home.
  5. You need to look up old film of Rodney Marsh in his heyday. Very like Dack only a bit taller. I remember seeing him having Ronnie Clayton and Keith Newton chasing shadows. That didn't happen often.
  6. Gazza before his injury was a force of nature. He could do anything he wanted with the ball. Possibly the best attacking midfield player we've produced since the 1960's.
  7. Yep, the greatest Rover in my time. He made top class opponents look like pub players.
  8. Not now. We have Armstrong. A few years ago he'd have been a good Rhodes replacement. . He's had a decent career though.
  9. We can only dream Stuart.
  10. More like Raya Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Bell Conway, Travis, Rothwell, Palmer Dack Armstrong
  11. I said that when Fred Pickering left us for Everton.
  12. " Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it ".
  13. We're waiting for something to happen regarding the thread title.
  14. Could be the next Whittingham, I'd give him a miss.
  15. Grayson - failed. One of the worst right backs I've ever seen. Nearly as bad as Caddis. I remember watching him once when he had to clear the ball long down the line several times. A standard playing requirement for most full backs. He put about six out of six out of play. I used to live just over a wall and a fence from a good standard works team's football pitch. I'd be there lots of times on my own in the evening practising that particular skill with three or four balls. Over and over again.
  16. Yeah he was a top class centre half.
  17. I agree about Perez, he looked a good signing but just our luck, he didn't settle. That sending off against Chelsea was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen.
  18. I agree about the bench. It's a 17 man game these days.
  19. And then it all went to shite. How many did he win after that ? How may truly awful players did he sign ? Even Coyle signed Charlie Boy. It's quicker to list the success stories Hodgson had - one, Stephan Henchoz and he'd managed him with Switzerland. I remember watching the Italian team he managed on TV. He had four top internationals playing in midfield, Javier Zanetti, Paul Ince, Youri Djorkaeff and Aaron Winter and they were bloody awful to watch.
  20. What a talent he was when he first broke into the City team. Something must have gone badly wrong there.
  21. If you're looking for a Graham replacement, which we need badly, we need to be looking for a player who is comfortable playing with his back to goal. Gallagher isn't that player. He's like Armstrong in that he likes to run onto the ball. For a really big guy he's not a particularly physical player and he lacks the ability to win contested headers. He may be ok heading the ball in isolation but how good is he with a big stump of a centre half climbing all over him. Surely if we have some serious money there are players out there more suited to our needs. Is there nobody on the scouting team with a passport ? We've signed a quick lightweight striker in Armstrong, why do we need another one in Gallagher ?
  22. We aren't in a position to develop players, especially other clubs players. We need somebody who will come in and hit the ground running.
  23. He's not the answer Chaddy.
  24. Bloody hell, who designs these kits ? That Derby one is a shocker.
